The form for entering lost property…

The form for entering lost property details didn't work. It would reset every time I tried to enter something, whith no explanation why, even though I knew for a fact that it was all correct. How as a software company can such a simple blunder exist on your key service. Rediculous joke.1

Completely useless

Completely useless. You register a loss with them, claim a likely item, then hear nothing. Without telling people no item matching the description has been found, it just seems that you are lost.

No direct contact to follow up

Have tried many times to contact support for update on my property. It has been over a month with no way of checking if item has actually been found. I have been in contact with rail network who I travelled with and when spoke with them they told me I would be better off going to lost property at Waterloo station in London and speaking with someone there. The person I spoke too told me they have received many calls like mine, where they have not had any response from Missing X. In my opinion the service is not fit for purpose as they do not seem to be able to reply any update in an efficient manner.

Reply from MissingX - Software for lost property offices

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. I understand your frustration about not receiving updates on your lost property after a month.
Just to clarify how the process works - when you register a lost item on MissingX, any updates or matches would come directly from the lost property office, not from MissingX itself. We're the software platform that facilitates the connection, but all communication about found items comes from the train company's lost property team.

This is explained on our website and in the email confirmation you would have received when registering your item. The rail network representative you spoke with gave you good advice - visiting the lost property office directly would be the most effective way to check on your item's status.

It sounds like the lost property office may be experiencing delays in processing registrations or responding to customers, which unfortunately is beyond our control as the software provider. We can only provide the tools - the actual service delivery depends on how each lost property office manages their processes.

Thank you for your understanding.

Useless - a veil for their customers to hide behind

I had a hopeless experience with this tool. I realise it is not really the fault of the software provider if their users don't use it correctly, but this tool exists to make it easier for their corporate customers to reduce staff and save money, whilst creating a worse customer experience.
I recently lost some property on a UK railway station whilst boarding a train. I knew exactly where it was, I could see it on the platform as the doors closed behind me. The train manager made an announcement on the train saying "to the customer who dropped XYZ on the station, it is at ABC station". This is a station located several thousand miles away from where I live. The station and the train operating company have made it impossible to contact them directly - referring me to missingx instead. I filled in the form within half an hour of the incident occurring. I then proceeded to wait for 3 weeks with no follow-up. In the end I had to ask a friend to make a special trip to this station to ask in-person on my behalf and of course they had the item all along.
Sounds like a good system in theory (hence 2 stars and not 1) but was useless in my case.

it took a lot of time

it took a lot of time
I don't know who Trustpilot is, or where that company is in the stream of event. It took about a week before Gardemoen posted my computer as found; they did not email me about it. I found it when I looked a third or 4th time.
It then took 2-3 more days before they told me how to get it shipped back.
Once I got onto the shipping company, I was very happy to learn that my computer should be in the US with me in about 2 days. I will be happy with 3 days, but remain nervous about it.

Doesn't work. Need direct points of contact

If you lose an item on a train or at a station, all you are told is use Missing X, it will end up on there if it gets found. You can't call anyone, you can't email, you can't check the status of your item or find out if its even being looked for. You just have to hope someone finds it and maybe uploads it.

In my case, it was found at a station, but never uploaded on Missing X. ANYONE WHO HAS LOST SOMETHING - READ THIS: contact the rail operator through live chat on x (twitter). By doing that I was reunited with my case which I lost on a train. If I had simply relied on Missing X, I never would have got it, because even though I logged it and it was found, I was never contacted like they promised. Nor was it uploaded. I had to message London North West Railway for DAYS until they told me they had it.

Missing X will say its not their fault and the station staff should have dealt with it - but this is a review of Missing X, who aim to reunite people with their stuff, and in this case, it was absolutely hopeless. This review acts as a warning to people who have lost their stuff - use X, not MissingX. There is a good chance your stuff has been found, but not uploaded on this website.

Reply from MissingX - Software for lost property offices

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for providing helpful advice to other customers. I'm genuinely glad to hear you were eventually reunited with your case through contacting London North West Railway directly.

You're absolutely right that this highlights a gap in the process. When found items aren't uploaded to our system by station staff, it creates exactly the frustrating situation you experienced - items are found but customers have no way of knowing through our platform.
While MissingX provides the software tools for lost property management, the effectiveness ultimately depends on consistent use by station staff to register found items. When this step is missed, as happened in your case, the entire system breaks down from the customer's perspective.

Your suggestion about contacting rail operators through social media is valuable practical advice for others in similar situations. It's unfortunate that customers need to work around the system rather than rely on it.

We take feedback like yours seriously as it helps us understand where improvements are needed, both in our software and in working with our clients to ensure better consistency in the process.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for helping other customers who might be in similar situations.
