Terrible customer service.

My wife was recently diagnosed with a stage 4 brain cancer. Both of us have worked in healthcare for decades. We know insurance companies.

We put in a claim for long term care benefits for which there is zero doubt my wife s current level of disability qualifies for.

The customer service is TERRIBLE even by insurance company standards. It took 2 weeks for forms to arrive. Multiple times a week I get letters (all 2 weeks old) demanding forms that have already been submitted.

It seems this company has never heard of fedex (can’t spring for overnight on a claim worth 10s of $1000s? Never heard of the internet? It’s not difficult to make a HIPAA compliant portal.

Almost 2 months and nothing. There’s a good chance my wife will die before this claim is approved. This insensitive and reduplicative process is so difficult for families typically dealing with a health crisis in a debilitated loved one.

The policy looks great until you try to communicate or get paid.

Sad and worried

First, let me start by saying I’m 67 years old and I have never applied for any kind of financial aid. In the last few years I’ve had two surgeries for cancer and 2 heart attacks. I did not apply for financial assistance from mutual of Omaha either time. My mistake

In November I was diagnosed with Covid. It has hit me hard. My memory is deteriorating. My and my balance is not good. My daughter has moved me back to our home state so she can care for me. I have appointments at OSU in March, just to make sure there’s no other issues, during the last three months, I have been dealing with Mutual of Omaha. What a joke! I have been given the runaround so many times I’ve gotten used to it! Yesterday I finally received a phone call, informing me that I was denied any type of financial help or benefit, although I have been paying into it for years , the reason was they needed more from a doctor. She informed me that I could dispute this. I’m just wondering in the meantime who’s going to pay my bills? I’m very fortunate to have a son and daughter to help me but they can only afford to do so much. I really don’t understand because I thought with Covid you were automatically covered, unfortunately I get confused very easily so that could be wrong. I’ve read bad reviews about them but if you dig deeper, you get the truth. I am very hurt, and I am very scared about watch the future holds for me financially. I do want to say that I’m very fortunate to work for an amazing company who is holding my position I know I can’t expect him to do it forever but I’m thankful that they are. I’m going to OSU in March for more testing so time will tell.

My work goes through this company for…

My work goes through this company for short term disability. I applied and was approved for maternity leave. I had my baby on Dec 12th 2022 and have yet to receive any short term disability. Every time I call they tell me something went wrong with the electronic deposit and they have to resend it as it was returned. No one follows up with me OR calls back. I have to constantly call to stay on top of them. The guy that was assigned to me wasn't even in office until last week, causing me to have to work through other people. This company is a nightmare. I will be advising my employer, and anyone within ear shot, how horrible this company is to work with. I'm in a financial bind because their constant errors.

Terrible customer service

This was my first experience with trying to get dental insurance and I signed up for Mutual of Omaha because my father suggested it. I did NOT know that this insurance was not covered anywhere in the area I reside so I called the SAME DAY I applied (November 15th) to cancel the policy. The lady I spoke to told me it was in processing but she would put a note in there to cancel it and I would be reimbursed for the money they took out since I couldn't use this insurance. Shame on me for not verifying because along comes January and I was once again charged by Mutual of Omaha on the 3rd. I called customer service on January 6th to cancel my policy ONCE AGAIN and requested reimbursement for the January withdrawal. The lady on the phone was very rude and she made it sound like I never called to cancel my policy in November. I'm biting the bullet for my first charge from November 15th because I don't want to deal with their customer service. If I don't get my January charge reimbursed I will be very upset with this company especially since I called the SAME DAY I applied to cancel and I cannot use this insurance so it's a waste of my money.

Mutual of Omaha; not worthy

Mutual of Omaha;I've been waiting half an hour for them to answer the phone, but they never do. They also never confirm claims or return calls. They try to collect memberships even when you're disabled, and there's no empathy or professionalism. It's terrible.

Incompetent and/or evil

My mother was diagnosed with dementia several years ago, and her doctor asked that she be moved into assisted living; a visiting nurse deemed her living situation unsafe, as she was hoarding and completely mismanaging her medications. She had invested in long term care insurance for decades--which her doctor and her community told me should cover her care--but Mutual has denied claims several times. Most recently, they failed to respond to an appeal that's three months old.

It is obvious that Mutual of Omaha is not a company dedicated to the common good or the wellbeing of its customers, but an enterprise that greedily profits off the vulnerability of those who cannot care for themselves. Stay away. Stay far, far away.

I have had nothing but excellent…

I have had nothing but excellent service with this insurer. I purchased a guaranteed life right before Covid hit. My husband was a diabetic with other health issues. The premiums were high but I knew it was necessary. He passed October 2022. I called and the representative asked me to hold on. She called the funeral home to confirm his death. His benefit was approved on the spot and I had a check in three days. My husband was a city worker/ union 32 years and I cannot tell you all of the paperwork they want before payout for a few thousand and they tax 20%. As well as other insurers. W9, certified death, copies of I’d, notaries, copies of paid funeral bills. It’s absolutely ridiculous. None of them have paid out and he died a month ago. I was fortunate to have cash on hand to pay his expenses. But many don’t. Since his death, I have heard of horror stories from families who can’t get paid after years of paying a policy. Maybe I was lucky but I know I was fortunate.

My husband passed away in motor vehicle…

My husband passed away in motor vehicle accident one month ago, today. I called to report his accident, and death. The gal had absolutely no idea what she was doing. I got a letter that his insurance was canceled on the day I had called. I called again. A new gal said with a snotty attitude, “This is an ACCIDENTAL death policy!” I explained how was husband died. She assured me a claim form was on its way. Noting. I called AGAIN! That gal assured me a claim was on its way. I found a way to start a claim online. After submitting it says, “you will be contacted within one business day”. NOTHING! I did it again this morning. Waiting, but I’m not expecting a call.

Mutual of Omaha IGNORED Me for Weeks

I was paired with Mutual of Omaha through Costco's mortgage program. The agent I was assigned to presented me with a very attractive offer for a refinance on my mortgage. After getting my application in, this agent ignored me on many different occasions. He even went on vacation for a week and did not have the decency to inform me, nor pass me onto a colleague who actually had time to work with me. Emails and phone calls were continuously ignored. All of this occurred during the time I was desperately trying to get a rate lock in, but his delays eventually caused me to lock in a higher mortgage rate with a lower lender credit two and a half weeks later.

I took my grievances to Costco and Mutual of Omaha, but they decided to do nothing for me other than a mediocre apology and a pathetic $500 refund, even though this horrible experience will end up costing me thousands of dollars over the life of my loan. Mutual of Omaha deserves zero stars or less for the experience I went through. I have no idea to this day why I was ignored... it was as though they were purposefully trying to delay my rate lock so that they didn't have to give me the offer that was originally presented to me. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Do better!

On hold for AN HOUR

I have been on hold for AN HOUR waiting to ask a question about an incorrect charge on premiums. The automated response of "we are experiencing higher than normal call volumes" does not serve customers and does not excuse poor service.

MOH from bad to worse

Mutual of Omaha Mortgage seriously lacks in customer service. The original process with the loan officer was rocky and communication was lacking on their end. Every time I spoke with the officer and gave explicit instructions, things were obviously missed. I started conducting my business in writing because of this. In addition to having to pay extra to extend the lock (was NOT communicated to me and they were responsible for the delay in their underwriting), the officer messed up the loan amount at the closing table and blamed me (I had written proof he was wrong and he just 'shrugged' it off as a 'whoops'). He conceded and just said "I guess you're just going to give me a bad review". A person purporting to be quality assurance calls me to ask about my experience and I factually told her. The mortgage officer then sends me a nasty gram saying I shouldn't reach out to others to bag on him. Turns out it was some kind of office politics I was in the middle of it...completely unprofessional. Ultimately, I did get my loan closed, but had to pay extra to extend the lock (was their fault) and I got a loan amount less than what I applied for (their fault, admittedly).

Once I closed the loan, the customer service became worse. Their loan servicing is absolutely atrocious. I became aware, very quickly, they over estimated my escrow closing needs by double! They then erroneously sent a refund check to my property insurance carrier. Why? Who knows. Property insurance takes weeks to send it back, MOH won't do anything until it's sent back. After months of back and forth they finally figure out they overestimated what I would need to bring to closing by THOUSANDS. They have to run an 'analysis' to refund my money. Takes another MONTH to run this analysis and get the check promising me the check in 15 business days. Takes a month, tell them in the meantime that I haven’t received it. They cancel the check and reissue because it took too long. Receive a check 2 weeks later – assume it is the reissued check. Deposit it….check has a stop pay on it and my bank charges me a fee. Nope, it was the original check….call MOH to find out what is going on, they refuse to reimburse me for any expenses and say their new check was reissued AFTER I called them regarding my cancelled check being deposited….so, clearly they messed up again. Every time I speak with them, the customer service representatives don’t have any ability, knowledge, or autonomy to do anything to help me. I speak with the manager and they just shrug me off. It is a constant and consistent battle every single time. I am told, now 7 months after loan closing and them holding my thousands of dollars in escrow, that my check is on the way….will see. I will go out of my way to tell people to steer clear of MOH….the closing was horrible, I had to pay hundreds in extra expenses, they cost me more money outside of the loan, they have horrible communication, don’t want to make anything right, are more worried about their commissions and internal politics, and have held onto my money for longer than should be legal. Absolutely disgusted at the time wasted and money spent on this organization. Should have just gone to a competitor.

Poor product, customer service & response

We had two term life policies with Mutual of Omaha (Colorado Springs Agent) for many years. After meeting with him on a review of our policies he recommended we convert them to what he represented was a whole life policy with long term care, with a fixed premium and no expiration. After several months we discovered our policies were Universal Life Policies with a critical care rider, which could expire at age 85. Additionally the premiums were not guaranteed. This was not what we requested nor what was represented.

Due to the misrepresentations and minimizing of the issues, we contacted and met with our agent. He initially argued but then said he understood and acknowledged the policy was not a whole life and long term care that we had requested. He said these were products and he did not know everything about them. He said he understood our concerns and forwarded our complaint on to Mutual of Omaha main office. Their response was initially extremely poor. We did not receive any acknowledgement of the complaint, there was no investigation done and no one called us. Months went by as we tried to get answers. Mutual promised return calls which we never received. Finally after persistence and discussions with numerous people, the entire amount of premiums paid, totaling several thousand dollars were refunded and one term life insurance policy was reinstated. This process took over a year!

After loosing all confidence and trust in Mutual of Omaha, we pursued and obtained another term life policy with another insurance company. We then began the process to cancel the existing term life policy with Mutual of Omaha. This was also problematic. We were told different things by different representatives about the process to cancel and to obtain a refund of the month premium. This took two months when initially they said ten days.

We write this review in order to hopefully help others from getting into the same situation as we experienced. We would suggest anyone purchasing a policy, especially Mutual of Omaha’s Universal Life with a critical care writer, have it reviewed by another insurance agent or attorney. We would never recommend Mutual of Omaha.

Mutual of Omaha mortgage division is a complete waste of time. Unprofessional and total liars. Do not waste your time with these jerks. 800+ score, more money in investments than the mortgage amount, and still denied by stupid so called mortgage professionals. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. These imbeciles at MOO do not return emails, phone calls, or text messages. All of their staff should be fired.

Mutual of Omaha Mortgage

I just wanted to share my experience with one of your providers. I applied with Mutual of Omaha on May 19 and have yet to close. The loan officer was very helpful however, the company didn't follow thru. I am actively employed but on a medical shelter in place. I was lead to believe that was not a problem. I have been employed by a large corporation for 24 years and my not working recently was my choice due to a serious health issue. I explained all this and thought we could work it out. I have exceptional credit and an LTV of less than 50% It seemed to not be an issue and was given a closing date. I received a subsequent email asking for an explanation from my employer. Which they will not do and just like that 2 months of waiting is gone in a blink. I simply can't understand how this can happen. I wanted to share my very negative experience with all for future reference.

New customer experience

My initial introduction to Mutual of Omaha was with Richard Wentz.

I made the call after seeing an ad on TV for reducing the cost of my supplemental insurance.

Richard enlightened me but I still needed the approval of my brother
(we run everything by one another)

Not able to locate Richards number I signed up with another agent. The timing was right. Since Richard Wentz did the foot work, I think he deserves acknowledgement.
