Our paternal grandparents immigrated to US in 1912. We are reuniting with relatives this September when we visit Denmark, thanks to My Danish Roots. Your persistence at finding living relatives at our request were so successful and has brought us so much joy! I had high hopes when retaining My Danish Roots, and their team exceeded my expectations! I had taken my Danish tree back to the late 1700s, but could go no further. If I was lucky enough to locate an old record, the handwriting was usually too difficult to fully comprehend. I learned that misinterpreting even one letter in a name (or relying on a genealogy site's transcription of a record I can't see), can result in incorrectly identifying an ancestor.

The team was professional, timely, courteous, friendly, and helpful. They didn't duplicate any of the research I had already done, but instead added much new and important information. They provided regular progress updates and images (with explanations) of all records found. The amount of research they accomplished in the time allotted was amazing! I absolutely feel I got more than I paid for.

I've hired three different genealogy companies in three different countries, and My Danish Roots is without question the best. I initially retained them for only 5 hours to see how they would do. I will definitely be retaining their services again!

I find Danish records rather difficult to untangle for the family lines as there are so many repeats of the same name. And those surnames in the early 1800's and before. So confusing ! Danish roots were able to trace my ancestors back to the early 1800s. Providing me with a good geographical sense of where families were located in Denmark and emigration movements in the mid 19th century. MDR uncovered interesting, unknown and somewhat startling facts about my grandfather's parents and early life in Copenhagen prior to him emigrating to Australia.

I needed to find information on my grandparents and I had very little to offer. But they got me all the information plus extra information on my great grandparents.

My third cousin and I were looking for confirmation that our common ancestor (6 generations into the past), who migrated to the US in 1866, came from a village in a small parish in southern Sjaelland. I tried reading the Danish church books myself but they were almost impossible to decipher. I approached My Danish Roots to help us - not only did they confirm our ancestor came from that parish, they were able to draft a tree of that ancestors' siblings and give us occupations as well as church confirmation ceremony information. Everything was backed up by scans of the relevant primary sources (file titles all clearly labelled). All our findings was summarized for us in a separate PDF with a family tree. I only paid for two hours' worth of work and I am highly impressed. I cannot recommend My Danish Roots more!

One of my better decisions in life was to contact the Team at MyDanishroots. Throughout the gathering of information they were very professional and expeditious. Their expertise was clearly evident in the accumulation of family history that I received. As I embark on my first trip back to Denmark since immigrating to Canada in 1957, the team at My Danish Roots has provided me with the info I need to make this trip a really memorable experience.

I've been working with My Danish Roots for over a year exploring my Danish ancestry. It has been a superb experience working with Niels. He has always been responsive to my requests and helped me identify some fascinating stories and tidbits of my ancestry. Probably the most significant find was his reporting of a 3rd great-grandfather emigrating to the states. With that information, I was able to locate his grave in Wisconsin. None of my family in Wisconsin knew of that connection. It was family history that had been lost for 100 years.

The info I received free of charge on my initial enquiry was enough to convince me to book a few hours of a thorough search. Their fees r quite reasonable, u decide the direction of your search and u control the cost. They were very professional but also friendly and it felt like I had friends searching . Kept me updated throughout the process. They broke down walls in my family tree that I had been working on for years with no results. They found so much info and backed it up with scans of original documents . It was Amazing! Using My Danish Roots was one of the best decisions I ever made ! I will def use them in future searches. I am so grateful for all the ancestors and details about their lives that the team found for me. .

We chose mydanishroots.dk from a positive online review seen while investigating Danish genealogical services whom we might engage to discover more about a great-great-grandmother and great-grandfather (son). The response was prompt and clear (with some preliminary findings provided immediately); and before even agreeing retention of their services, mydanishroots.dk had confirmed her full name, place and date of birth and provided the names of her parents (of whom beforehand we had no knowledge whatsoever).
After paying for (a very few) agreed hours to be worked, we received within days a staggering amount of detailed information on both subjects, and generations behind them; with all facts backed by clear copies of original source materials. Over 30 document scans plus a prepared preliminary family tree and clear timelines on the lives of the two main subjects were received.
We are absolutely DELIGHTED with the service we have received and will very probably go back for further investigations. Astounding ... And we should say also that communications from the group have been prompt, friendly and helpful throughout.

Amazing finds. Niels confirmed the ancestry of my Danish great-grandfather, who emigrated to the U.S. back in the 1890s. Stories about his parents and siblings had been passed down over the generations, but Niles was able to document and confirm details about names, dates and places. Fantastic work.

Niels has been a great help to me. My grandfather left Denmark at 18, one of nine children. Sadly, he died when I was 12 or so and much of his story remained untold. Working with Niels, now that my cousin and I are planning a trip to Copenhagen and Aarhus this fall, has been amazing. Together we have uncovered what happened to my ancestors, where they lived, where they are buried, and Niels even translated a letter from my great grandmother, which is just priceless. I hope to continue to work with Niels to learn more about my ancestors. I always wanted to go to Denmark, but now I can’t wait to walk the streets of my great grandparents, grandfather, his siblings, and their children! With any luck my cousin and I will get to meet some long lost relatives as well!

Working with Niels at My Danish Roots was a very enjoyable experience. From the very beginning he understood what our desired goal was with this research and he helped us to accomplish that goal. The thoroughness and accuracy shown has helped to add "flesh to the bones" of my 150 year family mystery. While I taught myself to "read" some Danish records I would NEVER have been able to decipher the other more challenging records such as the Musters Rolls (Military Levy rolls).
I really felt that feedback from My Danish Roots was tailored to my situation. All records copied were at a very high resolution and were labelled so that, if I could not read the gothic Danish text in the records myself, the labels directed me to where I needed to look.
This is the second time I have used the service, initially I did not have any useful information, but, after several years of my own efforts I was able to return with much more accurate details and Niels was able to follow up on my original search.
For me, this has been a very worthwhile association with an organisation to initially start my Danish research with and, a perfect place to round off the research and to know I hadn't forgotten anything. Definitely value for money and my ancestor thought he could hide, but not from Niels!

Niels was extremely professional and courteous. The search wasn't as successful I thought it could be, since the records he found were lacking enough information to proceed to findings of the previous generation. He was quick enough in his responses and gave me valuable information nonetheless, as well as an extended family tree -- all of it was attained in only 1.5 hrs of research.

Niels was also honest when he got stuck and refunded me for the unused time. I would recommend My Danish Roots to anyone interested in getting information on their Danish ancestors.
