My experience at medical projects.

Quite an enjoyable experience. Watching surgeries and having first hand view of how doctors perform their jobs is really intriguing and a useful aspect to learn. Overall great experience, staff are friendly, straight forward, and easy to rely on when in need of help. Location (transylvania) was beautiful, with many mountainscapes and parks and perfect weather. Would recommend this experience to anybody who has the opportunity to go. :)

The Best Experience Of My Life

Completing my work experience in Romania was the best choice I made. The atmosphere of the hospital was very friendly which made my experience more comfortable. The whole trip was very organised and i enjoyed making new friends from all over the world. I loved that i could explore the beautiful town of Brasov whilst making new memories that are unforgettable.

The best decision I have made

I took a two-week trip to India with Medical Projects and it was the best decision I have ever made! Even though it was a short time, I was able to grow so much as a person, learn so much about medicine and life within a hospital as well as being able to develop communication and teamwork skills. Before I left, I was always able to receive answers to any questions I had via email and whilst on the trip I found a great amount of support. The people from Medical Projects that were on the trip gave advice and encouraged you to ask questions so that you could get the most from your time. I also went on the weekend trip and I would definitely recommend taking that opportunity as it taught me so much about the culture and way of life within the area, as well as giving a break from the intense hospital environment.
The trip taught me many lessons on who I wanted to become in life and how I could get there.

Amazing experience in Brasov, Romania!

I attended the project in Brasov, Romania. The experience was amazing! The hostel we stayed for 2 weeks was very clean and neat. Their hospitality was great. Our student placement coordinator always accompanied us to the hospital and arranged our attendance to surgeries and consultations, she always made sure we got the best experience we could. The two mentors we had who were studying medicine in the UK helped us get ready for university interviews and informed us about the application process in detail. They also thought us about initial assessment and treatment of patients in the ER and so many other things during our sessions. The city itself was beautiful and friendly as well. So was the hospital. The doctors and the surgeons took their time to explain procedures and cases at all times. I had one of the best experiences in my life during those 2 weeks. I definitely recommend students who want to study medicine in the future to experience such a programme.

Fantastic

I had a brilliant time in Brasov with the Romanian Medical Projects team. It was an excellent experience in the hospitals, as well as a nice and friendly atmosphere with the other students at the hostel, where I made some fantastic friends with other like-minded teenagers all applying to medicine from across the world.

You should go for it!!!!!

It was a truly amazing experience where I had the opportunity to be with those who also wanted to study medicine. Being given so much work experience exposed me to what medicine is like in practice and also having the UK medical students teaching basic clinical skills was fun. The accommodation was great and it was a good time to network with other so that they can look at your Personal Statement and answer questions you are just curious about. All in all I believe it is a great experience for anyone who wants to go down the health care field.

Unforgettable Time in Brasov

The trip did not meet my intitial expectation, however, i gained something elsewhere that is very precious and special, something I can still hold on to this very day. The medical training provided by the staffs that constitue of real medical students was exceptional. It provided a framework of mind I never have before which I can build on everyday in my journey in the medical field. Indeed, the training is composed of more than that, for it even included nuances in the field of medicine and the application process, which one simply could not attain elsewhere (mock interviews *cough*cough*). Most importantly, I, a Thai from Thailand, was able to settle in comfortably in the foreign environment of Brasov with foreign people from nations I have never visited. The staffs did well to limit the group size as our bonds flourish with this closeness. To this very day, I still have contact with them.
Unfortunately, there are also some negatives that can be improved. One thing I must emphasize is the limited range of medicine practices actually offered compared to that presented in the pamplet. Furthermore, the hospital that we attended to and the housing we lived in were completely different from what the pamphlet said the organization offered. Yet I had a great time, and I would recommend anyone to go on a one week placement in Brasov to experience how the medical field operates in a foreign country like Romania. The key thing is to lighten up and make some friends along the way.

Being very introverted myself, I was very reluctant to go in the beginning. I truly believe that the best decision I made this year was to go on this trip☺️

In July 2017 I spent a week with Medical Projects in Romania which I believe was a worthwhile experience.
Being very introverted myself, I was very reluctant to go in the beginning. I truly believe that the best decision I made this year was to go on this trip.
The medical students were amazing and taught us so much from clinical experience to doing a history, mock interviews etc
It really opened my eyes and made me see what it really was like to be a medical student. I wasn't sure if I wanted to study medicine but after this trip I was certain that I will apply to Medicine this year ( which I am currently doing)

This experience has heightened my enthusiasm to study medicine and excited to acquire all of those information.
The hospital experience was great, though in the beginning I felt unwelcomed. However i soon realised that the experience is what you make of it.
I was able to spend time in both the private and paediatric hospital and witnessed so many consultations and Surgeries. And also was able to explore the beautiful Brasov.

I cherish these memories and I'm so happy I went out of my comfort zone 😁
If you are like me and unsure whether to go; trust me when I say this. JUST GO, it is worth it💕
Thank you Medical projects and your lovely team for the wonderful experience 😊😊

Project Transylvania

During my two-week placement in Romania, I was able to see and learn many new things. From the medical students to the doctors at both the pediatric and private hospital, we were constantly being taught different things. The medical students were extremely helpful and detailed when answering our questions.

The aspiring medical/dentistry students were all nice and we had a great time touring around Brasov together. I even went to an escape room the second week!

When it came to the actual hospital placement, all of us had different experiences. I had such a memorable time in the private hospital. I was able to see multiple surgeries, sit in on consultations, as well as have the doctors explain the patients' cases in English once it was over. However, some other students had a hard time getting into consultations.

Overall it was a worthwhile experience and I would love to do it again!

Project Transylvania (Brasov)

I really enjoyed my 1 week in Brasov with Medical Projects. I learned so much while I was there; even outside the hospitals we had opportunities to be taught more about anatomy and/or diseases with the medical students there, and the afternoon sessions regarding interviews, applying to UK universities and entrance exams, and personal statements were really helpful and informative.
The host at the hostel was lovely and very friendly, the breakfast spread was good with lots of variety and being able to choose where to eat ourselves on an evening was much better than I expected. Brasov itself was very affordable and the main square was beautiful.
All round great experience, I would definitely do it again if I could. It is expensive, but personally I thought it was worth every penny. It helped me really decide if this was the career I wanted to pursue, and for me that made it 100% worth it.

An Amazing Experience

My two-week placement in Romania has definitely become one of the most memorable experiences of my life, where I got the opportunity to watch a wide range of surgeries and spend time in different departments. The medical students that were there with us were very helpful and friendly and I had a lot of fun making new friends and getting to explore the town square together. The only thing I'd say was a downside to this was how all the doctors only spoke in Romanian and how difficult it was to get into a consult at the clinic, but the medical students always made sure we learned something new every day when we spent time with them. So, overall it really was a great work experience and I would recommend this to anyone wanting to gain an insight into what a career in medicine entails!

I honestly believe that I had the time was extraordinary, the independence and opportunity to gain insight into a new side of medicine was fantastic!

I honestly believe that I had the time of my life during my two week placement. The staff were extremely friendly and realised that we were young adults and treated us like that. The placements themselves were incredible and gave me opportunities to experience medicine in a way that I wouldn't have been able to do so at home. Even now a month or so after my placement, I would recommend this team to anyone looking for a foreign work placement. Thanks a lot for being so awesome 😊

Dream work experience <3

This trip has been that of a lifetime and has kickstarted my pre-midwifery journey as well as being an eye opening cultural experience. My weekdays were spent at st joseph's mission hospital in moshi (near Kilimanjaro) where I shadowed my lovely mentor midwife in the labour/ob/gyn department getting the chance to observe natural births, c sections, medical emergencies from preeclampsia, ectopic pregnancies, severe tears to illegal abortions and situations where a mothers life was comprised. My weekends off were equally fantastic as I got to go off on safari and visit the hot springs which was nice 😊 I feel so privileged to have been able to learn such a wealth of information and observe how the maternity systems in the uk and Tanzania both vary yet have parallels/similarities. It's pretty hard to fathom seeing new life being brought into the world and I can honestly say the experience has changed me.Reason i have given 4 not 5 stars - I was the only midwifery student on placement ( not anyone's fault and i got on fantastically with everyone else on the group but maybe try to group midwifery students together) - thankfully I asked my mentors in advance to tailor the practice panel interviews to suit midwifery rather than medicine but maybe would have liked some advice on personal statements, qualities/ skills relevant to midwifery rather than medicine. I felt a little left out as they did a life as a medical student but they didn't have one for nursing/midwifery but that was understandable as they only had medical students as mentors and the majority of the group was medicine.

Very poor experience, the actual camp did not match all the planning on the website

At the hospital there was nothing to do and people were fighting over where to be. I could only sign up for a week at the project due to the fact that there were no places left and of the 5 days I should have spent at the hospital one day was off, leaving me with only 4 days of practice. And during those 4 days there were too many times when there was just nothing for me to do, especially when going to the pediatric hospital. The breakfast was lacking, and for dinner 20 lei is not enough allowance as it can buy little more than a snack and a drink. Overall I would call this experience a waste of my time and money and I am glad I was there for only one week.

UPDATE: the team did contact me in regards to the overpayment (mentioned in my original review) and I got a refund. At the moment they are also doing their best to adress the other issues that I have raised so expect an improvement in their services.

Amazing experience!

It was quite a scary prospect travelling to Tanzania on my own, but I must say that from the moment I touched down in Kilimanjaro and had met with the Medical Projects staff on the ground I felt extremely safe! Eleanor was so welcoming and special mention must go to her and Tony, both leading the project while I was there, as they were extremely attentive and I actually felt like they were really good friends of mine by the end of my trip, not just leaders!
Mock interviews with Alastar and Eleanor were much more useful than I expected! It was also really beneficial to have two current medical students, Alastar and Abby, with us on our trip!
Highlights were definitely the safari at the weekend and the orphanage we visited! One spectacular, one humbling!
Overall, I touched down at home a different person than when I took off two weeks before, more independent and more mature!
I think this is an extremely eye opening once in a lifetime opportunity to travel and explore countries you may never visit otherwise, meet new people from all over the world (making life-long friends in the process) and especially to strengthen your medical application through work experience in a third world hospital environment!

Project Transylvania – July 2017

Had a lovely work experience at the Sf Spitalul Constantin hospital in Brasov, Romania. The medical students were extremely friendly and helpful and were definitely a great helping hand for those who were interested in studying in the UK. They even taught us several things. We had great exposure to various surgeries and consultations. Also had lots of fun making new friends and having dinners at the square near our hostel. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in gaining some experience in the hospital to know what the life of a doctor is like. From the beginning, the Medical Projects staff were very prompt in receiving us from the airport until the end when they dropped us to the airport and stayed until we left. Wish I could join again sometime! It was most certainly worth it! :)

I really enjoyed the whole overall experience as I learnt a lot and I feel that the exposure that was given to us was remarkable. I also enjoyed the few times we all could hang out and discuss our day. the interview sessions were amazing as well. the tips and tricks that we learnt were amazing and I believe this will help us a lot for our university interviews.
