New Zealand experience appalling
My experience in New Zealand sounds very much like reviews elsewhere. The marketing was so impressive and I foolishly handed over the 50% deposit without question trusting they would deliver all they promised. Once they had my payment the service and communication dropped right off. It’s an out and out lie that they will keep you informed about your order every step of the way. Do not be fooled.
It has been over a year and the company has been liquidated. I contacted their supplier Maelstrom Design in Christchurch and fingers crossed they will complete the order in due course with the small percentage of our deposit and fabric they are holding. Maelstrom have been up-front and earnest so I hope this information may help others (although I still have no sofas yet).

Amazing Customer Service
Amazing Customer Service
We had a problem with our Maker&Son sofa (bought in 2021) and the guys from Hastings Sofa Company (the current owner of the M&S license in the UK) were extremely good at sorting it out.
A team of two (Mark and his co-worker) came over to our house and managed to fix the problem in less than one hour. They had no contractual obligation to do this, let alone for free. They were super professional and quickly found the cause of the issue.
Stellar job!!!

Song Sofa
Had our delivery today:) It did take many months to get here, a few ups & downs but they came through in the end and we are now the owners of a Large Beautiful Song Sofa and Armchair.
These are really comfy and spacious. The armchair is big enough to curl up in and the sofa… well, I absolutely love it, you just sink in but it’s still firm enough you can get out!!! These are great products, they seem well made & sturdy, the covers are removable & can be cleaned, you can also purchase replacement covers. Hopefully this will last many many years. We are extremely happy with what has been delivered - we are still waiting on the rug but I have no doubt it will follow as soon as it’s available.
Just an update 04/06/2024 - we still don’t have our rug!!! I actually think this is now taking the “P” The excuse was they didn’t have the colour we ordered so we waited… and waited, then changed the colour to maybe move it along as this one was available (apparently) GUESS WHAT!!! We’re still waiting and contact has just dropped, nothing, absolute silence - Fantastic customer service Maker & Son!!! 🤬 How do we get a refund!

Non-existent product and customer service
I'm reviewing because I've emailed many times for an update since the buy-out of the buy-out and have heard nothing. I won't give the whole sorry saga here but in short I ordered two sofas in February 2022. The first arrived a month or two late in June/July 2022 but I have not had an update I trust on sofa number two in the last 15 months. I've no idea whether it's production has begun or whether it's been rotting in a warehouse for the last year. Could the new owners of Maker & Son please please pay me the courtesy of acknowledging the existence of my order and tell me truthfully the status of the product.
UPDATE 30 AUG 2023 in response to the reply below:
I was contacted about 2 months ago but I have chased since via email a number of times and nobody has replied. I am not satisfied that all problems have been resolved as contact is non-existent yet again.

Resurrect Maker and Son !
We bought our Maker and Son sofa about 18 months ago and it arrived very late! However, when it did arrive we loved it and it was indeed better than we had thought it might be.
The second set of covers did not arrive but out if the blue Sophie telephoned me and explained that Maker and Son had been taken over and our sofa covers would arrive. And they did! In fact they arrived today and we are thrilled. It’s like another new sofa!
These guys have had their problems but really do deserve to be resurrected and given a second chance.
It’s taken a while but we are very happy customers.
Thank you Sophie and all the best. Maker and Son is worth saving, my sofa is fabulous.

Maker and Son - AVOID
In Melbourne, late last year I was asked to pay the balance of the furniture amounting to $17000 as it was ready for delivery. I did this not knowing the company had gone into liquidation - the fact they asked for this money while insolvent is probably illegal. They are now back trading in the UK owing their customers hundreds of thousands of dollars including leaving us $10k out of pocket. Do not go anywhere near Maker and Son.
Lost £10,000's worth of sofa, chair and footrest
The company has supposidly built a custom order Paprika sofa, armchair and footrest. My company ordered the goods for a lofty £10k. The good were waiting in their storage for delivery our new offices. This is until the company when into liquidation and apparently my sofa is no longer in existence. Not only has it 'disappeared' but it would have been a finished goods from an accounting perspective, so if it was sold or disposed of would be an illegal act. So right now, I've been told the couch is not there and I've been robbed for £10k. So not a great company to purchase anything from.

There is light at the end of the tunnel! 🇬🇧
There is light at the end of the tunnel. Reached out to Sophie at The Hastings Sofa company. What a breath of fresh air. Sophie has been able resolve my outstanding order from Maker & son. A couple of phone calls and an email or two and I’m really relieved to say I will be collecting my Song Bed head cover and cushion covers on Saturday. Thanks again to Sophie. What a star

You should not be deleting my genuine…
You should not be deleting my genuine reviews. Order placed in May 2022. Inv-0246 made by my interior designer, Kate Hume. Reading the above review from Noah Howard I cannot understand why anyone would buy from a middle man like Maker&Son with all the appalling reviews. There are several very high quality makers who will make exactly what you want for 40% of what Maker&Son are charging. All they do is outsource to Hastings!
There are over 110 highly negative views of this company and one positive which looks less than genuine. One needs to read the Guardian-the latest paper to focus on the new owners to see that this company deserves its reviews. Trustpilot should not be influenced by these people. Its job is to warn people not to buy products where reviews are overwhelmingly negative. So, please do not remove this review. This man Cole who left a review is a friend of the Maker&Son owners and is not genuine. It should be flagged
I had a terrible experience with this…
I had a terrible experience with this company. Firstly, it's was extremely delayed and the amount of emails I had to send to get replies is embarrassing. Then when I get it, there is feathers flying everywhere in my navy couch. They sent me covers. I no longer watch tv because the couch is so extremely uncomfortable. I sink into the back and each cushion weighs so much that it's impossible to get into a new position. This was a massive $22,000 mistake. I'm so upset. I never write reviews but I don't want anyone else to make the same mistake. All that bouncing around on Instagram is a joke, they probably never get back up!

DONT TAKE THE RISk!
DONT TAKE THE RISk!
I had the mobile showroom come to me in august last year, placed an order in September and paid nearly £6000 for two sofas.
At first communication was great with Laura via what’s app - she then disappeared from the face of the earth
After numerous calls finally someone called Laura got in touch telling me all was fine my order was well underway and my fabric choices had been ordered
Come the new year nothing again so called and called emailed and emailed
Then someone called Naomi contacted me and said sorry for delay few issues with manufacturing- I asked for my money back at this stage as reading reviews people were receiving their sofas and they were not the quality they had originally been shown
I was then and ONLY THEN told the company was purchased last year and I should email the administrators!! I have the administrators numerous times and it goes to answer machine emailed 13 different contacts and nothing!!
Not at any time was I told about the sale of this business until
Now
I just want my money back do not want their products in my home - the quality is nothing like it used to be AVOID!!
Oh and I am not a fake review I am 100% a very unhappy customer.

15 months waiting for 2 cushion covers
We purchased our dream Maker & Son sofa in 2021 before moving into a new house. As with many other customers, the sofa was very delayed in it's delivery. We were encouraged to take out the insurance they recommended to cover things like stains etc, which we did. A few months into having the sofa our child spilt their drink on it, staining two of the cushions. After the insurance people finally coming to inspect (which took over 3 months, the stain was engrained by then obviously and we were not meant to treat it), our claim was put in in January 2022. It's now been almost 15 months, and we still have not received the two replacement covers, rendering the set useless as it's missing two pieces.

Please let me know where my deposit has gone!
I am turning to trust pilot in desperation to reach out to Maker and Son. I paid a deposit back in Nov 22 and there is no communication as to what is happening with my order. I desperately want this sofa and hope that I can write a more positive review if it ever arrives. Please please get in touch with me as to what is happening with my £3565 deposit! I have a baby due in two weeks and this is unnecessary stress. To others reading I would stress not to order from this company unless they can prove they are actually are in operation and not just taking people’s money. Right now, this is what it seems to be.

Honest Review
INVOP-0097
To anyone thinking of ordering with Maker&Son Licenses, who is owned by Inc & co Ltd
Think Twice before you place an order.
To start we ordered two king size beds INVOP-0097 with Maker & Son in November 2022.
Waited patiently for the phone call advising ready for delivery but Non came. Time went on, emails to the company were not replied to, the phone line disconnected panic set in. I came onto Trustpilot and found why no one was responding to me regarding our £3,433.33 deposit. Maker & Son Ops had taken over Maker & Sons Ltd, middle of last year, prior to my order, on the 8th March 2023, Maker & Son Ops also have gone into Voluntarily liquidation. The reviews made it clear that there are many clients of Maker & Son Ops and Maker and son Ltd that are awaiting orders, as you can read for yourselves.
I decided to put a review on Trustpilot, less than 48 hrs later I received an email threatening me with legal action as my review was seen as harassment, by Maker & Son, that the charges against me would be in the sum of £15,000, so not only did I loose 3,433.33 they now want to charge me £15,000 for speaking the truth. The next morning another email, then within one hr and 15 another email all with court action.
Last week my review on Trustpilot was flagged by Maker & son saying I am a fake, I am a man, my name is not Justine but a Mr Parage and my order number doesn’t exist.
So it seems as they advised all on Trustpilot my order number 0097 doesn’t exist who did I pay 3,433.33 to ? Maker & Son sent me the bank details and funny enough confirmed safe receipt of my money in an email from a member of staff who was working there at the time, they then sent me my Invoice with deposit paid.
I have since sent my Invoice to Trustpilot so they can see I have not lied, they can probably also see I am not a male but female from my title Mrs, and I am not a fake reviewer.
If you asked me a question “would i ever recommend this company” The answer is NEVER
Keep your money in your pocket.

Maker&son are flagging my honest…
Maker&son are flagging my honest reviews. We ordered two sofas in January 22 and received one in March. They used our 50% deposit for payment on the delivered sofa. After little contact I visited the showroom and spoke to Laura who assured me that the second sofa was being manufactured. Months later in early November I was called by Owyn to say the sofa was ready. Having read TP reviews I asked for guarantees and assurances. All I received was an invoice which I didn't pay. We have had a lucky escape as we are not owed money and we do have one sofa. I have an email trail. Order and invoice numbers. Conversations with Owyn on WhatsApp. Proof of payment and one sofa in our home. We have been threatened with legal action by Inc&Co, who own M&S now, about my review.. I am a real customer and the legal threats were intimidating. Save your mental health and money...do not deal with this company!
In reply to the response from Maker &Son.
Had you maintained contact, had you been honest in the rare contact we had (all initiated by me) had you not served three cease and desist notices on me (for honest reviews on here that have since be reinstated) I might have been interested in what you wrote below. Unsurprisingly, I'm not!

AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.
Absolutely DO NOT BUY from this company. Deposit paid July 2022 - currently March 2023 and no response, no update, nothing as to when the sofas I ordered will be delivered. Company was liquidated and such a weird licensee model. Charging tens of thousands for sofas that cost them hundreds to make. Ridiculous. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.

Read MSOLD 1 Ltd, Re [2022] EWHC 3015 (Ch)
Initial dealings with the Australian team (now all redundant due to insolvency) were great.
We placed an order through Skye Jamieson and paid a 50% deposit by electronic funds transfer.
Updates in relation to our order slowed, and subsequently stopped entirely.
The next correspondence we received in relation to our order was a letter from PwC informing us of their appointment as joint and several liquidators of Maker&Son Australia Pty Ltd ACN 626 242 626 (a subsidiary of the UK entity MSOLD 1 Ltd (formerly Maker&Son Ltd), now in liquidation).
This was a surprise, to say the least, noting the Australian team had just months earlier affirmed their financial footing in Australia was strong, and that their manufacturing partner (Molmic) was making good progress.
I would implore anyone considering whether to do business with ‘Maker&Son’ to read the judgment of HHJ Worster in MSOLD 1 Ltd, Re [2022] EWHC 3015 (Ch) (18 November 2022).
His Honour’s judgment is freely and readily accessible from the BAILII.org database.
I am not usually one for online reviews. However, given the quantum of our deposit (which we will likely never see again), and noting that ‘Maker&Son’ (in whatever phoenixed form it now takes) continues to trade a business under the 'Maker&Son' name, I felt obliged to share my experience.
Would I do business with Maker&Son again? Not if it was the last company on earth.
EDIT 23/03/23: ‘Maker&Son’ have flagged my review (twice) for ‘harmful or illegal content’. I have responded to Trust Pilot with the particulars requested to verify my review, including a copy of my invoice. Our order was placed in joint names (me and my partner), as is visible on our invoice. I’ve also provided an email from Skye which attached that invoice. For good measure, I’ve also provided a copy of the ASIC Form 505 evidencing that the company I refer to above (ACN 626 242 626) is in fact in liquidation.
It is unclear to me what part of my review is considered a misrepresentation. I simply refer to a published judgment. If ‘Maker&Son’ dispute the facts as set out in that judgment, I wish them luck with their appeal.
EDIT 05/04/2023: ‘Maker&Son’ deleted its initial response to my review (accusing my review of being fake) shortly before it was marked as verified. ‘Maker&Son’ have just now replaced it with a new response. In the event they do this again, I’d like to preserve/highlight one exert in particular:
“There was some disruption to the production of our bespoke furniture for a small number of customers who ordered prior to Maker&Son being purchased in August 2022.”.
I placed my order on 6 September 2022.
Indeed, Olivia, I ‘have not received my order yet’, and I never will, because the ‘Maker&Son’ entity I ordered with is in liquidation.

Surprising
I am one of the lucky ones, my credit card company have been able to do a charge back after I waited for 7 months to receive the sofa I had paid for. I received limited contact from Maker and Son over this time.
In light of the secure charge that Barclays held over Maker and Son it is unclear how the companies assets such as the IP have been transferred to a new 'Maker and Son' entity.

Where are our long awaited cushions and covers?
Please stay away from this company. They are threatening legal action for true and accurate reviews and since my last review have not been in touch to reassure me or give me some sort of communication! We want to know when we can expect our new fabric and our replacement cushions — we need an answer! Instead of threatening legal action and using funds to pay lawyers, invest in production and communication and get back to me! We need a solution, this is absolute madness! STAY CLEAR, this is not a business you want to put your hard earned money into!
