Moved into a new place with carpets that desperately needed cleaning. Tried multiple times to hire a rug doctor but found the process to be very un user friendly, so tried Library of Things instead.... See more

They charged mandatory membership fee during signing up, it was strange but I did it. Then, it asks me ID verification after my reservation, strangely it always fails. It is weird because I did similar verifications many times before. Eventually, I decided to cancel my order but guess what, they keep that mandatory membership fee to themselves. I became a member of a community without my ID confirmed. Unbelievable!
Sent me an email claiming a part that wasn't even included with the carpet cleaner was missing. I responded immediately to the email explaining the part was never there and then they fined me a ridiculous amount claiming I never responded? Awful company when something goes wrong, not worth the risk.

Great service. Really handy and simple. Borrowed a carpet cleaner from Wandsworth shopping centre. Cheap as chips for 24 hours. Easy to collect and drop back. They even provided the cleaning tablets. They also provided good instructions via a qr code. They've thought of everything type of vibe.
Had a slight (near) issue whereby the joker who rented the cleaner the day before me didn't drop it back as scheduled. Comms were proactive and alternative options were provided.
Will most definitely be using again. Bravo.
I hired a karaoke machine from the Hammersmith branch for a weekend away. We discovered this was broken on arrival and unable to be used. When returning the locker would not open and I was unable to return. There is also no help service available during certain opening hours so I was forced to leave with the equipment. I now have to go back again to return with the company offering nothing but blame. Do not trust this company as you will be left with an item that doesnt work and blamed for its fault.

I love The Library of Things. I borrowed a cordless drill and drilled 17 holes. I attached a key safe and put up loads of pictures.
I rented a carpet cleaner from the Dalston Library, and it couldn’t have been easier. This is such a good service!
Both the experience and concept are great! Reuse, reuse, reuse.
The latest and greatest thing I rented was a trolley for hauling all our festival gear. I've already got my eyes peeled for when slots open again for this summer!
I've also rented:
Carpet cleaner - because let's be honest, I'm only going to do that once a year (if even that!)
Hedge trimmer + extendable ladder - because I didn't want to hire someone, when I can do it myself
Window cleaner - for quick, indoor and outdoor windows
I would highly recommend the Library of Things. It’s so easy to sign up and rent items straight away. I borrowed a drill and studfinder for my first ever DIY project - putting up a set of shelves - and was so pleased with the results.
Easy and straightforward to borrow and return, instructions were clear. The item borrowed (drill) was in good condition, all the parts were there. The location of the library was very accessible. Best of all, I didn’t have to buy an item that I’m only going to use a handful of times in my life.
Brilliant idea, I recently borrowed the carpet cleaner and it did a great job! Far cheaper than getting a professional in to do it, and far more satisfying to DIY.
We just rent a carpet machine and last user left the dirty water inside.
Disgusting.
From Woolwich library.

Very poor service. Hired a pressure washer which was not up to the job. Upon returning the item, they were then quick to fine me for a part that I never had. It was presumably lost by a previous borrower, and not checked property by their technician. Other reviews have stated the same. They also don't respond to emails.

Great idea and very easy to use, just pop to your local library, enter the passcode for the locker containing your item and return it within the agreed time frame.
The power drill I borrowed included all the necessary parts I needed to do the job.
I'll definitely be using this service again in the future, it saves hundreds of pounds buying expensive equipment you only every end up using a couple of times a year.

I had a good experience with the LoT. Borrowed a steam cleaner and power washer — both worked as described.
(I had forgotten to return one of the small parts for the power washer and contacted them when I got home. Quick to reply and were understanding about returning it without a fine.)
Would reccomend for tools of infrequent use.

Fine idea but couldn't wait to fine me for a part that was missing when I collected the item. I didn't know it was missing until I returned it, but I know it wasn't there. They claim you are supposed to check everything is there when collecting it, but this doesn't include knowing all the parts that a appliance has. I've been made to pay for a part a previous user has lost. If they checked items more regularly, they would get this right

Hired a carpet cleaner but when I got it home found that the spray function didn’t work. Contacted the chat function and I was given option to collect from another location or return and get a credit/refund. All okay save I’d taken annual leave for two days to clean the carpets and traveled quite some distance on a bus to collect it (so another location wasn’t really convenient). Would be better if items were checked over fully between being lent out, to avoid things such as this. I likely won’t hire such an item again if it involves annual leave as is too much risk involved. Would have been better to be able to speak to someone vs just chat box.

Hired a wet/dry vacuum from a London location, was simple to pick up/return and cost was fine for a one day hire. Good to have the facility locally!

Dont bother. Hired a tiling machine on Friday. Paid someone to come do the tiling Saturday. Turns out it is blunt. No one to phone. Their website refused my password, could not reset it and their chat option was useless. It's Monday and they are still talking about how to resolve it. They have cost me money now bought new one. Waste of time

Very simple and easy! It was straight forward to hire any items from their locations. Carpet cleaner was really good! Definitely will use again.
