I was initially happy with MyExpatTaxes and purchased the Reviewed package for approximately €270. After spending many hours entering my information and uploading the required tax documents, I discovered that I couldn't complete my return without upgrading to another package costing roughly an additional €270.

What frustrated me most was that the upgrade was triggered by the number of supporting documents required. My return included foreign employment income, RSUs, a K-1, and other common expat tax documents, so uploading documentation wasn't optional—it was necessary to complete an accurate return. By the time I learned about the additional cost, I had already invested considerable time in the platform.

I understand that different pricing tiers exist, but I believe the full expected cost—and any limits that would require an upgrade—should be made much clearer before customers spend hours preparing their returns.

At that point, I felt stuck between paying another substantial fee or abandoning all the work I had already completed. For expats with more complex tax situations, I think greater pricing transparency would significantly improve the customer experience.

Update: After raising my concerns, the company refunded my purchase, which I appreciate. Overall, compared with hiring a traditional tax professional, MyExpatTaxes can still represent good value for many expats. My recommendation is simply to confirm the total expected price for your specific tax situation before investing time in the platform. I also hope they continue improving the review process as many supporting documents are fairly standardized and greater automation could help reviewers focus on exceptions and speed up turnaround times.

So much easier than doing it myself. Also I needed last year's AGI and it was there once I found my past years' returns on your site.

The application is fairly easy to use and when further explanation is required the team responds, but not always as quickly as hoped. Ultimately a good experience and I would use MyExpatTaxes again.

It was an easy process to file the 1040. The customer service from Anita Dongolo was above and beyond duty. When I had issues with the FBAR she responded to me quickly. Even after the filing I still had questions which she answered even on a Saturday.
The application for the FBAR could be improved to have a drop down menu to explain why the filing is late.

Fantastic product. The YouTube videos are clear and informative. The user interfaces are easy to use. The whole experiences was remarkably straightforward.
