Great service and the counsellors recommend useful advice and support. Though the live chats end at the same time every day and I’d like it if there was an evening / night chat. This is because the Ko... See more

Really bad

I cannot believe Devon integrated care board have spend taxpayers money on this cheap + nasty service. The “counsellor” is not properly trained + didn’t know what to say about my issues I was bringing to the chat. It might have been they had no experience + were new but I don’t think that’s an excuse for how bad they were. It made me feel it wasn’t safe to open up more. I decided to go to my GP instead who said they have no knowledge of this service? I’ve been referred now to psychiatry by my doctor + got medication. I will stick with NHS from now.

Terrible service

Kooth is honestly not helpful for people who are in need of serious help. The counsellors speak in such manners that it makes you feel like you're talking to a bot or someone completely unqualified. The sessions hardly help, and you have to wait for literal HOURS in queue. Don't bother, use an alternative like childline.

This site seems like a brilliant idea

This site seems like a brilliant idea, as it provides access to counselling and moderated peer chats for young people who need advice. I was really happy to recommend it to my 11 year old. The only reason it’s a 3-star review is because after just one chat, she was told she could no longer make posts or chat to a counsellor because she told one of the moderators that she had shared her password with us (her parents)! She was worried she would forget it. If a child trusts their parent and wants to share that information, it shouldn’t mean they are banned from the site. Parents are still important confidants in a young child’s life and the two shouldn’t be mutually exclusive.

Thanks so much for your feedback. As a supportive parent, we can totally see how frustrating that might have felt, so we hope this explanation clears up any confusion. As a general rule, we encourage young people to sign up using details only they know in order for us to offer them a confidential and safe service. We also find this helps young people to speak freely to our team about what's on their mind. So while we would have encouraged your child to sign up with new details, we would have also encouraged them to come straight back so we could offer support on the new account where we would have been able to keep records in one place. We really value the role of supportive parents so while we do offer a confidential service (much like a face to face support service), we would also certainly encourage young people that visit our site to engage with the support they have around them. For lots of young people, that includes their parents. We hope this makes a bit more sense, and if you have other concerns or questions about the service please feel free to email us at parents@kooth.com where we’d be happy to chat.
