I’m not sure where to start.
The staff were supportive. Seemed to be understanding of our situation. We approached ocean following an ‘approved’ email for secured loan. In retrospect there were some aspects of the experience that I feel so disappointed with.
The lender:
When I approached ocean they did a search of the lenders on their panel and highlighted Step One Finance Uk. Initially I wasn’t aware of the lender. When I found out I search lenders and found some bad reviews and instantly panicked. I raised concern early on. On my clear score the lender in question only offered a 9/10 chance of acceptance. Later in the process (a couple of days before the decline) I found out that they were the only company willing to lend. Ultimately this confirmed my initial concern that this was a futile process.
Putting the debt together
We have a lot of debt and trying to collate this together was an exhaustive process. I have autism spectrum disorder so it was so easy to miss things. On one occasion a loan was filed as a joint loan. It wasn’t a joint loan but then another loan was actually missed that really impacted affordability. We essentially had more debt that was originally realised. We also had additional income that the lender refused to accept.
Bank statements:
When analysing bank statements 3 months worth of bank statements were used to assess outgoings. The bank statements used were not completely reflective of how we live our lives. I think given opportunity to provide more statements over a more prolonged period would have identified this and potentially allowed for more context with further explanation.
Terminology:
I felt there was a lot of talk throughout the application about the outcome. Account details were provided to cover loans that were to be paid off. There was talk about the final process and time frames were given as to the completion of the application. This really did raise a lot of false hope. Early on I was told that the application was failing in affordability - but then I was informed that because of the potential impact for us it was worth continuing with the application. The emotional impact this had over the months was significant.
What I’d say in relation to emails is review the email sent to customers. As opposed to sending an approved email, send a different one that identifies pre approval pending further checks.
I think overall, there are some parts of this that really disappoint me. I’ll never use the service again. The staff seemed supportive at times despite the actual outcome not being what we’d hoped for. Using the app wasn’t a great experience - a couple of messages also got ignored. I think in the end, despite some discussion, there was no hope of any commission - I am truly sorry about that. Absolutely gutted.

Ive been expected and activated my card I think on line im not shure how use it i wanted as spoke on line to use to get money out for my daughter wedding as a surprise it says wrong pin in the cash withdrawal im comfused how use this i still cant use the card mr Lowe

I find the card very youthful. For me. It helps us helps me For emergencies. But I don't think 200 pounds enough. I wouldn't like my card to be increased. If possible. Because I want to go on holiday. In July. I don't have quite enough money. Other than that. I think the card is great.

Tried making my first payment twice after activating my card. The transaction was declined twice on the basis that the vendor does not deal with your company. I tried transferring the funds to my bank account so I can pay with my debit card, but your company was charging 3% + 35% interest, + taking a few days to do it.
It was easier to get another card online and pay from it.
You should publish a list of those companies you dont deal with and your card cannot be used with them

I like the fact they tell you every time you use the card what you spent and got left and when I rang up asking about my pin number she was good and helped me find it on the app
