Japan Rail Pass Now Reviews 

The trains are nice after you get on and the pass is a good deal economically. However customer service is not good and are very rude. We paid for 14 days and trains were canceled for 2 of those days. We received no reimbursement and they wouldn’t allow us to use the pass on the next train available for the airport when they finally resumed service because it had expired the day before when all the trains where canceled anyway.

Will recommend it to all Japanese travelers

The JR Pass and Shinkansens were absolutely first rate. Ease of use, simple seat booking process and the timeliness and comfort of the trains were excellent PLUS the wide variety of JR lines and associated regional lines, ferries etc (also comfortable and timely) made my significant travel itinerary around Japan an absolute pleasure and good value. I cannot recommend the JR Pass enough if you have a multi journey itinerary and if you can afford it, go for the Green Pass which adds a worthwhile level of comfort to boot.

The 'JR' rail pass is a must if you are in Japan travelling around different locations and want to use the Shinkansen 'bullet' train many times ad well as the local network JR lines but remember there are a lot of other private lines and subways where an IC card or similar will be required . The JR can also be used on local buses in some cases too but it is on the longer journeys it pays for itself. Remember to reserve seats for free in advance of travelling these journeys a day or more ahead if possible but they can be done just in advance of boarding the next available train but best to plan ahead and miss the queuing in the ticket office.

The JR Rail pass is brilliant. It is so convenient and easy to use. I couldn't imagine trying to travel around Japan without one.

Excellent value and very convenient for long distance travel but also good for local trips with a bit of planning. We have used the JR pass on local trains every day in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Nara and Kyoto.
