Really bad

Really bad - foul of consumer protections. I recently had to raise a dispute due to an unauthorised transaction on my credit card. Extremely rude customer services representative (who sounded like she was outside in a childs playground, working from home?) who told me I could not prove it and what do I expect M&S to do?! Consumer protection clearly doesn't apply to M&S and it's my fault. Will be escalating.

Hire some Customer service agents

Took out a 0% purchase credit card. I have had no correspondence, once the card came I followed the instructions to set up internet banking, this wasn’t straight forward. Used the call number that appeared in the error message, the lady was nice enough and advised that I would not be able to activate the card until a week after I had applied, which was 2 days from this call, however she kindly offered to activate my card so I could at least use it.
4 days after the original phone call, I went to complete my registration, no avail, again I called the number, another woman answered, all started well. She asked the error message, she was stating that it’s because my mother’s maiden name wasn’t registered so I needed to do that. I explained that I had not been given the option to enter the maiden name, she reiterated that I would not be able to register without this, I again stated I had not been given the option, this conversation repeated a few more times before she stated well I guess I could do it for you, this was then done quite simply. Once complete she I was told to close my browsers and try again, I did so. Unfortunately the same error message kept appearing, she stated I needed to delete my browsing history, to which I responded I didn’t want to right now as I had important information, she remarked well it won’t work otherwise try another device, I responded stating I will delete the history manually, I couldn’t delete all browsing history as I had my boarding passes for my upcoming holiday saved. When I tried again it worked. However due to autofill being enable it manually filled in the maiden name as a strong password. This was most frustrating for me as I was unable to click and delete this information, she stated to turn off autofill, unfortunately despite doing this it had already filled the details in. I stated I would leave this until after my upcoming holiday, she went on to state again to use another device. I stated I did not have another device. I found this experience very distressing and this customer support was so rude, considering the M&S clientele I would have expected a little more compassion, I will now not be using this card as I have completely lost faith I have never experienced anything like this before and I wouldn’t wish anyone else,

I took out a credit card with them six…

I took out a credit card with them six months ago. With a limit of £2,000. They said that could not be reviewed until after six months with them. As a point of interest my daughter was given a £3850 limit, at a similar time, she only works two days a week as a nurse.

Today I applied again. After many questions the guy told me it could not be increased as I already had enough credit available to me! I had already told him 3 times I want this to replace my Tesco card, which has a £12,000 limit. He clearly did not understand this request. That's the problem with overseas call centres .
My gross income is £60,000PA, which with very small outgoings as a retired couple should mean we are a good risk. My credit score is 633!
Clearly we cannot even use this dam card to even pay for a holiday.
So as M&S don't want my business I will have to do more research to find something more suited to my needs, and to find a bank that may value my custom .

UP DATE 25th June 2024

I have now spoken to someone in the complaints dept.
they said the advice I have been given in the past was wrong . It's not 6 months since the card was taken out. It can only be consider once you have had six months statements.
Clearly there is a complete lack of training in the Bank.

Appalling!!

Appalling!!! Took out a loan, however 2 days later we decided to cancel the loan due to circumstances changing. We rang up to do so. Not straightforward what so ever despite the loan being still within the cooling off period. After speaking to numerous people we paid the full loan back as advised by the call handler. Due to the lack of faith from speaking to different advisors who gave different information, we expressed we wished to double check the loan had been cancelled on their end, which we were reassured it had.
However, the loan payment has now been taken out of our account today despite paying the full loan back a month ago. This has caused over draft fees and now means calls tomorrow to chase this up. Also concerned how this will impact our credit score. M&S- do better!!

I’d strongly advise looking elsewhere

I’d strongly advise looking elsewhere - really poor systems and little evidence of interest in improving them. I’ve had a credit card with them for years and have stuck with it even though I had to get another one for holidays in order to avoid the dreadful charges they load onto non-UK usage. This year their website has become increasingly inaccessible- I use a security code generator with my laptop but mainly get a ‘bad request’ error screen.

I’ve raised this with them but they insist it’s a browser issue which I don’t believe as it’s random within the same browser and usually after many attempts over several days I eventually get in. I’m very concerned by this because it makes it impossible to keep an eye on the transactions which means any fraudulent activity could go undetected for some time. Sadly M &S don’t share my concerns and seem very pleased with the way it’s all working.

I’ve now had enough and am closing the account. I’ll be mainly using my Halifax card in future: no additions for foreign transactions and when I had cause to query something I got through to a hugely helpful person very quickly.

Shame I had to give one star

Shame I had to give one star. Appaling service. Forgot log in details and tried to reset. Managed username but password reset is frustratingly not proven possible. Rang customer helpline and was told I can do it online; didn’t wait with me to check and I’m going around in circles. Asks me to generate security code from banking app but feature is just not accessible.

Customer advisers not helpful and Rude

I was trying to speak to adviser but she didn’t want to listen to me and saying I am working for this place for amount of years she was rude. Please Don’t use your credit card to buy travel money from part from M&S because for £500 they charge me £15 and than I was on holiday so I can’t pay my bill because my bank didn’t let me pay so I have got charged another £20 so please avoid M&S credit card to buy your currency.

stay away

I needed to change my bank details as I’d got a new bank account. The first time it had been confirmed it was done, however, it was still taken out of my old account. I contacted back and they said yep, we’ve done it now apologies. Nope the second month it still went out of my old account putting it overdrawn. Three attempts it took them before getting it sorted.

Then they emailed me saying I could have a loan. I went on their eligibility checker and it said I was eligible. Great, I’ll apply. It then came back saying it had to go to the under writers… strange. My credit is excellent on experian and I’ve never missed a payment. I chase and get told to wait for a letter. A week later a letter arrives saying they checked through my other account with them to ensure I’ve stuck to the terms and conditions of that account and for those reasons they’ve declined. I rang them to find out what this even means as I’ve always paid on time every time and over paid the minimum amount. I have never failed to pay and now my credit card is at £0. How can I be penalised on that? The guy on the phone could barely speak English I couldn’t understand him so after half an hour of going round in circles I am still as confused. I tried to use the chat in mobile app too but that kept telling me to wait for letter when I’ve already told them I’ve received the letter… they do not listen to anything you say.

This will now affect my credit score so thanks for that M&S!

Marks and spencer money is the worst…

Marks and spencer money is the worst fiance company that we have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.
We placed additional money into our credit card so that our balance was in credit.
We tried to transfer this additional money on our credit card to pay for item that we has purchased.
The transaction was refused.
I fully endorse following up on possible fraud.
That is why we phoned and spoke to the M&S money agents to verify the transaction.
We have now phoned M&S money 4 times and the issue is still not resolved.
On the last call to M&S money the assistant told us that our card was blocked due to the transaction.
The assistant then told us that there was no-one available to give a code to ensure the transaction would go through.
A very amateur Service.
Very Poor indeed.

Amazingly appalling

Amazingly appalling, who wrote this software, tried 3 times to make a payment that my card issuer approved on every occasion but M&S credit card blamed everyone but themselves that the transaction was not successful, wouldn't except my surname saying i had mis-spelt, you couldnt make this up, then you have to start all over again, other reviews dont lie, the app is abysmal and have you noticed M&S have not replied to one comment, either not bothered or just too embarrassed, we are paying off the balance and good bye to the worse online banking app ever, you should be ashamed.

The worst experience ever with a…

The worst experience ever with a finance company. I applied for a credit card. I heard nothing and chased it up and was told they were very busy but I would hear something soon. Two months later I got notification that my application had been approved. And then nothing. I never heard from them again. Total joke and waste of space.

Disgraceful

What an absolute joke. I had the card and account for less than one day. I closed the account. 2.5 hours trying to set online banking. 2 hours on the phone trying to deal with it. Transferred to incorrect departments. And I’ve not received any email with reference to the account closure. Of that I should cut the card. The usual banking things. Nothing at all. A complete diabolical laughing stock of banking system. My advise. Keep away.

Had a credit card with M&S for 2 years

Had a credit card with M&S for 2 years. Was given a paltry £1250 limit. However, over the 2 years I spent and always paid off balance in full. Yesterday, decided to ask for an increase to £2500. Was asked the rather invasive questions, considering it was only a small increase request. Informed agent that I was earning a healthy income, yet was turned down due to not meeting their criteria. What more does a bank want in a customer? I paid off every penny without fail each month.

Decided then and there to take my business elsewhere. Closed my account immediately.

I wish that UK based banks did not outsource to foreign contact centres. I could barely understand what the lady on the line was saying. The line quality was very poor, so I had to keep repeating myself. Avoid this company, they wouldn’t know the meaning of loyalty if it slapped them across as the face.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs, they do not insurance your transactions like all the other credit cards. Use another credit card service for better customer service and who will actually cover you.
