Not just hazlenuts
This family farm is on my way to/from work near Saint Paul, Oregon and I have seen the signs advertising peaches each summer for years. I decided to stop in and check out the prices/quality of their fruit.
I was pleasantly surprised at the relatively low cost for prepicked peaches compared to a U-pick farm (2.25/lb vs 3.00/lb at the U-pick place). Prices change between cash and card purchases. I purchased 20 pounds each of Veteran and SunCrest peaches for 90.00 cash that would have been 100.00 for a card purchase. The prices are marked on signs with clear delineation between cash and card. The staff were friendly and helped me carry my purchase back to my vehicle.
The store is open air and also offers hazlenuts as well as handicrafts. I did not look at these products at the time of my visit.
Two days later I processed the peaches for freezing, one peach in the bottom of each box was molded. I blame myself as the farm uses a layer of packing foam between the box and each layer of peaches to avoid bruising. These pieces of foam make it difficult for air to flow and prevent rapid growth of mold.
Smaller quantities of fruit were available, ranging from a few pounds up to 20 pound boxes.
