Top quality kit made in Britain

After seeing great reviews and hearing loads of good stuff from plumber pals I just invested in a Monument (originals) 15mm pipe cutter from Screwfix. I honestly wish I’d bought one years ago. It’s a game changer. Cuts quickly, cleanly, perfectly. I could have bought yet another China made piece of disposable tat (the stuff that all the big hardware companies sell) but guess what.. time to invest in a top British company. In fact guys let’s spend a little more in favour of quality, jobs and communities. The quality manufacturers survive in the free world and will thrive if we cut out our addiction to the cheap poorly made kit churned out by China. Buy British, Buy Yank, Buy Aussie, Kiwi and Canadian and Commonwealth and you won’t regret it!

Quality issues with castings on an individual product

Quality issues with castings on a particular product. We have existing monument tools that are of good quality; so on that quality basis we have just ordered and received an expensive pair of monument 368 3680 seaming pliers. bought from a UK dealer online. however these were found have quality issues ie badly cast with handles offset to the side of one another. they would work but had the feel of being skewed when used. the nosings were also over ground. It looks to be that they were cast in the far east not uk as advertised. why would a once reputable company not quality check products before offering them for sale? We had to return this item at our expense. few outlets stock these and in any case we do not have the time to travel and personally check the stock at every dealer outlet to see if they all have the same (or other) manufacturing defects. all we want is a new tool without quality of manufacturing issues. If it was a cheap tool from china we would accept workable defects but not an expensive allegedly uk made tool. hope we can edit review/give more stars depending on company response, but will wait and see. have given two stars as the tool can be used, but the balance/feel of using it is wrong we are sorry to say. we were looking to buy a quality made monument 367 and 368, but our confidence in the current quality of the product giving concern that we can no longer obtain such in the trade quality we expect from a toolmaker with a previously good reputation for quality. is this just a uk badged item and a sign of what the modern uk tool market has become?
