My PARENTS passed away owning a Marriott Vacation Club timeshare. They apparently owed $2,000 in past due maintenance fees at the time of their deaths. I contacted Marriott on behalf of the estates while grieving the loss of my parents. The representative said he would handle the bill owed by my parents and there would be no issue (I have a letter from Marriott to my parents confirming and copies of my phone log to Marriott). Two months later a Sherriff showed up my personal residence as Marriott had filed a Foreclosure Lawsuit against me and my siblings Personally. Marriott nor the attorney they hired had the decency to contact any of us and let us know the outstanding bill was now owed by us personally. Marriott just sent their attorney after us and ruined our personal credit for something we didn't even know we owed on a timeshare purchased by our parents!! I would stay far away from Marriott as this was the most unfair and unethical situation I have ever experienced in my life. It should be illegal to ruin someone's credit for something the person didn't sign up for and then didn't even get the courtesy of a bill from Marriott! Stay clear....

It’s been so frustrating dealing with these folks. And looking at the other posts it is clear that I’m not alone in that. We were offered after several months of reaching out to Marriott an exit finally, and then when we tried to do something with it they said we weren’t eligible for it! Now Financial Services is basically telling us to default on it as our best way out?! None of this makes sense and none of it is fair. The best way to protect yourself from all this mess is to never get tangled up with these guys in the first place. Their words mean nothing and all you’ll get from them is a bill and a headache!

How do you choose zero stars? When we purchased our time share we were assured that booking a resort for the times you want was so simple. We have had it now for five years and we have yet to find a resort for the time we wants. We were flat out lied to. It’s deceptive and they should be sued. Their website is designed to make the process as terrible as possible. I will never recommend anyone to stay at these places or buy one of these. If I were Marriott I would divest myself of this side business because it ruins the brand.

It has proven continually difficult to secure a week even at my home resort despite the sales pitch of being so simple. The MVCI website consistently drops out when I try to book as an owner, yet if I want to pay as a visitor the site works fine.
I do not pay the premium to use interval international which further complicates dialogue as Marriott and Interval seem joined and messages get deflected, even with 7 days to reply. I stopped trying to exchange with II, as we bought a week, only for the ‘points’ system to be imposed meaning my week had little value when looking to exchange.
My overall experience with MVCI has been poor and one of regret, it deteriorates further with each and every occasion I try to make use of the week.
I wish I had never bought. I trusted in the brand but have caught a nasty cold as a result.

We have been trying to close our account for months now and has been a miserable experience. They never get back to us on anything we ask. I think they are intentionally trying to drag out this ordeal as much as possible. We just don’t want this timeshare or its outrageous maintenance fees any longer. The idea that a company would plainly refuse to acknowledge their customers is just beyond belief, but that is exactly what kind of service you can expect from them. It is just awful . It you are going to a timeshare presentation , just turn and run away as fast as you can.

Bought membership on our holiday in Bali were just pushed into purchasing membership looked like all our dreams of travelling would be coming true but when we reached home we decided to go over the contracts and policies and found out we only had 7 days to cancel the contract and since we were on holiday we couldn’t read through that…once we went over everything we came to conclusion that we couldn’t afford it at this stage of life as our priorities had changed we decided to call them back and explained our situation and if we could be refunded our deposit after a month we were notified that they won’t be refunding our deposit …so people thinking of buying please do not sign any contracts on the first day the sales team are very convincing but do not fall for it they tell you everything you need to hear and you need to decide there and then but if you don’t want to sign contract and walk away they will offer you more flexible terms and ways of paying but please think twice before choosing

Useless customer service - promised one thing and next person I speak to denies that conversation ever happened and said it’s not in their policy?!?!

I am writing this review to warn others about my devastating experience with Marriott Vacation Club. What was promised as a "valuable investment in lifelong vacations" turned into eight years of financial heartbreak and broken promises.
We were pressured into signing a 56-page contract in under 10 minutes - an absurd timeframe that prevented us from understanding what we were truly committing to. Had we been given proper time to review the terms, we would have walked away immediately.
The reality never matched their presentation. The confusing point system caused our paid-for vacation points to expire unused, essentially stealing our money. Despite paying approximately $19,000 over eight years, I could only manage to take ONE single trip. My repeated attempts to book Marco Island, Florida, were unsuccessful for months, even when booking a year in advance.
When my spouse developed Parkinson's disease, I contacted MVC about buying back our points. They refused, citing COVID. After my spouse passed away two years ago, I tried again only to be told Marriott no longer does buybacks. When I researched the resale market, I was devastated to discover similar timeshares selling for as little as $1 - our supposed "investment" was worthless.
This wasn't an investment - it was a financial burden filled with deception and omissions. Marriott Vacation Club preys on people's dreams of family vacations while delivering nothing but broken promises and financial loss. Don't make the same mistake I did. Stay far away from this company.

My partner and I purchased a Marriott Vacation Club timeshare in 2019 at Timber Lodge Resort, after being promised a complimentary stay. What followed was an aggressive, high-pressure sales presentation with multiple representatives, including Mary Woods, who pushed us to make an immediate decision using my Marriott credit card. The sales team promised easy booking flexibility for cruises, international destinations, and themed resorts, claimed renting would be simple and profitable, presented it as a "legacy investment" for our children, and promised an "easy-to-use" booking system. Critically, maintenance fees were either minimized or completely omitted from the discussion.
The reality after 6 years has been starkly different. Despite a $60,000+ investment, we've only secured 2 vacations totaling 6 nights. LET THAT SINK IN!!! Availability is consistently poor even during off-peak seasons, and the booking system/app is slow, unintuitive, and unreliable. We often pay out-of-pocket for Airbnb or hotels at equal or less cost than our annual maintenance fees. Our experiences have been equally disappointing - one Hawaii room reeked of marijuana while traveling with children, and a San Diego hotel was under construction, creating a noisy, uncomfortable stay.
As a same-sex couple with one partner over 60 at purchase, we feel we were specifically targeted. The sales process exploited our trust, and the ongoing maintenance fees have become a financial burden given our inability to effectively use the points system.
I warn others to beware of high-pressure sales tactics and ensure ALL fees are clearly disclosed upfront. The reality of ownership is vastly different from what's presented during sales presentations. This experience has been one of persistent frustration and unmet expectations. Marriott's reputation for quality doesn't extend to their vacation club operations.

I booked a trip to NYC for my birthday and when we arrived we could not check in until after 4:00 and when we went to our room we were greeted with construction workers all outside our window waving. The blinds had to be closed at all times and there was low lighting in the room. The noise was terrible all day into the night. I also booked this same trip during the holidays and cancelled it over the phone. I was told that the credit had been refunded to my AMEX. I called AMEX and only to find that they had not credited my $748.00 back in November. Now I am having to dispute and Marriott will not return my calls or answer their phone. Very disappointing and I would not trust this organization.

Title: Marriott Vacation Club is the Worst Decision I Ever Made – Stay Away!
I purchased Marriott Vacation Club points in Aruba back in 2019 after being promised amazing flexibility and value. The sales team told me I’d always be able to book Aruba (or other resorts) during peak season, and that my points would never lose value. Every single one of those promises turned out to be a lie.
Every year I try to book Aruba (or anywhere warm) for January–March, and there is NEVER availability. Yet at the same time, if I check Expedia, Trivago, or other booking sites, I can clearly see Marriott properties in Aruba available for cash customers. So, as an owner, I’m shut out while non-owners can book with no problem.
I’ve been put on waitlists a year in advance and nothing ever comes through. One year I didn’t want to lose my points, so I settled for Aspen. While beautiful, it was the off-season — nothing was open and it was a waste of my money.
When I asked Marriott about selling back my ownership, they told me it was worth ZERO dollars. ZERO! This is after being told at the sales pitch that the “price per point always goes up” and that “you’ll never lose money.” That is a complete lie.
The reality is that you’re stuck paying rising annual maintenance fees for something you can’t even use. If you try to resell, the resale value is almost nothing.
Bottom line: Do NOT buy into Marriott Vacation Club. It is a scam. You will waste your money, lose flexibility, and regret the purchase. Learn from my mistake and stay away.

Marriott continues to make changes to the program that decreases the value of the “investment”. They sell the program as having value, but once you are in, the only practical way out is to return your points or property to Marriott without compensation. They will profit again from reselling the points or property you returned to Marriott. Do not buy into this program.

Marriott Vacation Club, more or less, accused me of lying even though I sent them proof of an email that they sent me saying that I was guaranteed a refund on a promotion. I had two different, serious family incidents that called for for me not to be able to attend their marketing presentation. I have spent a tremendous amount of my day on hold, being passed around, and dismissed. They were able to pass me around to everyone except someone who could provide a solution. They denied having a telephone number for anyone in a corporate capacity! I was told about a month ago that I would be getting a refund. Yet today, they are trying to force me to come to a marketing presentation that I no longer have any interest in seeing.

When we went to a presentation at the resort, we directly asked the salesmen, “Is this a timeshare?” They lied to our face and said no. The whole thing was just one shameless lie after another. We were told the points dont expire… but they do. We never heard about maintenance fees… until we got the bill. We were promised all these great trips… but nothing is ever available to be booked.
We tried tried to talk to them directly about it but they don’t care. They are completely fine with trying to ruin our families ability to travel and it is just so heartbreaking. The only suggestion they had was to pay off our loan entirely or be foreclosed on.

My experience is not about a specific resort but the overall ownership. I am President's level, and even though you have a "dedicated" line for the President's Level, it is a joke. Whatever you see online to book is the same as what the customer service sees. DO NOT BUY any ownership. I have looked every day 13 months ahead, and there is no availability at all. I purchased to be in a President's Level for the reason of hoping to have a book at ease in a resort that I wanted, but I was wrong. NOT worth it all.

We had a very disappointing experience with Marriott, specifically with their Vacation Club. Last year, we stayed at a Marriott property on Kona Island (Kaua‘i), Hawaii, and were introduced to the Marriott Vacation Club. During the presentation, everything sounded impressive — we were shown how the program works and how it could benefit us as frequent travellers.
However, many critical costs, especially the annual maintenance fee, were never clearly disclosed to us. While these charges may have been buried in the fine print, they were never explained verbally during the presentation, which we found misleading.
I’ve been diligently paying the monthly instalments for the past year, but was recently shocked to receive an unexpected $1,500 (USD) bill for the annual maintenance fee. I have spent the past weeks trying to contact the company to discuss this issue, but have found them unwilling to acknowledge the lack of transparency. I have shared the email correspondence I had with their employee who enrolled us into the programme, however they seem to not acknowledge it all. They have made it clear that I am required to continue paying, regardless of my concerns.
I am currently requesting to cancel the contract and at least receive a partial refund, though the process has been extremely frustrating.
Based on my experience, I would strongly caution others: do not trust the promises made during the enrolment process and avoid signing up for the Marriott Vacation Club.

We called and There is no help, no empathy, no desire to remedy the situation. I WILL RESTATE - We were repeatedly presented with misleading and false enticing claims that led us to reluctantly purchase a minimal 1500-point plan. We were told that we could exchange our MVC points for Marriott Bonvoy points at a highly favorable rate, allowing us to stay at premium Marriott properties around the world while visiting our kids and grandkids. The presenter showed us examples of using the points including hotels in Paris, Hawaii, and other desirable locations, claiming such stays would cost only 400 points a week. We were also told that our points could be used for cruises, concerts, theme parks, and luxury resorts, further adding to the illusion of value. These representations were entirely false. Once we gained access to the reservation system, we discovered that the actual point requirements for properties were vastly higher, typically 3,000 to 6,000 points, making them unaffordable and impractical. (We only gain 1500 points a year.)
My wife and I were cautious at the time due to our issues with back and leg pain. We asked about cancelling the contract and the MVC presenter totally misrepresented the ability to back out of the agreement easily. Since joining, we are no longer able to travel due to pain. We are both undergoing several surgeries each annually. Our issues are not easily fixed by surgery. Even traveling by car is difficult and limited to a couple of hours and that is not likely to improve after surgery. I was placed on the Veterans Administration 100% totally and permanently disable list due to Service-connected disabilities since signing up for their program.
I want to explain the misrepresentations in the presentation we received. Before our issues became life-altering, I was making plans to take my wife to Hawaii. Of course I wanted to use my MVC points. However, I found out that the promises made during our required 90-minute presentation greatly over-promised on Marriott reality.
Starting with reserving a room (or availability). We learned that MVC prioritizes selling room inventory to third-party travel sites like Expedia, corporate conferencing/travel agencies, and Booking.com, leaving MVC members with little to no availability unless you plan a year out. This system prioritizes profit over the interests of owners and renders the program effectively unusable.
Not only can you NOT find a room, the rooms are many more points than advised during the presentation. I unfortunately decided to purchase and (wrongly) assumed that we could recoup our investment or sell the plan if it didn’t suit us. Something promised by the representative. That belief turned out to be totally false. Not only is the resale market virtually non-existent, but MVC has offered no path for cancellation or relief, short of paying off a $20,000 loan, that comes with no room reservations, for a product we cannot use.
• By using some simple math, I found that ownership is worthless. Start with just the initial investment for us and divide by the average cost of a room ($20k / $350 = 57) That means that we could stay at a hotel of our choice anywhere for almost 2 months. Compare that to Vacation Club properties - the price (points required) and lead time to make a reservation makes using MVC points worthless. Even if you double the room cost and we still get a month where and when we want to stay.
• Now, let’s compare that to our Club points capability. With ownership, we receive 1500 points a year. I just searched Hawaii and there is no availability until a year later, and I saw the cost is about 5000 points for 7 days. Above my 4500 points accrued after my $20k “investment.” NOT counting the $1500/yr maintenance fees, and paying Marriott $3120/yr interest on my Marriott loan (Marriott gets double dipping), it is painful trying to navigate the MVC app.
• I searched Booking.COM and found the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa available on June 18, 2025 (this year not next year for $3900 for 18-25 June 2025 (or $557/night), WITH free cancellation. Compare my $20k investment + 2 years maintenance fees and interest = $24,000 and Hawaii at $557 a night = 43 nights we could have stayed on the amount of ‘good-deal MVC ownership’ costs alone. This is gross misrepresentation making this a SCAM since you pay thousands for nothing.
I want to simply walk away from their program and get my $24,000 back (and growing). I cannot use the program anyway and it is monetarily killing this 100% Service-Connected disabled retiree, with fixed income, that was hoping this program would help him and his wife during travel - and it will NOT.

Thankyou so much for the reviews. I owe it to you. I got a first call from mvc, i was excited that i am being offered such a great hotel at such low price. But i was sceptical about why i am being offered at such low prices. I mean whyy whyy whyy.... I searched for your reviews guys and here I am. Such absurd conditions like age criteria and income criterion and some stressful presentation. Thankyou once again for saving me by providing your experience. Thanks thanks thanks....

These lying scumbags are the lowest form of life on the planet. You will be beyond sorry to fall for their total lack of integrity and complete absence of familiarity with that thing called “hospitality”. Once they get your money, their whole attitude changes from accommodating to “you’re on your own, buddy”. Avoid like the plague.

Buyer beware! Marriott will take your money and abandon you! During the sales pitch, they gave us vacation info on the 2500 point plan, even though they knew we only had 1500 points to oversell us on what our points could do. They will sell you on being able to use your points for all these different trips, but in the end, our 1500 points could only manage to cover a single night in Savannah, Georgia. And that is IF you can find something to book. Most resorts are booked up months or even over a year in advance. We are promised there was an exit program in case we needed it so we didn’t have to worry about that, but in 2024 after our son was hospitalized, they switched it up on us and said that the exit option was only available AFTER paying off the mortgage in full! The maintenance fees ended up being hundreds of dollars more than what we were told to expect, and for all we pay, we haven’t gotten close to what it was worth. So we wanted out but after extensive talks with their service dept, they say they won’t take it back, but they are happy to foreclose on us if we miss the payments. Is that their only solution? Is foreclosure really the only solution for taking back our points? Probably not, but its the only one that Marriott will tell us about. Don’t trust these people. Marriott is heartless.
