Nest was set up by the government to give every UK worker somewhere good to save after the introduction of auto enrolment. Since then, it’s grown to become the largest workplace pension scheme in the country with more than 13 million members. As a not-for-profit pension scheme, Nest doesn't answer to shareholders. It’s set up to serve its customers’ interests and aims to help millions of people enjoy a better retirement. Nest’s members benefit from an award-winning investment strategy and one of the most diversified DC portfolios in the industry. It practices responsible investment to help manage long-term growth and risk while also helping contribute towards the world its members want to live and retire in.

Nest is excellent. It is very easy to understand, use and make changes. The info about the various options is very clear and simple to change if needed. My only criticism is that the public are nowhere near as educated about pensions as they should be. This however, is no fault of Nest. The Government should do more about this.

Very easy to get a plan and payment setup, 10 minutes. You have total control over your contribution level and your investment choices.
You also have control over when you are able to retire the policy.

Opt-out process unnecessarily difficult.
Logged into the portal, as directed by the letter I received, used the reference number at the top of the page, as directed, but it was not recognised. Tried multiple times, thinking I had entered it incorrectly, left it a few days and tried again - same issue.
Called the Service Desk, struggled to get passed the automated service, as it didn't recognise my reference. Finally got through to a person, but the line was awful and I struggled to hear them.
I explained that I wanted to opt out, as I already have a pension, and he said he would put me through to the automated line. I explained that I couldn't use that, as it didn't recognise my reference - which he then provided to me. The reference number on my letter was 32 characters, which contained numbers, letters and symbols (/ & -) but my reference was the first 12 characters. It would have been useful of the website had stated that.
The only reason I gave a 2 star review, was because the customer service agent was quite helpful, even if i struggled to hear him.

Enrolled by my employer. I'm am a luddite buy even I find there website easy to navigate. It's straight forward to alter or amend contributions, make one off payments. Please bear in mind that if you become a 40% tax payer they can only claim 20% back for you. The other 20% you have to claim from HMRC.

I have been trying to transfer my pension from NEST to another pension provider and have completed and signed every document they requested and was told it will take 24 to 48 hours to process, I am stuck on stage one for a whole month. Despite this, I keep receiving letter after letter telling me I must visit MoneyHelper before my pension can be transferred. This is 2026, and I have successfully transferred pensions from other pension providers without any unnecessary delays or endless back-and-forth. NEST has made what should be a simple process incredibly frustrating and time-consuming. I understand the importance of safeguarding customers, but I am not a vulnerable customer and I am fully capable of making my own financial decisions. I have clearly stated that I want my pension transferred, yet my request continues to be delayed by unnecessary requirements. If there is a genuine reason for this requirement, it should have been explained clearly from the beginning rather than repeatedly sending the same letters. Instead of processing my transfer, NEST has caused unnecessary delays and wasted my time. This has been the worst customer service I have experienced. Based on my experience, I would not recommend NEST to anyone looking for an efficient and straightforward pension provider.

It's easy to understand the benefits I will have by adding money my pot and how to do it.

I transferred £10k into my Nest pension fund, after the transfer was made, an error message appeared, stating ‘transfer unsuccessful, please try again later’. My banking app immediately told me £10k had been removed from my account and had been paid to ‘Nestle’ not Nest. Nest customer services (none UK) were hopeless, stating there was no record of any payment being made.
Five days later, the money appeared in my Nest account but I had nearly a week of stress and anxiety, thinking I’d lost £10k
If you’re making a large transfer, do a test transfer first and test the waters.
Nest, I confidence in you has been somewhat shattered!
