Poor insurance coverage and dismal support

The booking process was straightforward and staff were friendly. Their cheaper rates became apparent after we accidentally damaged the campervan - make sure you read the fine print of the contract before you sign! No insurance packages cover above the windscreen! Not even premium insurance. Support was dismal and we were left to repair the damage ourselves, a very stressful process. Horrible support, poor communications - would never book again! Despite the token 5% discount off our next booking.

No show on collection day. Still no full refund.

Originally booked via a different company ‘bunk’ 6 months earlier.

Indie campers bought out bunk and our reservation changed hands.

Found their constant changing email info
& customer service a nightmare

Turns out that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Arrived to collect after paying in full.

No camper. No staff at depot. We had to book an emergency flight home straightaway.

Two months later and still no full refund. You will never ever get to speak to the same operative twice.

Never encountered a worse company.

I’d like to note that until I receive my full refund. & taxi fee reimbursement, that I will continue to post negatively across all social media platforms.

Dear Laura,

Thank you for bringing your experience to our attention, and please accept our sincere apologies for the immense stress, frustration, and disruption you experienced on your collection day.

Arriving at the depot to find no staff or vehicle, being forced to arrange emergency travel home, and facing delays in receiving your refund and expense reimbursement fall completely short of the service standards we aim to provide.

Our team is reviewing your reservation details and will reach out to you directly to address your full refund and reimbursement.

Best regards,

The Indie Campers Team

Ruined our Vacation in Norway

Ruined our Vacation in Norway

Our experience with Indie Campers was extremely disappointing from both a customer service and vehicle reliability perspective.

We rented a camper van for our trip in Norway Tromsø. Unfortunately, the vehicle suffered a major engine failure. Indie Campers provided us with a replacement van in Trondheim, but incredibly, this vehicle also experienced an engine failure. As a result, we were forced to end our trip early because there was no roadworthy replacement available.

The roadside assistance was one of the most frustrating parts of the experience. Response times were consistently very slow, and the support we received was not helpful. Over the course of our case, I had to communicate with at least six different customer service representatives. We repeatedly received contradictory information: first we were told that there would be no refund for the unused rental days and no compensation. Then we were told the case would be reviewed and that we would receive a refund. The next email stated the opposite again, only to be followed by another message confirming the refund. This constant back-and-forth was incredibly stressful and highly unprofessional.

On top of that, we incurred significant additional expenses for hotels and replacement flights because we had to abandon our trip. These costs have not been properly acknowledged or taken into consideration.

The condition of both vehicles was also unacceptable. The original van had a dead battery upon pickup, requiring us to return to the station immediately to have it replaced. The stove was also not working. The replacement van had a refrigerator that smelled extremely bad, and the floor was covered with small stones and dirt. I had to clean the interior thoroughly before we could even use it.

While I understand that mechanical failures can happen, experiencing engine failures in both the original and the replacement vehicle points to serious issues with vehicle maintenance and quality control. Combined with poorly prepared vehicles, slow roadside assistance, inconsistent communication, and an inefficient customer service process, this turned what should have been an unforgettable holiday into a very frustrating and disappointing experience. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I cannot recommend Indie Campers.

The vehicle provided by Indie Campers…

The vehicle provided by Indie Campers New Jersey was completely non-compliant, unsafe, and filthy. Below is the full list of material defects and service failures documented during the rental:
• Critical Safety Defect (Windshield Wipers): The windshield wipers were completely broken, with the rubber blade hanging off. The windshield washer fluid system was dry/broken, making driving under poor weather conditions extremely dangerous.
• Mechanical & Structural Failures: The vehicle suffered from severe braking vibrations over 50 mph, misaligned steering pulling dangerously to the right, and massive rainwater infiltrations flooding both the driver's cabin and the rear bed area. The rear window had been poorly patched with tape prior to delivery, proving negligence.
• Plumbing Failures (Internal Flooding): The internal fresh/waste water system had severe leaks, causing the living area of the camper to flood on multiple occasions.
• Defective Electrical System (Battery): The auxiliary living area battery was completely worn out; it was incapable of holding a charge to keep the refrigerator running for a single night.
• Inadequate Utility Supplies: The propane gas tank (LPG) was delivered almost empty, at only 20% capacity, forcing us to immediately look for a refill.
• Extremely Poor Hygiene: The vehicle was handed over in a filthy condition. We were forced to personally scrub and sanitize all the cabinets, drawers, shelves, and floors before we could unpack.
• Failure to Deliver Paid Amenities: most the pre-paid kit essentials, including bed sheets, linens, and towels, were completely missing from the vehicle
• Intentional Negligence and Fraudulent Customer Service Logistics
On the very day of pickup, we immediately noticed the defects and requested a vehicle replacement. The depot staff refused, claiming no other vehicles were available due to high season. Magicially, the very next day, they changed their version and told us we could get a replacement, but only if we drove the defective and dangerous vehicle 3 hours backward from Boston to New York. This is an unacceptable and hazardous request.
When we asked for a replacement vehicle at their Boston location instead, they stalled from Friday until Monday at 12:00 PM, completely ignoring the urgency. When they finally approved the Boston swap, we were already hours away, traveling toward our next pre-booked campsite. Indie Campers utterly failed their duty of care: they should have towed a safe, compliant replacement vehicle directly to our location. Instead, they forced my family to keep driving a hazardous camper that should have never been allowed to leave their warehouse in the first place

Ruined our family vacation

Ruined our family vacation, kept our money & total silence
Indie Campers cancelled our campervan booking at the last minute, completely ruining our vacation plans.
To make matters worse, they refunded only a small fraction of what we paid and are withholding the rest. Customer support has gone completely silent and ignores all deadlines.
Unacceptable business practice.
