Northbound offered the best price for a 4x4, and although the car was old we had no issues at all. The office is off airport but the collection and drop off was quick and the staff were really friendly.

I chose northbound because, being a local company, I felt they would know best about the type of car, the insurance and so on needed in the country. I was not wrong: apart from the car being spotless, the whole rental process was very easy and lots of information was provided before and during the trip.

This is the worst car rental experience that I have ever had anywhere in the world. My flight was delayed and I arrived at 7:15 pm. The car rental office closes at 6:00 pm a detail that was not disclosed anywhere. We were charged 150 euros extra to get our car or be stranded at the airport. They will claim that I approved of this charge, but my options were pay the charge or be stranded with my family at the airport with out a car. They also say that this is to pay for their employee to come back to work to take care of the situation. The charge was $165 USD on a car rental that was $480 USD. That is some kind of service charge. This kind of extortion is apparently legal in Iceland. Not what I would expect of Iceland or Thrifty. Would give no stars if that was an option. Don’t rent here. Use one of the agencies located at the Keflavic airport.

Northbound made it easy to compare different rental car options. Ofc you can make it cheaper by going directly to the rental company after you've used northbounds filter.
Overall it was a simple tool and I'd use it again.

We have rented a 2022 Dacia Duster with a tent on the rooftop - the vehicle had only driven 60 kilometers:-)
Everything worked fine, including the car reservation, pickup, and return. A shuttle bus provided transportation to and from Northbound, wich was smooth and quick.

2022 Nissan Qashqai Automatic was so comfortable. It fit 2 large suitcases, 1 carry on roller and 4 backpacks in the trunk. It had all the bells and whistles. The gas milage was good and was perfect for my family of 4. Pick up and drop off were fast and smooth.

So much better than any other rental experience I’ve had - and with better priced. So pleased!

Fantastic experience. Quick and easy rental online, a shuttle that picks you up from and drops you off at the airport, with almost no waiting around. Check in for car pickup took only a few mins, drop off took only a few mins. Car was sparkling clean and looked brand new. Charges were exactly as advertised, no hidden fees or hassling to up sell you on extra insurance. Customer service was excellent. And best of all, price was much better than any of the other major/international car rental companies. This is exactly how business should be run, and exactly what a car rental experience should be. My only complaint is that I can't rent from this company when visiting other international countries.

Everything went well with the car. It was essentially brand new, in perfect condition and very clean. The MyCar staff were very helpful. Pick up was simple. A representative met us at the airport and drove us to where we got our car. Drop off was a little more confusing. MyCar had emailed that they changed addresses, which was great, but I didn't have my email readily available. The paperwork listed two different addresses (which should not happen, even if you have to cross off the incorrect one), one of which I could not program into GPS. We went to the other and saw a MyCar sign... but it turns out that was an old sign. (Please take it down!) I ended up calling the office and someone talked my husband through getting there. They were quite helpful and the distance wasn't far, but it was a little nerve wracking when we're trying to catch a flight. If it weren't for this wrinkle at the last minute, everything would have been perfect. Our thanks to the staff who helped us.

Everything was perfect. Good costumer service. All informations were provided in advance. The pick up/drop off worked easy. We were very happy with our car (Dacia Duster). It was very clean and in excelent condition. Great experience!!

Communication before went really well, they were very helpful. Pick-up was a bit difficult due to a bad telephone connection but otherwise very friendly. The car was clean and adequate for what we needed it for. Drop-off went smoothly and a lift to our hotel in stead of the airport was no problem.

Rented a camper van for a week to drive the ring road. Picture online indicated a relatively new model of the vehicle. Our rental was almost a decade old (over 200,000 km on it). I would always expect some variation in make/model when renting but this was a significant difference. Features that have been standard for years were not present. Poorly maintained inside with blinds that did not close, trim falling apart, overhead bed slider broken, lights broken, the main sliding door was incredibly difficult to open from the inside. Immediately due for an oil change. Climate control was broken and only worked at all when on high. Difficulty starting in morning, with glow plug warning lights on. Electrical system not always engaging making acceleration difficult unless van was turned off and on again. We were not given an add-on that we had rented, this was refunded on return but was still frustrating.

This company is a subsidiary of rent.is which is a part of go Iceland. This made finding relevant reviews difficult and airport transportation very confusing. Our shuttle driver initially told us he was not our ride because he was picking up for “rent.is” not “northbound.”

We mentioned mechanical concerns to the company on return. Being stranded in a remote area of Iceland is not something we would want anyone to experience and this vehicle did not seem reliable. They were very dismissive.

Overall the van got us around the country. It was a lot older than other vans we saw on our visit and seemed misrepresented by the company. I would recommend going with another company like Happy Camper. Be aware that when you think you are researching multiple rental options like northbound, go Iceland, and rent.is that they may all be the same company.

Bought fiesta or similar.
Paperwork said Yaris, the actual car was a Mazda 2.
In Iceland cars get chips scratches bumps-at least this one was full of.
When you pick it up make sure you take photos of every inch of the car.
I missed out the windscreen and nearly got charged for a crack that was there at pick up.Another crack was right in front of the driver's view,it was bothering me throughout.
The car mechanically was superb though with great fuel consumption.

Great experience. Everything went well. Good value for money.

Nice car, effective pick-up and drop-off

Straight forward rental process. Helpful staff from Ring rentals with short shuttle to edge of airport. Competitive pricing with a separate insurance provider working on pay and claim. Vehicle was economic to run, setup with winter tyres and a useful iPhone integrating HUD.Not the newest vehicle at 41k with some gravel damage ( to note at start), slightly clunky gear changes and high handbrake lock. A very good vehicle to tour in potentially challenging very changeable conditions.

It was a great experience. Good communication with Northbound, and between them and Go Car rental. Everything was perfect.
