Vic Park vs Newmarket…
Last year I used Les Mills Vic Park and I’d highly recommend, great equipment and sufficient space, awesome class options, good coaches and friendly teams. My rating is based on my experience with Les Mills Newmarket. The class timing and options are avg, the parking isn’t ideal, the hairdryers etc are always out of order. I was on a flexible membership purely because of my work. The membership is a one weeks notice period and they made me give a full paid months notice. Would not rejoin Newmarket.
LM On Demand signature increased 100%…
LM On Demand signature increased 100% from 2024 to 2025, that is a shame. I even got a discount of 33% , still it is too much! First of all, Les Mills must understand that people who oft subscribe is ALSO paying GYM membership. On Demand was born after the pandemic, as an option for people to train at home. And so it is: a plan B for people training at home or travelling. Second, the app is very limited, the conection is poor, it runs very slowly, often the training which I select "is not available in my region" then I need to choose another one. The "search" option must be improved. Also there is no option like in many other training apps to see the training history, show statistics like number of trainings, hours, type of trainings, that would be a value added. I will wait until LM they review their price, currently is overestimated, even for being Les MiIlls. And listen! There are many other good options out there!

Les Mills is quite simply the best gym in Christchurch. Excellent facilities and classes with very friendly staff.

$91 a year to $45 a month !!!…
my membership went from $91 a year to $45 a month!!!! Cancelled immediately. I hate being ripped off! Grrr!
I have spent six months trying to…
I have spent six months trying to resolve my membership payout with Member Services, repeatedly having the same conversations at reception and over the phone. Despite being assured months ago that I had paid everything owed, I’ve now been told there’s still an outstanding balance. The in-person staff are excellent, but Member Services has been consistently frustrating. They lock you into auto-renewals without prior approval, take money from your account without consent, and no matter who you speak to, you get reassurances that ultimately lead nowhere. They overcharge, continue to request information you’ve already provided, and even after asking to cancel your membership, they keep coming back with the same requests. Or say they need in writing yet you have give them info on the phone. And the rowers are old at Taka and when asked to use the new ones upstairs, told that was a diff entity to the gym downstairs yet membership doesn't state that. So overall a terrible membership experience.
Thieves!
Same problem many below have already reported. Taking payments for annual subscription which did not sign up to and without consent or notification. Tried to cancel but not being acknowledged. Don't actually know how they are taking my money as there is no recurring payment set up on. Currently going through the bank to get the payments blocked.
Brilliant
I have been using it for 2 years now. I go the gym 3 times a week and use the app the rest of the time. The choice of classes is great. I do a bit of everything, from pump to dance, step, tone, Pilates, stretch etc. The instructors are very motivating and very clear with their instructions (giving options and explaining everything). I wish the instructions at my gym were like the les Mills instructors. Some of the earlier videos when the classes were with an audience, the camerawork was not great but it’s perfect nowadays.
I highly recommend les Mills
The accent of the trainers is frequently a pain!
Ok, Les Mills has only English in their app, thats fine with me. But I am not a native speaker, and, while I appreciate the whole inclusion and multicultural experience, I cannot understand 25% of the trainers. A strong Asian or Australian accent can lead to a European hating the training because a European ear cannot catch what the trainer is saying and only looking is not always possible. Why are you doing this, Les Mills?? Why can't you have trainers with clear understandable English in your videos?
Let themselves down
I signed up to the free trial, decided it wasn't for me. Cancelled on the last day of the free trial and they've already taken over £100 out my account for an annual subscription. Emailed their customer service team as it's still the end of my free trial but they've said no refunds despite requesting immediately and still within my trial period. I received no emails or notification the payment was being taken. A reputable company that believed in what it offers should not need to engage in shady behaviour like this.
Dreadful IT support unable to address design flaw
Basically, Les Mills can't be accessed on most if not all Samsung TVs, either app, browser, or casting. Their 'customer services' gave me the run around for weeks before admitting to this, all the while asking for ever more random info - it felt a lot like gaslighting. Pretty astonishing giving the business model.
Obsessed with body pump!
So far I’ve only done the body pump exercises, for a month. I love them! Amazing and intense workout (depending on how much weight you put on the barbell) but it’s still fun. Very happy overall, only reason for not going 5 star is that the work out equipment is so expensive and therefore using my own barbell and weight plates etc. And while doing so it’s difficult to navigate what they mean by light, medium and heavy weights as I don’t necessarily know how much weight to use. Other than that it is great so far!
Bunch of crooks
Similar to previous reviewer, only I cancelled my subscription & was still charged a full year & they’ve refused to refund me.
Frankly RUDE
I was charged for a membership of some kind from the company Les Mills. This was some kind of mistake perhaps but when I asked for a refund and they refused. It was never used. Their customer support was incredibly un-accommodating and frankly rude.
Beware of inactive subscriptions!
I had an account with them of which I wasn't aware was active, I haven't used for at least 9 months and they take a payment of 120£ for the year and refuse to refund even though I have cancelled my membership. I can't afford the payment at the moment as I didnt budget for it and I explained this to the sales rep but she refuses to refund me. Really unpleasant customer service experience and will never sign up again with Les Mills in the future on this basis.
Thieves
Echoing a number of reviews I’ve seen on here about their poor conduct.
Signed up for their (average at best) online subscription and the renewal was taken without notice, with no contact number to speak to anyone and just provided with a blanket response of ‘no’ to our request of a refund having requested cancellation within minutes of seeing them trying to take money from my account.
God forbid I were to forget my account log in as it feels like they’d continue stealing from me for the rest of my life.
If the product offering was better, it would be less of a bitter pill to swallow, but unfortunately it’s not.
Trash if you’re traveling…
Trash if you’re traveling and can only use wifi or on airplane mode. Not sure what the point of downloading workouts is for… if it DOESNT play in airplane mode or while using wifi (i.e on a cruise). This is almost 2024…. too much technology for you to not get this right. Do better #lesmills
Nothings Better
What can I say, been a fan ever since I started my first Bodypump, and now we have on demand. It’s top quality and just super motivating. They even emailed a huge discount voucher on their equipment. Super 👍
The quality of the workouts is 💯. Super effective and great music. Thank you Les Mills, for years of motivation, fun and a great program. Especially when going through a rough one, I knew I could always count on you!
Subscription trap and terrible customer service!
Great product, truly AWFUL customer service. Based on my experience, this is not a company that prioritises customer satisfaction and honestly that's as important - if not more - as the product in my opinion.
I signed up to a free trial but I received no email to confirm my signup (with expiry dates, how to cancel, etc.) Furthermore, I never received any reminders when upcoming payments were due. After one payment was taken in September, without any notice provided or explanation of what services I was paying for, I decided this was not for me. With a second, larger payment soon to follow I went online to cancel my trial.
After what I thought was a successful cancellation of my subscription, I noticed the second payment had been taken out this week! I contacted customer service, immediately explaining I had cancelled and that there was clearly some sort of technical glitch or misunderstanding.
I was promptly emailed back and told I would not be receiving a refund, seeing as they had no record of me cancelling my subscription in time and saying they could see an email was sent out when I joined and that I had read it. All the while acknowledging they understood that I had no intention of carrying on my subscription and wasn't wanting to remain subscribed (I think that's so bad considering a free trial is about deciding if it's the right subscription for you). Their operating model is clearly subscription trap and it's not ok!
The customer service rep had a rude, dismissive tone throughout and kept insinuating that I was lying. Not really what you hope for when you reach out for support on a technical issue.
Based on seeing many others on here reporting technical issues with the cancellation system and with being told they've received and read emails they haven't, you'd think Les Mills would be wanting to look into their technology and improve their processes, not blame their customers who reach out for support.
I truly believe it's these situations where companies either shine through excellent service or show their true greedy colours. In the case of Les Mills, I'm sad to report it was the latter in my experience.
Fortunately, new consumer protection legislation is underway in the UK, specifically targeted at greedy subscription companies that try and keep you trapped and paying. It honestly can't come soon enough.
