Before trusting ex sunnova CEO with your…

Before trusting this man with your home energy system, I’d encourage you to look into what happened at his last company.
I was a Sunnova Energy PPA customer. I’m a 100% permanently disabled Navy veteran. Over the course of more than a year, I made multiple documented requests to enroll in Sunnova’s AutoPay system. Each time, their representatives failed to properly set it up. Because I believed autopay was active, I had no idea payments weren’t being drafted. By the time I found out, seven late payment marks had been reported to the credit bureaus.
When I discovered the problem, I paid every balance immediately and began escalating. They opened four separate Their own Issue Resolution Specialist acknowledged in writing that their records showed I had requested autopay. Another representative opened a goodwill letter case and explicitly acknowledged “the damage done to your credit score.” The complaint was escalated to their executive team. A Senior Issue Resolution Specialist was assigned. None of them fixed it. Not one.
The damage was real. My Navy Federal Credit Union refinance application was denied specifically because of the credit score damage caused by Sunnova’s reporting errors. That denial cost me financially in ways I’m still dealing with today.
In my experience, Sunnova’s business model was predatory. Long-term contracts that follow the property, billing systems that conveniently malfunction, and a resolution process designed to exhaust you into silence. I believe elderly homeowners and military families are particularly vulnerable to this kind of arrangement because the contracts are complex, the PPA obligations transfer with the home, and the customer service infrastructure is built to deflect rather than resolve.
He resigned as Sunnova’s CEO in March 2025. Three months later, Sunnova filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy with $8.9 billion in debt, laying off over half its workforce. The company’s assets were sold off. The ex ceo then immediately launched Otovo USA — a company that, by his own description, targets the very customers his old company abandoned.

6 months and still not working – extremely poor after-sales support

I had a solar system installed by Otovo Portugal, and unfortunately my experience with their after-sales support has been extremely poor.
Since September 2025 I have been reporting that the production meter (“contador totalizador”) installed as part of the system is not communicating with E-Redes, which means the system is not correctly reporting the energy production data required under Portuguese regulations.
Despite reporting this issue repeatedly through the correct channels the problem has still not been resolved six months later.
During this time I have:
Answered the same diagnostic questions multiple times
Confirmed the SIM card specifications requested by Otovo
Verified with MEO (the SIM provider) that the M2M SIM card is active and working
Received multiple notifications from E-Redes confirming that the production meter is still not communicating
Instead of resolving the issue Otovo continues to ask the same questions that were already answered months ago while no technician has been sent to inspect the installation.
This issue is also costing me a significant amount of money. Because the production data is not being transmitted to E-Redes, my electricity supplier cannot receive the required information to apply the solar self-consumption rates to my electricity bills. As a result I have been paying the full electricity tariff since October despite having a solar system installed.
I have raised this financial impact with Otovo several times but there has still been no resolution and no clear timeline for fixing the problem.
For a company selling renewable energy systems, reliable after-sales support is essential and Otovo has completely failed in this regard.
At this stage I am seriously considering cancelling the service entirely as I have lost confidence in Otovo’s ability to properly support the systems they install.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Otovo.

OTOVO DOES NOT RESPOND TO CUSTOMER…

OTOVO DOES NOT RESPOND TO CUSTOMER REQUESTS AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO CONTACT THEM - NO email replies, no telephone number and the web site contact them does not work unless you have a ticket number etc. Wow how deplorable. Below is my email that has not been answered.

I have sent many email messages to Otovo regarding concerns with our solar panel installation. I also received a phone call from an Otovo representative claiming she will help me. Unfortunately I never received a reply after her initial call. I did advise her of our Otovo solar panel name and installation. She advised us that she had no information about us. I sent email information.messages to Luis at Otovo and he advised he could not see any problems. We responded by advising Otovo designed the specifications for the panels and the installation yet they can not advise us why our power company invoice has not decreased yet our consumption has remained stable with no fluctuations and the power company rate has not changed significantly. Otovo advised after the installation our power invoice would be lower. One of our questions is are the 8 panels sufficient to meet our needs? Whe are alarmed that Otovo has not responded to our latest emails about the installation. It is very difficult to communicate with Otovo. Why? send me information via email yet I cannot respond.

Unprofessional, unresponsive company

It's been over a month when fault was detected in the inverter. Otovo then went silent and has refused to respond to emails, messages. It's totally unprofessional and the only way left is to dismantle the system and buy a new one. What a pathetic performance and bad consumer treatment.

After sales service absolutely…

After sales service absolutely appalling,they take days if not weeks to respond to faults, then deny any responsibility. Example when raining the electric cuts out , I believe due to a short in panel installed.the answer is get a qualified electrician at my cost to solve the problem. I wonder if I need to then pay for putting it right

I contacted Otovo from an advertisement…

I contacted Otovo from an advertisement in August 2025 for a quote, which I received. I then agreed to a visit in mid September. In October, I contacted to find out why the visit did not take place. The first email I sent was returned stating no such address. I telephoned. I was told the member of staff who had contacted me had left. There did not seem to be any follow-up. The original quote and drawings I did not consider would work because the sun would be blocked.. I was told that a visit was no longer possible. I sent photos and asked for suggestions for the panels in a different part of the roof. Nobody has answered those emails. There does not seem to be any way of contacting customer service. The contact number in their email is not answered, just cuts off after one minute. Terrible service

Received a phone call from a sales manager who was very helpful. I asked a few questions and received very good answer. The quotes seemed very reasonable. I will spend a few days looking over them.

After initial interest request completed on their webpage received a very nice phone call from someone from presales. She arranged a return call for 16.30 that day. At 17.50 the same day still no call. Tried ringing them but disconnected immediately. Not sure what is going on but not a very good start

From the planning to the installation 5*

From the planning to the installation, it took some time (about a month) to get the panels in place but it all went smoothly as the planning was done properly the installer brought all the materials, they were flexible with small adjustments that I requested and fast to complete the technical installation.
I do recommend it to anyone and I'm really happy with all the process and outcome.

OTOVO is a company you can trust

I've had my solar panels for a year now and I've found them to be excellent. The installation was fast and very professional and they worked extremely hard to very high standards. Milena Barbosa was my OTOVO sales person and she was excellent in every respect. She answered all my questions and if I called her and she wasn't available, she called me back almost immediately. Very professional and friendly too. The Shine App that works with my Growat inverter is really good. Easy to use and provides all the information you will ever need. Overall, I highly recommend OTOVO and I am so glad I chose them

Good Experience with this company and its installers …

We had a complete solar system installed by Otovo in the Algarve. The experience was a very good one overall. We had a lot of questions which were all answered before installation and a project manager recommended appropriate panels and a battery and inverter. The quote was detailed and transparent and considerably less that the quote from our electricity provider who first pitched to us! A sub contracted company to Otovo installed the system and we were very impressed. They came on a very windy day, so struggled with getting the panels up in the face of a biting East wind but they worked the whole day, likewise the manager installing the plant in the cellar also worked tirelessly and knew his job.

The installation team also came in another day to install a back up box and although grappling with a very tight conduit for the wires, they persevered and got the job done. The system is all working well, all the documentation was handed to us and we are already saving money. We only give four stars because one question we had was answered incorrectly as it turned out later on, but that was rectified by the company quickly and to our satisfaction. I do recommend Otovo and their installers.

Company is shocking and does not support you.. DONT TRUST THEM.

Company was prompt and quick to take my money.

I am 6 months from date of installation and I am still sitting with an incomplete system..

The installers that otovo used had no idea what they where doing and luckily I knew enough to pick up multiple issues... 1. Panels installed all at different heights from roof 2. Only 1 Pv string was used for east and west panels combined... 3. Multiple broken tiles 4. Installers came back 4 times to fix installation and still not correct.

I noticed my bill tripled in KW and I took it into my own hands to test everything... only to find that the main wiring from Inverter was crossed (blue and black) causing tripping and massive amounts of leakage into the grid... THIS HAS STILL NOT BEEN RESOLVED

THE MAIN INVERTER DIFF SWITCH DOES NOT WORK.. HARDWAREBFAULT

Leonardo has now just passed the issue onto auditors on the 20th December 2024 and today.. 31st Jan 2025... still no contact.. he said he will try again..

There support and outsourcing of installers is shocking

Installed 3 August 2024 and today still not working .

I have requested they refund, based on lack of service and incomplete system.. 6 months is way to long for this type of install.

I'm not happy at all

UPDATE:2/12/2025

Otovo Staff Member has now informed me they have lost access to my system and cannot help me until they can get acces again. I have followed there instructions, which does not match what i have. When i do explain it with text and images, they still ask for the same thing.

1) Still no Audit Company
2) Solar system still Offline 0w
3) Differitail switch does not work
4) Cabling wrong and electrical wiring crossed
5) Solar panels installed with different levels/heights on roof
6) east panels cables hanging loose underneath panels
7) Trunking used inside is already falling apart
8) Leakage from PV system tripping house
9) NEW ISSUE: The panels mounts where installed wrong and tide extra tight bending the panels, one mount as popped out of place because of the extra tension.

The list goes on and on

Good evening Manuel,
the reason for my writing is, to tell you how impressed I have been with these 2 fellows from Oak Charger,who installed the system. Not only are these men very polite, but the workmanship is simply very impressive.To work on a roof in these temperatures is no walk in the park, but they worked long hours and very efficiently!
I also would like to mention, it all started with the sales lady Milena as well as Sarah.
I can nothing but praise the company and everybody I had contact with! I will also recommend Otovo to friends and neighbours!.
