Welcome to LoudElephant, specialists in handmade clothing produced by small family run businesses in India, Nepal and Indonesia. We also love elephants and all things shiny so there is a bit of that too! Our clothing is crafted from handpicked fabrics sourced from local cloth markets across the globe. Giving something back to the elephants who have lent us their name is important to us so we donate a portion of every sale to support elephant conservation projects run by three wonderful charities - Elephant Family who work mostly with elephants in India and South East Asia, The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation working with elephants in Uganda and Zambia, and the Save Elephant Foundation based at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Unraveling woolpullover

I like these woolpullovers. They are handmade and each of them is special. No one is like the other.
But this time one of them began to loose its structure after two weeks. First it was at the end of one sleeve and later, after a good friend has repaired this, it began to unravel at the lower end.
First I thought to claim it, but that would have been too complicated for me.
Fortunatly I had my friend to help me.
But I'm not sure if I would order again.

Love these guys

Bought my first hoodie from Amazon, tried to buy a second, had some issues, so went to their website, delivery in a matter of days. They sell quality products that are perfect for me, hence buying a second weeks after the first. I can't praise these guys enough, love it all and will be buying more soon. Much love xxx

Bohemian retro chic ✌️❤️

Bought a lot of 'Loud Elephant' stuff over recent years. Baja Mexican hoodies .. Fleece lined tops .. etc.
Top gear (literally!)
The styles are great. The colours are great. The 'look' is great.
Eternally 'cool' and never out of style.
The perfect kit for a vintage stock hippie/punk alternative rocker like me.
So get yourself online and get yourself some 'Loud Elephant'. You won't regret it.
Stay in the groove, dudes! 😉

Prefer the older shirts

I've been buying shirts from Loud Elephant for years, but recently I have been disappointed. The older shirts I have are so much better than new ones. Particularly the quality of the cotton and the sewing. I also find it harder to spot an interesting print these days, whereas 6 or 7 years ago there were a lot of unusual ones.

Nice Enough Clothing But Beware the Returns 'Policy'

I've purchased 3 garments from the company this year. The first 2 arrived promptly, were well packaged, and of good quality. No problems there.

The third -a hooded cardigan- was found to have a small hole on the left chest on delivery. Possibly the location of an old price tag.

The website is vague on specifics for a Returns Policy. But it does say clearly the company will cover return costs for faulty products. So I spent time photographing the hole, writing a refund note, packing the item, and returning it.

A few days later, I received a refund for the cardigan. But not for the postal costs. At £3-95, it's not a huge sum of money however I didn't appreciate the ethics at play here. I then sent an email asking why the postal refund had not happened. 'Dan', who I presume is a senior person in the company, replied saying that a colleague who'd accepted the item, hadn't realised it was a return. This despite the clear covering note and photo saying it was. He then went on to suggest some of that was my fault because I hadn't made them aware a return was en route first.

A bizarre explanation, since he accepted there's nothing on the website to say I should have done so. He further mentioned that this has never happened before. Nor with me. Virtually all other online companies I buy from have a detailed returns policy on plain display.

I have provided proof of postage and he promises a refund, and some amendments to their website. All well and good, except for the time, effort, and chasing I've had to do to get Loud Elephant to deliver on their customer promise. Should never have come to this.

Edited 3/12/24: Now dropped the 2 star to a 1 star review on the basis that they haven't even covered the full return postage. Either an incompetent, or an untrustworthy retailer. Can't decide which. You shouldn't have to. Avoid.

Edited again on 4/12/24: There's a lot of noise in the seller's reply but very little substance. Have a look at their Returns info for yourself. One section says this:

'The buyer is responsible for return postage costs on any return unless they have received a faulty or incorrect item then we will cover the postage costs.'

And another this:

'The invoice would be the perfect place to write this information because it already contains all of your order details, but don't worry if you don’t have it, just include your name and order number on the note instead.'

My product was faulty. Even they're not disputing that. And I followed the second advice to the letter. Again, that's not disputed.

But their promise to revise Return instructions? Not delivered. I'm not the first to complain about this issue, and doubt I'll be the last.

Reply from LoudElephant

Hi Neil,
Firstly my apologies for the incomplete refund this was me misreading the receipt, it was not intentional. I have sent the remainder over.

Regarding the return, at no point did I say that my colleague didn't realise it was a return, if she hadn't realised this she wouldn't have refunded the order. What I said was that my colleague did not realise that the return shipping needed to be refunded. Generally when a buyer has an issue with an order they get in contact with us to explain the issue and to ask what we can do about rectifying the situation. In these cases we always provide them with a link to generate a Royal Mail returns label or QR code. When these arrive back to us there is therefore no need to cover the return shipping because we have already paid for it.

In your case the item was returned and you provided a note to say that the there was a fault so we refunded the order as we usually do. All I said in my previous email was that my colleague was unaware from your note or the package that the return shipping had not already been covered by us, you hadn't mentioned that you had covered the return shipping or told us how much it cost you for us to refund it, which we would have gladly done if we had known.

We are not asking all customers to get in contact first to receive a refund for a return, as shown by your situation, we refund orders that come back without prior explanation. However if the return shipping amount needs to be refunded for a faulty item because the buyer has covered this, then we do need to know this so that we can add this to the refund.

I don't think this is a bizarre explanation or unreasonable, all I am expecting is some communication from the buyer to explain what they need, such as letting us know that they covered the return shipping and expect it to be refunded, or providing the amount paid to ship the item back so that we can refund it to them. This could have been added to the note included in the package and the amount would have been added to the refund or sent back via PayPal.
My intention here is not to lay blame on anyone for the refund not being issued in full to you in this case, it is simply an explanation as to why in your case the return shipping was not refunded when the faulty item was refunded.

My apologies that you are unhappy with the service you received, it was never our intention to short change you. As soon as you emailed I offered to refund the amount you spent, this was, as I have already explained the first time we were aware that the return shipping needed to be added to your refund.

All the best,

Dan
