I give this company 0 stars!
I give this Company 1 star, I would prefer 0!
Me and my friend were traveling with lion air, when we were going from Lombok to Bali. We had bought our tickets six months ahead, and we only chose lion air because we could get 20 kg checked in luggage each.
When we showed up at the check in counter, with tickets which clearly said that we have 20 kg checked in luggage each, the people behind the counter said our luggage order wasn’t in their system.
We went to the lion air office in the airport, and they told us that our order wasn’t in their system, so we had to pay one more time for our luggage. I tried to show him that I already paid and he could see that on my tickets, but he was arrogant, rolled his eyes at me and wouldn’t listen to me. The other men behind the counter were staring, laughing and filming/taking pictures of us.
We called the company and they told us that we had bought our tickets with 20kg checked in luggage, but a few months after that they changed their procedures, so you wouldn’t get luggage in your order anymore. That shouldn’t affect us, because we paid for a product, with 20kg checked in luggage, and we would never have chosen Lion Air if there wasn’t luggage included in the price. The company never told us that our tickets didn’t include the free luggage anymore.
The whole time we had an airport staff member helping us, and he was talking our case, because suddenly they couldn’t speak English in the lion air office. The airport staff member was telling them that we already paid for our luggage and he was showing them the tickets where it clearly said that we had 20kg checked in luggage.
But after spending 1,5 hour on this and basically talking to a door in the lion air office we had to pay, we couldn’t miss this flight because we had connecting flights.
We paid 500.000 rupiah to get the luggage we already paid for with us!
Standard rock bottom flying experience with excessive last minute luggage fees but No processing fees and less on-site traps.
Indonesian owned Thai affiliate of Lion air operating as Thai Lion air gets a lot of angry passengers these days because of their updated luggage policies (But the management could not care less). Their last moment luggage fees are even worse than those of Air Asia. Apart from this, their booking site is fairly easy to navigate, some issues with foreign credit cards not being accepted if IP address is different from issuing card country but again not always. On a positive note less add on traps than air asia and no processing fees.
Flying experience is standard for the Ultra low cost market; nothing better or worse than the competition. Lots of remote stands at Bangkok airport instead of using more expensive aerobridge gates. Anyway Thai Lion air is a company that does care about you, their employees or even themselves.
DO NOT FLY WITH THAI LION AIR
DO NOT FLY WITH THAI LION AIR. Do not fly do not fly do not fly. They will try and suck any opportunity to charge extra including missed flights that are not your fault. As unorganised as they are DO NOT FLY WITH THEM.
Very small carry on luggage allowance but not enforced and potential huge baggage fees
The website is broken so will not let you check-in luggage online, then when you show up, there is the possibility of being charged a really crazy fee for your luggage. Some googling reveals the site has been broken in this way for a very long time.
The carry on luggage allowance is very small (30 x 25 x 40) so we packed very carefully to fit within that. Then when we showed up most other passengers had really huge bags and they were allowed to board just fine.
check-in luggage costs $22 per KG (not per piece)
I could not prebook check-in luggage online for my flight from Bali to Bangkok. I called them (the first number on their website did not work, temp. out of order !!! ).
They told me I either have to pay Rp 224.000 (22AU$) PER KG !!! at the airport at check-in; or I could prebook for just Rp 23000 (that is 10%) up to 6 hours before, but I can only do that at the airport. That is ridiculous !!! My luggage would cost more than my ticket if I would not go to the airport before !!! And I would have no idea about that if I would not have called them !!! I know countries where this would be ILLEGAL !!!
Another downside was, they don't take cards for food on the plane, only Thai Baht or some kind of dollar, the girl spoke so little English that I could not figure out which kind of Dollar.
The flight was good and cheap
The flight was good and cheap, but the booking experience was a nightmare.
WORST AIRLINE EVER
WORST AIRLINE EVER
UK PASSENGERS DON'T BOOK WITH THAI LION AIR GO WITH AIR ASIA .
See post below. We were charged £!45 for 15kg of luggage which we could not book on inadvance as the site keeps crashing as it cannot take uk credit cards, When you get to the airport having tried like 20 times to book your luggage on they tell you its £10 a kilo for every kilo beyond their pathetic 10kg allowance.
SO you have to get your flight so you pay it but when you complain later they just say oh its in our terms and conditions...
Just becasue something is written down in very small print somewhere does not make it fair or appropraite.
Shameful ripping off UK passendgers on a daily basis.
DO NOT FLY WITH THAI LION AIR!!!
DO NOT FLY WITH THAI LION AIR!!!
Thai Lion are utterly worthless. They are actually worse than that, they are actively malign, maintaining a non-functioning website designed to crash and incur extra costs to passengers. This cost my wife and me an extra £200 (on only a £60 Air fair!!) to fly with baggage that was still under 20kg each.
Their excess baggage policy / costs / processes are intentionally obscure with appalling English in their Terms and Conditions.
Their website crashed over 20 times (on 2 different smart phones and a desktop) whilst trying to add extra baggage (to the laughable 10kg allowance). 3 different payment cards were used, but all payments failed. The wording on the website indicates that if payment isn’t made online it can be done at the airport ‘at the normal rate’, with no mention of what this might be. It is over 10 times the online rate!!!
On arrival at the airport we were charged £200 for 20kg excess baggage, instead of the £15 advertised online.
There is apparently ‘a known issue’ with the website, but we were met with intentional and affected ignorance of anything approaching common sense, with a ‘computer won’t let me charge you less’ attitude, even from the most senior manager present (who walked off without explanation during our discussion).
We were left with no viable option but to pay this extortionate fee. At the payment counter I saw two other couples (1 British, 1 German) who had encountered the same ‘technical difficulties’ and were being forced to pay similarly trumped up charges to ‘upgrade’ their luggage beyond the ridiculous 10kg allowance.
This whole system is designed to catch out unwary travellers, and then hold them to ransom against their flight timing, forcing them to either cancel flights / jeopardise holiday or to just stump up the cash. In almost all instances people will be forced to pay, as the costs incurred by not travelling with the extra charges will be greater than simply paying the baggage fine. This is effectively a company-designed scam, DO NOT FLY WITH LION AIR
Oh, and I would put a photo of my receipt on here as proof, but they refused to issue me one!!!!
Good service better than I expected
I took a flight from Tokyo to Bangkok, and back.
I was well impressed with this company the reason why is mainly because I believed it to be an LCC company due mainly to the price. However it is kind of a middle company as you have to pay for a meal but you do get the basics such as baggage and they even gave us a snack.
The overall flight was good and it also had on board entertainment. Did not expect it. The staff were nice also and the aircraft was clean and tidy. It is true that recently they had an accident ( end of October). My flight went smoothly not an issue.
Honestly I was thinking while I filled…
Honestly I was thinking while I filled in the order form for the first time that this was one of the most flawless experiences I had had from a booking website. Everything seemed to work!
Except they wouldn't accept my UK debit card to pay with. My bank would allow me to authorise the payment, but as soon as I got back to the website, it would just say "payment failed" with no more detail. I tried other debit cards, including a visa card but I still couldn't get through. I even waited a whole day before trying again!
There's a whole thread on TripAdvisor about this issue.
I went along with one of the suggestions on one of the comments of that thread and booked the same tickets with tiket.com instead. It was about £6 more expensive but I'm just happy to have it booked.
