We had a fantastic stay at Mill Lodge Retreat. The team were incredibly helpful from start to finish and really went above and beyond to make sure everything was just right for us. A special thank you for how well they catered for my son’s dietary needs – it made a huge difference and took a lot of stress away.
We felt genuinely looked after throughout our stay and can’t wait to come back again. Highly recommend!

I would start by saying the guys that run the place are great - really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The lake is very pretty too.
But I think Mill Lodge has quite a few issues, meaning we will not be returning. First one is cost - it cost us £170 a night and this did not include fishing (an extra £30 a day!). When we realised how much it was all going to cost we tried to cancel, but were told they do not allow cancellations. Partly my fault for not reading all the many terms/rules, but still an unusual policy.
One of the most annoying/expensive rules is that you cannot bring any of your own food or drink in. So your only options are the menu (for your 3 meals) and mini bar for drinks/snacks. If you do bring your own food you’ll get fined £25. The food from menu is fine but works out very expensive over a weekend. A bottle of beer from mini bar is £3.50.
Another issue I want to mention is the facilities. The lodge we stayed in was very basic and very tired looking. The beds and chairs are very uncomfortable, carpet is very dirty and only options for lighting are very dim or extremely bright. The toilet blocks are a bit shabby and shower areas are not the cleanest! Also, light wasn’t working in toilet/shower block for weekend we were there.
I feel like it could be a really nice place to stay if some of these rules were loosened and facilities renewed/improved.
