Online purchase was a scam: bank refused refund

I bought something online which turned out to be a scam. I contacted M&S bank to obtain a refund as is my right under the law. I was sent a form to complete and send back, which I did. Nothing happened so I called them again. They said they could do nothing as they had not received my form and the dispute was over 100 days old. Customer services staff were hard to understand (sounded Filipino or somewhere like that). This bank is terrible. Do not use it. Tell your friends.

SHOCKING, RUDE, PATRONISING, ARROGANT

Very similar to review a few down. Took a relatively modest credit limit 15 years ago. Without fail pay off the whole balance every month which they automatically take from my bank. Thought they would be falling over themselves to give me a modest increase in my credit limit. But no want a full financial analysis as if I am applying for a new card from scratch rather than a 15 year impeccable record with them.

When I pointed out some of the meaningless logic of some of the things they were parroting to me, did not listen or answer my reasonable question and were very rude and dismissive. Then when I complained the same person put the complaint on my record but told me it was immediately dismissed. Dreadful and distressing behaviour.

Disgusting customer service, which I note they unsurprisingly do not ask for any feedback on. I rarely give negative reviews, but this was more than deserved.

Useless

Useless. Called to ask where my card was asked all my security and to spell them then couldn't justify why it was needed and hung the phone. Closed my account before using it even once. Would not recommend them or use them at all.

Useless App

Yet AGAIN there useless app has locked me out. To get in, I need a code, from the app I can’t get into.

Which idiot designed this system? This is the THIRD time this has happened.

It took hours to fix last time.

Avoid using any marks and Spencer bank…

Avoid using any marks and Spencer bank products. Worst bank/credit card company I’ve know. Totally unsympathetic to any issues. Your just a number to them and all their interested in is money. They try to portray everything they do is for your benefit or to help you, biggest load of BS I’ve ever heard. Every time you call them your put through to a call centre abroad where you spend the whole time trying to actually understand what their saying rather than solving the issue you called about. When I tried to set up online banking with them over the phone, after an hour on the phone to them to sort this I gave up. Have cut up their credit card & when my car insurance runs out next month with them I most definitely won’t be renewing it with them, nor will I ever take any of their products out again

Terrible

Terrible. Tried to log on to account. Said they would send one time code. Didn’t arrive. Spoke to someone who said they would send me another one time code. Didn’t receive. They then ask security questions, which I duly responded to. Said they would have to speak to their supervisor. When they eventually came back it sounded like they were underwater could understand them. They then put phone down. All I wanted to do was order some foreign currency. Terrible customer service. They are quick to send out statements but dont respond when you want something.

What imbecile wrote this software ?

Attractive euro purchase rate so tried to purchase my holiday cash online. All was well until I had to enter my birth date. Straightforward you would think. NO !! Instead of allowing straightforward key entry instead it displayed a calendar showing current month and I was expected to click backwards by month the over 76 years to my birth. 915 clicks I calculated. Shove it. Went elsewhere.

Trying to increase card limit, forget it.

I think the 93% of 1 star reviews says it all. I have been trying to increase my credit card limit from a measly £3000 but to no avail. I talk to them till I am blue in the face but they are hemmed in by policies and procedures and are totally inflexible. They want P60s but being retired and over 80 I don’t keep them, they are ageist. It is just not worth the struggle. Other credit cards are available.

Appalling Treatment

I had an M&S credit card with £2,000 limit. Consistently paid on time until lately, when I made 2 payments a few days late due to a family bereavement. Their response? They halved my credit to £1000! I closed my account & found a more understanding card! What an appalling card provider! No customer care whatsoever!

Absolutely terrible Service

Absolutely terrible when you need to contact them. Web chat haven’t got a clue and don’t even give the number to call when you request it. Once found on google to my surprise outsourced call centre did not expect this from such a prestigious name.

Stay away from any M&S Credit Card (now updated)

(Update 21st may, still waiting for account to be closed?)
Stay away from any M&S Credit Card, customer service is a full journey to try to speak to in person, they just keep giving you answer from theyre Bot which sends you round and round in circles.
Finally had enough and decided to cancel the card, 2 WEEKS later and they still haven't completed the request.

Poor!

Simple request for a name change proved to be a nightmare.
Completed the required forms online then two days later received a text to call them.
Eventually got to speak to someone from an overseas call centre, to be transferred to 3 different departments then to be cut off.
Called back and was put on hold by the operator (who I could barely understand because her English was so poor) for 10 minutes, now I need to complete the same form as I’ve already completed.
‘This is no ordinary banking customer service, this is shockingly bad M&S customer services’
I expect better of this brand.

Nonsensical and innacurate info via live chat

I have tried using their 'live chat' two days running in connection with my credit card. You are initially connected to an AI bot called 'Mobi'. This is fair enough in this day and age. However, they then claim to connect you to a real person. It becomes increasingly evident that this is also AI. I received both nonsensical replies and inaccurate information (for which someone later apologised when I rang). I just want an answer to a couple of simple queries - this now seems an impossible ask. Not recommended.

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Terrible service. Avoid. Applied for a credit card and received an error message at the end, so assumed not completed properly. Applied again and was rejected which I thought odd given I have a good credit rating. Two weeks later received an email to say application accepted - I can only assume it was the first application that I thought hadn’t gone through (and hence why second application rejected). Had to sign the application online and needed a text code, which I never received. Tried to request code three times, but never received and then it cancelled the application! I called them and they said they would reset my telephone numbed and application needed to go back to underwriters. I had to wait another week before receiving the documents to sign again, and the exact same thing happened again! No text codes received. Called them and after having to be put on hold 3 times, I was informed there was a digit wrong in the number. So I have to wait again for number to be reset again, go to underwriters and to receive the documents to sign again. I asked for timescales but she did not know. So after about a month still no credit card and god knows what this is doing to my credit rating with referrals back and forth to underwriters. Most companies do this same day, so why M&S does this take so long. I am stuck now because I can’t go elsewhere as it will affect my credit rating. Customer services based in Asia, very friendly but sometimes difficult to understand. Appalling service from a usually good company. Financial ombudsman seriously need to investigate this shambolic set up.

Login on laptop is useless

Login on laptop is useless. I only wanted to check my direct debit amount. Just said it was set up with no other information available. It then locked me out of the account. Asked for a new access code. I put it in it then told me I was locked out and asked for a new code?? Tried 3 times, same each time. The Mobile app works, but has even less information about the account.

Appalling! Power of Attorney Support

My sister has been diagnosed with Alzheimers and I have Power of Attorney. I have successfully registered this with Lloyds Bank and have had good support. I have received the polar opposite from M&S. Three phone calls to a call centre with no dedicated menu for this particular issue, two phone numbers, one supposedly dedicated to POA issues, but is actually connected to the same number as normal banking, with no POA specialist. Having registered my POA with M&S, I received an abrupt letter telling me that her account is being closed, but I know that there is more than one account. I phone for the third time today to be told that the POA is not registered, despite my having a letter in front of me telling me it is. I finally discover that there is another account to which my sister is paying £25 per month, but I'm told that my POA does not cover this account. I have spent upawards of two hours on the phone to no end, transferred to a call which cut me off, starting a fourth call which told me they couldn't help me, I finally and unforgivably, lost my temper and started shouting down the phone. This "bank" is virtually uncontactactable, hiding behind off shore call centres with no face to face contacts or even email addresses. An absolute disgrace! Put your money somewhere safer, in your mattress or perhaps a hole under your shed. Yet another Company telling you "your call is important to us" but not really meaning it.

Absolutely dire

I've reviewed them before but I can honestly say M&S money is the worst banking experience ever. Today I was trying to pay the deposit for a holiday and my card was declined. I pay my credit card off in full every month so I knew my balance was zero. Luckily I had another card which I could use and so i phoned M&S to find out why my card was declined. Turns out, my balance is zero on the app but there is a posting delay in the background which meant I couldn't use the card as it would have been over my limit. I took this card out a year or so ago because I shop in M&S and thought it would be good. They must be using a quill pen and a ledger to do their accounts. The app is rubbish too. When trying to access your details it constantly tells you the information you have entered is incorrect, even although it isn't. Seriously M&S, stick to developing caterpillar cakes and give up the banking, you are useless. I'm going to have to bin this mob and move on, dreadful experience.
