I am writing to express my deep…
I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with Novo Banco's recent decision to reject my application for a bank account, based solely on my Russian origin. While I am aware of the implications of the conflict in Ukraine on Russian residents, I would like to clarify that I have been living and working in Israel for the past eight years, and have established a solid credit rating and a reliable source of income. I applied for a bank account as an Israeli citizen, and I consider myself to be an Israeli citizen with serious ties and primary connections to Israel, not Russia.
I was informed by my immigration agency that the official explanation for the rejection was "no commercial interest." However, both I and my agency believe that the actual reason for the rejection was discrimination based on my national origin. This is further supported by the fact that I have been rejected by several other Portuguese banks as well.
I believe that the decision to reject my application based on my national origin is discriminatory and goes against the principles of fairness and equality. Furthermore, any discrimination against Israeli citizens is not acceptable regardless of their second citizenship. It does not add to one's reputation.
I would like to request that Novo Banco review its decision and reconsider my application based on my qualifications and merits as an individual, without discrimination based on my national origin. I am prepared to take all necessary measures to address this issue, including filing a complaint with the Bank of Portugal and the European Central Bank, as well as taking legal action if necessary.
I hope that Novo Banco will take this matter seriously and act accordingly.
they are so rigid and not up to date…
they are so rigid and not up to date with any trend/digital. Plus they have kept my account there for years (10 years ) when I have never had any money in it but only opened it when join uni to get a university card for free - they told me the acount would be automatically closed if i had never put money in it. so far nothing plus their communication channels are absolutely crap, old school
Avoid Novobanco, it's really that bad
Novobanco is one of the worst banks I've ever interacted with in my life.
I opened an account and they immediately locked it for several months only to close it for no reason afterwards. I never even got to access it.
An absolute clown show, avoid at all costs.
Bad bank
Bad bank, near to criminal. They allow to charge you to anyone with Direct Debit without any real chance to challenge the transaction or get enough information for investigation.
Any information available only in branch, so when you need to act quickly you don't have any opportunity and just loosing your money.
The mobile app is awful.
Support for foreigners is extremely bad.
This bank is indeed terrible
This bank is indeed terrible. The branch I dealt with are in Funchal. I have been trying to correspond with them for months about a Power of Attorney but they are completely incompetent. I will be rasing an official complaint.
TAKE CARE !
TAKE CARE !
Very bad bank.ZERO points.
UNfriendly,near criminal act.
Bad service.

GO HOME.
(Branch Salvaterra de Magos and Santarem)
I have a positive experience with Novo Banko
I have an account at Novo Banko and it's just fine.
Though I had to go through somewhat annoying procedures in order to open the account, their team was friendly and helpful. Using the account on line and through mobile app is quite simple.
When I needed a bank/cashier check, I could issue it at the different branch without any problem and again, the staff was friendly and helpful.
All in all, just a typical European bank.
This is by far the worst experience…
This is by far the worst experience I've ever had in my life for any service provided. It takes them months to validate a signature, they shadow ban transfers on your account which you find out just before payroll and they tell you everything looks good and should work. If you have any issue, even the most minor one, with them - you must go to an office and sign papers (they work till 3PM and no weekends)
Avoid at all cost
Avoid at all cost. I am trying to get my money out of this "bank" since december. It's july and they used all kind of dirty tricks to prevent it.
If I could give -20
If I could give -20, I would. The requirements to open a bank account are from 17th century. They require originals of the documents that only exist in pdf. Like the invoice I send to my clients (proof of income). I send it by email. It doesn’t exist in original. I offered to print it out and sign, but they refused to accept it. Waste of time. Don’t ho there.
This bank is horrendous
This bank is horrendous. No service, employees incompetent, unfriendly and especially lazy. In particular the branch in Setubal. We will file a complaint with the Bank of Portugal and possibly file a lawsuit.
They serve absolutely no purpose.
Do not use this bank.
Don't ever go to this bank
Don't ever go to this bank. They are completely stuck in the last century, they don't speak english, they don't manage to update an adress or to keep a foreign phone number, they don't call you back when you ask for something, they don't respect you, their staff is uneducated, i never saw such a bad bank nor even a bad service. This is a shame to the whole country. Im leaving after 6 years struggling with them just to get a phonecall. It is a scam, a fraud.
Never go to this bank
Never go to this bank, they are stuck in the mid 60's and they will remind you the type of problems people had in the mid 60's
