They are scammy, even though I cancelled my plan on the Plan setting 5 days into my subscription (for 1 month sub). But 1 day before my 1 month's subscription end, they auto charge your credit card. Now I realize it already going on for 3 months. Further, they do not allow to remove payment card, only replace. Stay away from MEGA.
Updated : Your claim that I didn't cancel my subscription within the required window is incorrect. I did follow the cancellation policy. If I hadn't, your support response would have rejected my cancellation request at that time.
The fact that I was charged for three additional months points to an error in your system, which appears to charge customers even after they have successfully canceled. I regret not taking a screenshot of the 'Plan' page after I canceled. As I recall, after clicking the 'Cancel' button, it became inactive, confirming that the action was complete. Despite this, my credit card was still charged after my subscription was supposed to end.

I use cloud storage mostly for photos and documents. MEGA cloud storage has plenty of free storage. Their security is better than almost any cloud storage out there. MEGA has zero-knowledge encryption. Meaning only the user has access to their password and the keys to access and can decrypt the data. MEGA employees do not have access to data to decrypt user files stored on their servers. However, this means MEGA cannot recover user data if users lose their password or recovery key. I'm an individual looking for secure cloud storage but not so secure that if I forget my password or recovery key, my documents and photos are lost forever. A HUGE CON for me is MEGA stores documents as read only. As a writer, a feature I'm looking for is the ability to edit my documents directly within the cloud. I'm aware I can upload my document and edit them and then download them again back to MEGA'S cloud storage; MEGA cloud storage may work for some people. For me overall, MEGA, lacks the inability to directly edit documents and edit images in the cloud, and gives me no ability to recover my password, therefore, losing my documents and photos forever. MEGA'S features just don't work for me.

A few years ago MEGA was the best.
No doubt they are losing money and no longer updating their software. Since its not working.
Shame there is no support wonder if they realize the files downloaded are corrupt.

MEGA deleted all my files just because I didn’t log in for 3 months. I missed the earlier warning emails because I was using my second email account — that part was my mistake.
But what shocked me is that when I contacted support, they told me some files might still be recoverable — but only if I paid for a Pro plan. This condition was never mentioned anywhere in their Terms & Conditions or policy pages. I only found out after the data was already gone.
It felt like a trap: offer free storage, delete everything quickly, then charge to even try recovering it.
I’m very disappointed and will not recommend MEGA to anyone.

From their first reply there was enough information to solve the problem from at least 2-3 different angles covering multiple use-case scenarios, and with step by step guides that even someone who is uninitiated with the service or computers in general would be able to understand.
Although a bit..distant in the phrasing, there is doubt in my mind as to whether I spoke with a human or bot, but despite who or what actually replied, please try to make it more humanlike, maybe add a face or a name somewhere, a bit more personal flare,
I'd hate to realize that I'm talking to an actual human who is is being forced to talk like a robot

❌ Paid for MEGA Pro, used less than 1%, canceled quickly — but still no refund.
Customer support just copy-pasted policy and didn’t care. I contacted them politely, explained the situation, but they refused to do anything.
I’ve now filed a dispute through my bank and will warn others to stay away.
There are better cloud options out there that actually respect their users.
👎 Very disappointing.

I use Mega to store my stuff and access it easilly from everywhere. Their customer service is great so far. I had an inactive account and as I contacted them I was reached back right away with a solution. Thank you, guys!

They canceled all data I had on my account (4 years of hard university work, I can't believe it), just because I didn't log in for more than 3 months.
They just sent me an email to warn me about my inactivity, without clearly saying that they could delete everything after this (short) period.
It's a joke that, on their website, they brag to safely store your files, but they don't mention anything about this abusive policy, which of course I didn't know before.
I subscribed to the pro account to try to recover my data, but a good portion was already deleted.
This policy is clearly a way to not stress too much their storage system and get some money in a dirty way at the same time, very clever and malignous strategy!
Avoid MEGA, use another provider and always be careful with this data erase policies.

I contacted MEGA support abount a VPN configuration.
The support gave me prompt feedback, but the feature I was looking for was planned but not released yet.
What I found really great is that the support updated me as soon as the feature was released.

I'm so happy that they came up with mega and provide us the best and simple way to store and manage data. I'm using mega from past few years for storing and managing my personal life data and work data and I have literally no complain. Imagine recovering files after permanently deleting them from rubbish bin, this is lifesaving feature for someone like me who wants to document life and keep up all the important data. The end-to-end encryption gives me a peace of mind that my personal photos and videos are safe. The interface and the overall using experience is so good as well, thank you mega.

I've been with Dropbox for about 10 years with Linux. In that time Dropbox has failed in many respects - specifically for me the inability to selectively sync files to the local drive on Linux (MEGA does this perfectly) and the system tray icon and drop down menu not correctly working (both working perfectly on MEGA) as well as their derisory free storage (MEGA 20GB a very generous offer). MEGA Support is very proactive too in resolving any issue quickly.
If, like me, you feel that Dropbox has dropped the ball and no longer cares about the home (SME) user market - MEGA is now the place to be.
