During the Covid-19 pandemic we've introduced a number of changes to our business. We've endeavoured to keep most of our branches open, but some have had to close, apologies if this has caused an inconvenience. In every open branch we have reduced staff numbers to ensure social distancing is adhered too, we have also closed public areas like waiting rooms. We're encouraging customers to book and pay online to reduce the amount of personal contact required in-branch. We are also prioritising emergency and essential service vehicles. With this in place turn around times might be affected, we might be slower to answer phone calls or deal with drive ins. These are difficult times for all of us and the team at McConechys are trying to hard to provide a service, we appreciate your understanding and patients when required. Booked my husband’s car in for a new tyre, through black circle. Waited 1 week and postponed the day before for another week. Would NOT recommend. Black circle were great and gave a refund.

2 front tyres changes at Dundee branch and both diamond cut alloys damaged pictures before and after taking at site from staff to prove it wasn't them but wheels were so dirty after pickup and pictures taking to hide the damage that you have no leg to stand on with a claim

Put my car in for MOT and was quoted…

Put my car in for MOT at McConnechys Paisley and was quoted £818 for repairs and MOT. Felt this was too expensive so decided to take elsewhere. The mechanic at the other garage checked my car and said that nearly all the work that McConnechys had quoted for was unnecessary. My bill including MOT was £300. Do not take your car to McConnechys Paisley unless you want to get ripped off. There is no way any reputable business would quote so much for work that was unnecessary. Clearly a money making scam to rip customers off

Brilliant service, really quick and helpful. Booked a slot, ordered the tyres, they were changed in 20 minutes. Would recommend this branch to anyone in the area.

A nightmare to just fit a tyre

A nightmare to just fit a tyre

Very dissapointed in the service and how they treat clients
went to Mcconechys Oban 2 weeks ago to change a tyre and they got me one in 2 days, fitted in the 3rd day and when I got home I realised is a wrong tyre bigger than the rest. I called them and went back to put on the spare wheel again and left the other wheel with them waiting for the new tyre. Days have passed and there was no news. I called them and they said that they will check and get back to me in 2 minutes but nothing.
a week passed and I went there today and was told to wait another week and was blamed for the mistake they made as well.
I don't understand how is it possible to put the wrong tyre in one car since initially I said what tyre I needed, on the tyre they took of it is written the size and the car I have does not support that size of tyre.
My impression was that they wanted to punish me for their mistake and put me on the road or make me wait forever for a bloody tyre.
I asked for my wheel back and again was told to come later as they did not have anyone available although I was looking at 2 guys inside the garage just talking between themselves. it only takes one minute for them to take the tyre off. was told to come in 2 hours or if they call me earlier.
as well they said it takes a week to refund the money trough their system

an ugly and stressful experience altogether. do not recomend

McConechys Fort William

Thank you so much to the guys in the Fort William Branch who fixed our van's brakes while we were on holiday. They were so efficient, and bent over backwards to fit the work around the activities we'd booked or planned while on holiday. Thank you for being so accommodating, making us laugh and taking the stress out of the whole experience.

Had a flat tyre on my campervan. AA transported me to McConechys Halfords Autocentre at Thurso. Despite them being extremely busy the tyre was repaired efficiently and at a reasonable price. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Made a bad situation into a happy experience.

Reliable and excellent customer service

Reliable and excellent customer service.
Berwick upon Tweed branch ordered in and fitted 4 new
4x4 tyres to my vehicle today. Fitted promptly at my allocated appointment, by a very pleasant technician (Daniel).
Very happy with the service provided at a very reasonable price (15% cheaper than anywhere else I tried to find online).

Disgusting service I booked a repair in Dundee that required me to get a recovery vehicle to get to the shop. 3 days after booking got vehicle recovered to autocenter only for the so called mechanics there to send the car back saying it was booked by accident!!! So now im out of pocket and the ignorant guy who hung up on me and refused to give me phone details of head office( yes you Andrew you waste of air) no wonder people take business elsewhere.how can a full quote be an accident.

McConaghys Thurso staff are heroes

Touring the North Coast 500, after tyre trouble in a remote town, the incredible staff at McConechys came to our rescue. Kyle Arrowsmith and Daniel McDonald (Thurso branch) saved our family’s holiday. My daughters (ages 6 & 8) call Kyle and Daniel our holiday heroes. Truly exceptional service from these guys to turn a nightmare situation into a delightful experience. Thank you!

AVOID Halfords McConechys Autocentre in Lockerbie

I cannot express enough how disgusted I am with the experience I had with Halfords McConechys Autocentre in Lockerbie. I took my car in to fix a flat tyre. The guy told me that he couldn't find a puncture and would need a new tyre. I was too naive to question this and had my autistic son in the car but have since read this is a common scam. Charged me over £70 for this new tyre and stated "your car is falling apart". He proceeded to offer to look over the car and give me a price for everything that needed fixed, as they offer a pay-it-up service. He came back with an almost £900 set of repairs and a full service. I want to point out that the guy said absolutely nothing about any issues with the cooling system. I accepted this, scared that if I took the car elsewhere, it would still need £900 worth of repairs but other small garages would not have a pay-it-up option. I have since read that this has happened to other people who then took their cars to other garages who fixed all repairs for significantly less. I booked my car in for these repairs, they carried them out and handed me a break-down of the work in an invoice. I drove my car from the Halfords in Lockerbie to the Tesco, 0.3 miles away. I went food shopping, which took about 1.5 hours. When I returned to the car, there was a substantial puddle underneath. I drove it the 0.3 miles back to Halfords and pointed this out. They confirmed that I had a leak in my cooling system and he would take a look at it. About 2 hours later I got a phone call stating that my cooling system was "cracked" and that I would need a replacement costing almost £300. Oh but don't worry, they would just add this on top of the other almost £900 bill in the payment plan that I already had set up. They said that they highly advise against driving as it was dangerous and I had my children with me, so my only option was to have them fix this issue and foot the extra almost £300 bill. Not only was this coolant system never an issue with my car, but he also charged me almost £200 for a "complete service" which showed absolutely nothing wrong with the cooling system, or surely he would have flagged this up sooner. Now, within this "complete service" - according to Halford's OWN WEBSITE - they check the cooling system. HOWEVER when I exclaimed that I should not have to pay for damage that was CLEARLY done within the garage, the assistant manager then said they were "nowhere near the cooling system". So not only are they suggesting that this damage was done within a 0.3 mile drive to Tesco, by their own admission, this would then mean that the "full service" they charged me for was not actually carried out correctly. On top of all of this dodgy experience, I was due to go on holiday with my kids the next day so I asked for a time to collect the car and was told 11am. I was due to leave at 9am, so had no choice but to push my leaving time by 2 hours. I expressed this to the mechanic/liar and he then confirmed that yes, the car would be ready for 11am. I phoned at 10.30am the next day as I had not heard from the garage. An uninterested response was "aw aye the parts have JUST ARRIVED". I again expressed that I had places to be and he gave no sh*ts, just said he would phone when it was ready. I had 2 very excited little kids waiting, so I went into Lockerbie to wait. I sat in the Tesco car park as I was legitimately wracked with anxiety due to the whole ordeal. I phoned again to be told that the part was in, but not only do they "huv tae bleed it" but they didn't even have the coolant needed to fill it. Interesting, seeing as they knew the day before that they needed this coolant. I admittedly lost it at this point, stating that not only were they incompetently handling this, but also having the cheek to charge me for it as clearly they had damaged it in the first place. He was offended, because OBVIOUSLY the very very common stereotype of a dodgy, scamming, lying mechanic is just fabricated from nowhere, right? He got the regional manager to phone me. She was polite, but was clearly angry that I had the gall to question the integrity of her staff and in turn was questioning my own integrity. I kept pointing out that this car went into the garage with no cooling system damage and left the garage with cooling system damage - doesn't take a genius. Her staff were saying they were nowhere near the coolant system yet had charged nearly £300 for a full service in which they are SUPPOSED TO CHECK THE COOLANT SYSTEM. She agreed to take the expense off my file but made sure to say that she thinks that it could have been damaged in the 2 mins it takes to drive 0.3 miles on a completely undamaged, straight road. I then had to go home, as we had no car to take to the holiday. They even had the cheek to phone at 2.30pm and say it was ready, knowing full well it was 3.5 hours late. Arrogant, scamming, lying, incompetent clowns. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Visited the Sighthill branch on Friday…

Visited the Sighthill branch on Friday 28 May to get the rear tyres checked. Was told I needed 2 new tyres. Not available on the day but appointment for 12.30 PM on Tuesday 1 June. Turned up to be told tyres had not arrived. I live some distance from this location. They already had my mobile number and address. It would be simple to let me know in advance and save me the wasted journey. Would never use this organisation again.

Running late to get my second…

Running late to get my second vaccination I drove over a kerb, burst one tyre and left mega bulge in the other - both passenger side.
I went and had the jab, came back to car and decided to give McConechys/Halfords in Johnstone a try.
They did not have a tyre to fit my car however one of the men ( Craig?) had a spare wheel with the same size tyre as I required. He very kindly took the tyre off his rim and put it onb my car so that I could get home. He then ordered two tyres for me for the following day and I made an appointment.
Following day he removed his tyre, replaced on his wheel and put the two new tyres on my car and it was all done within half an hour.
I cannot recommend these guys highly enough. They went above and beyond to help me out and were sympathetic, friendly and approachable. I will not go past them for future tyre needs.
Many thanks.

Excellent service, great staff!

I've used the Blyth branch a number of times over the past 2 years. Every one has been first class.

Lads are very friendly and can't help you enough. Jay the manager is very accomodating.

They are also very knowledgeable and have gotten me out of a couple of difficult situations.

As long as these lads are working there, I won't go anywhere else. Can't recommend this place enough.

10 out of 10 for service

Staff at McConnechys Partick went out of their way to help when my work car had a flat battery. I was about to take car to them for an MOT. As I was local, they offered to pick up car and charge battery, so MOT could go ahead. Can't ask for better service!

Rip off?

Took my car to Mcconechy's for a free brake check as i could hear scraping from them. I left the car with them and they called me back to tell me the front 2 calipers were leaking and the brake pads needed replacement. The driver rear caliper was also seized and needed to be replaced. The cost was £620. I was not prepared to pay this without a 2nd opinion so i asked them to put everything back together and i would pick the car up. They told me that this would not be easy as the parts were not in a good condition and they may not be able to put it all back without replacing something. They told me that they could give me a discount to £590 to go ahead. I said no and they put everything back. I took the car to another mechanic and they looked at the car and said there are no leaks in the calipers and the pads were approximately half way through. They also looked at the rear brakes and everything worked well, both wheels spun freely and when the brakes were pressed the wheels would not spin. No seized caliper! I took it out for a run and there was no longer a scraping sound, the mechanic said it was possible something had been stuck in the brakes, a stone for example. Anyway, the brakes seem fine and i did not have to spend £600.
What do you think....were Mcconechy's trying to rip me off?? Certainly looks like it....poor show from such a big company (Halfords).

Johnstone Legends.

Been using McConechys in Rankine St Johnstone for what must be 10 years now. Used to be Strathclyde Tyres back in the day. Always great service in there.
The boys are always chirpy and got a bit of chat for you. Work done is always explained to you and returned on time agreed without fail. Been keeping my old Volvo V70 on the road for many a year. I like a wee bit of a deal and the boys are always accommodating and can come and go a little on the price.
Wouldn’t take my cars anywhere else.
Special mention to Tony and Graham
a couple of legends.
