Profiteering company

Ordered 1000 litres at 56ppl on the Saturday Patterson delivered on Thursday mid morning and said they were only allowed to give every customer 500 litres as a directive from Boilerjuice. Boilerjuice had no record of this and Patterson gave them the excuse that driver had run out of oil. However driver then spent next 20 mins in a layby on our lane and then drove off as he saw me approaching. They were profiteering, delivering 500 litres but able to sell rest for over a £1 per litre. Be warned, this is not a reputable company

At the time of your delivery we were advised by our suppliers at the terminal that product availability was limited. As Patterson Oil lifts fuel directly from the terminal rather than holding bulk stock, this meant the amount of oil available to us was temporarily restricted.

To manage this situation responsibly we made the decision, with the approval of BoilerJuice, to limit deliveries so that as many customers as possible could receive some supply rather than some customers receiving none. Your delivery of 500 litres formed part of that temporary allocation.

This decision was also made in line with our Terms and Conditions of Sale, which state:

“The Seller shall not be responsible for any failure to make deliveries if fulfilment has been delayed, hindered or prevented by circumstances outside the Seller’s reasonable control.”

Our terms also provide that where supply is limited or disrupted, the Seller reserves the right to reduce or partially fulfil orders and allocate available product between customers.

Patterson Oil is not a profiteering company and this temporary measure was taken purely to ensure fair distribution of limited supply to customers during a period of disruption. Customers were only charged for the quantity actually delivered.

Coping with the winter snow

Patterson had to cancel my delivery due to the terrible snow and ice. I was worried as our oil was really low but they managed to deliver the following day even though it was a Saturday and with still a lot of ice around. Great job.

Patterson Oil & Boiler Juice - Pure incompetence!

I buy through Boiler Juice and my last 4 deliveries have been from Patterson Oil. This time it went very badly wrong and no one at Patterson Oil or Boiler Juice is taking any responsibility.
I ordered 3,000 litres of heating oil and their driver delivered 717 litres into the bund via the venting pipe rather than into the oil tank. It then overflowed and he drove off, claiming that the tank was full. We were then unable to have a follow up delivery into the actual tank because the vent would not vent as it was full of oil. It took Patterson Oil eleven days to clear the bund and this was only done because I located a company who could do it for them. The result of their incompetence is that my boiler failed (it took 3 days for a plumber to establish the cause and get it sorted), we have spilt oil, no heating oil and I have been charged for the experience by Boiler Juice. When challenged neither company will take responsibility nor refund me for the 717 litres of incorrectly delivered oil. Shocking! The entire experience has been incredibly stressful and when it happened I was on holiday in Morocco visiting my daughter and it absolutely ruined the last 3 days of my stay.
29th October - since the oil disaster described above the bund has been cleared but Patterson Oil have not been in touch nor answered any of my calls or messages other than to advise through Boiler Juice that they are not prepared to deliver the balance of the original order. In any other world they would be in breach of contract but I suspect that they will wriggle and squirm off the hook and continue to be allowed to trade with very little control over their actions. They have not even cleaned up the oil that they spilt! Who knew that the Energy Ombudsman doesn't cover off the grid energy!
29th October - I received a phone call from Lyndsey, the General Manager who has confirmed that the payment made for the oil incorrectly poured into the bund would be refunded. Whoopee! But also that despite the delivery being a disaster and completely the fault of Patterson Oils they were not prepared to deliver the outstanding balance of oil. They have agreed to pay the cost of our plumber which is welcome news. I should also add that she has accused me of blackening the name of Patterson Oils which I disagree with. In my opinion I am merely reporting an ongoing event but because of this they have spat their dummy out and refused to have any more to do with us. Is a contract no longer legally binding?
As of 11th February 2026 they still have not reimbursed the cost of our plumber (despite assurances from Lyndsey that they would) and if you read what they have written in response you will see that they try to twist everything to make it look as if it was our fault that they were incapable of delivering the oil correctly. I will be taking them to small claims court and feel that they have had long enough to try and resolve this issue.

We’re very sorry to read this review and for the upset caused. After a full internal investigation, we’re satisfied that our team acted quickly and responsibly once the delivery issue was identified.

As soon as we became aware of the mistake, we offered to remove the oil from your bund the very next working day. Unfortunately, we were informed that we could not return to the property until you returned from holiday, which delayed the clean-up.

You later advised that the removal would cost £500, however after speaking directly with your heating engineer, we were quoted £200 for the same service. At no point did either Patterson Oil or BoilerJuice refuse a refund — in fact, we confirmed the reimbursement for the oil and your plumber’s costs once details were verified.

Throughout the process, communication proved difficult, with several calls and messages going unanswered. This review has also been edited multiple times, with the narritive being changed, each time alerting our team.

At Patterson Oil, we always strive to do the right thing by our customers. The vast majority of our deliveries go smoothly, and we take great pride in providing a reliable, friendly, and customer-focused service across all our depots.

On this occasion, given the challenges faced and the breakdown in communication, we have chosen not to continue supplying this customer. However, we want to reassure our many loyal customers that when issues do arise, we take full responsibility and work hard to resolve them quickly and fairly.

Brilliant service

We have used this company at least 5 times, they have never let us down. The drivers are all very polite and helpful never a problem. You get an email the day before your delivery and if you call the morning of your delivery they tell you how many deliveries the driver has done and where you are on the list. Would not switch to another company.

all round good

Friendly, helpful, prompt, and fair price. Patterson stepped in after another supplier let us down and we ran out of heating oil. I will be using them in future.
