Poor service by poorly trained staff

Called for assistance with a flat motorcycle battery. Promised a response within 60-90 minutes. They finally arrived after 3 hours. Had to phone several times to chase them up as I was stranded away from home on a petrol station forecourt. The recovery operator who finally arrived was excellent but the staff at GEM confused my breakdown with someone else’s and at one point told me help would arrive the next day! This the first time I used GEM after years of membership. Good magazine, but (based on this experience) appalling service.

Renewal price was over 25%+ on previous year, tried to cancel auto renew online and on the phone but neither worked, really disappointing experience.

GEM are a road safety organisation and…give a first class service.

GEM are a road safety organisation and support many good initiatives and lobby groups to make sensible changes or improvements to the roads for all road users. As an additional benefit they offer this really good breakdown service which you can tailor to suit your family needs. On the few occasions that I have to use this service. It has been first class. I have been a member for over 25 years. They are also able to give advice on various motoring issues. I would recommend them.

Wanting to join the scheme but one of my vehicles being a bit "different" I needed to check first that it would be covered if recovery was needed, this was satisfactorily cleared up with an emailed enquiry to GEM's helpful customer service and as a result I am now a member

The Best.

I’ve been with GEM a number of years now and they are by far the best breakdown service out there. So if you are feeling frustrated with either of the big two…leave them, there is a better way.

A comfort among a sea of breakdown companies

Breaking down can be scary and intimidating. GEM were really helpful in every way. They took my details and someone was with me in 20 minutes. He was easy to talk to, understanding and knowledgable about my car problem. I highly recommend GEM

First time user, very impressed

First time user so to be greeted promptly on the phone by a cheerful, clear and very competent person was impressive. Enrolment was simple and straightforward.
It seems to be a comprehensive policy and very good value for money.

GEM are now refusing my refund

My 3rd update and Paula at GEM is now refusing to refund my membership fees even though they can clearly see that I have requested cancellation within their own 14 day period and even though their own staff acknowledge that they failed in providing the service I paid for.

The phone was answered promptly by an operator who I could understand.
I was well informed about what should happen next.
After my initial phone call, you took control.
The mechanic arrived within the time frame proposed, and got my car going.

Front of desk lady was really nice and explaned clearly the options. I received all the documents immediatly by email and the actual policy doc arrived withing 3 days, simple and quick with immediate cover from next day
with the ID cards for the family, peice of mind for all and better cover and cheaper than our previous. Thankyou. Andrew Lake.
