All the course does it get people to look for repeated patterns in songs which any Chord Progression course could do. Overhyped.

Hi, I'm Mark Morley-Fletcher. I created Play In The Zone because most musicians struggle with two things: performance anxiety and falling well short of their potential when they perform. I provide practical, actionable advice and support on both of these - particularly through my course: Unlock Your Performance.

Great site for working on the mental side of making music
Great and competent site to work on the mental side of effectively practicing music, of dealing with your - justified or less justified - self-assessments and self-talks, and of successfully performing your music in groups, ensembles or in public - even when under emotional pressure or suffering from performance anxiety.
The site, the regularly arriving emails and lesson pages, as well as the related discussion forums are very interactive and you always have, or can have, direct contact with Mark himself, the courses' provider and instructor.
Especially interesting is the 6-week Bootcamp, where you put the theory into practice, including submitting weekly a performance video, in which you play a tune while addressing specific mental topics and issues for feedback by Mark and forum members.
Very much recommended!

I’m thoroughly enjoying this course which is giving me insights on how to improve my playing.
The Real Deal
I am not a fan of a lot of internet courses as I feel many of them over promise and under deliver while employing a lot of objectionable marketing strategies.
However Play In The Zone offers a lot of very useful content which requires you to put a fair bit of time and effort into in order to benefit. In other words it is not a quick fix but a solid course with a lot of support built into it to enable you to get the maximum benefit. I think this course is the real deal and if the descriptions appeal to you then I would say go ahead and subscribe - what you see is what you get. In fact you will probably get more than you expected.
Playing better already
I have been through the series of Play In The Zone's UYP-courses, and already, the many pearls of wisdom have had a positive influence on my practising and playing.
I look forward to cementing these skills when I sign up for the Bootcamp.
Further, I feel a quantum improvement in my attitude to handling playing errors.
Thanks, Mark!
Changing the Mind Set
All of the lessons, exercises, famous quotes and other helpful information served to change my approach to practicing and performing music, for the better. I started seeing results quickly and I am excited for what comes next!

Becoming the musician you want to be
This is a well thought out course based upon modern and proven coaching techniques to improve focus, concentration, confidence and performance for all musicians. I feel I got value for my money and my performance in front of audiences and while recording has significantly improved, You need to do the work but support is there.

I have enjoyed and benefited from the Up Your Performance program. The lessons are well organized and cover the various topics comprehensively. Especially nice are the quotes from well-known musicians, athletes and others that illustrate points being made by Mark. This connects us all to a wider world of personal endeavor that is encouraging and inspiring.
A intensive course to help musicians play better
This very intensive course gives musicians of all levels insights and guidelines for learning to address problems that cause them to play less well than they could, particularly in performance, but helps in building confidence for all. There is a 6 week Bootcamp when you have definite tasks and assignments to complete and a recording to make and share. There is a lot to learn and assimilate but that will continue after this period. There is good response to questions from the organiser and a forum for sharing experiences and encouraging each other.
A knowledgeable and Accommodating Teacher
I found that Mark was very knowledgeable and very forthright and very accomodating in the course. There were times when I could not complete things in time and he was very patient. His expertise is superior!
Inspiring and helpful course
This is the course to take if you have been struggling with nerves while performing, but also to build up a positive mindset before and after performing. The learning videos are not too long so you can keep your focus while learning. I would absolutely recommend this to other musicians struggling with nerves as it has helped me thus far.
An intelligent way to improve your playing
This course really makes a difference.
It's well structured, accessible, and contains a wide range of content for musicians.
I haven't finished the practical elements yet but several people have already commented that my playing has improved.
It's a course that brings sophisticated sports psychology to amateur musicians. Small changes to thought processes can make a huge difference!
Time and money well-spent
Play in the Zone—Unlock Your Performance was so helpful that I am reading and watching all of the material for a second time.
Rather than focusing on specific tunes or musical exercises, the course offers a strong and practical “back story”: the importance of training the mind to use practice time efficiently and to reflect on achievements, however small. Clearly, these ideas are much easier to talk and write about than to put into daily practice, but the practice must be done in order to benefit from the teaching.
This course can be useful to musicians at any level—if they are open to suggestions and willing to try new approaches to their art. As a bonus, the course can be adapted easily to endeavors other than music, up to and including the challenges of daily life. All in all, time and money well-spent.
I am giving this course 5 stars because…
I am giving this course 5 stars because I got so much out of it. I've been trying to figure out my issues with playing smoothly and with confidence and this course absolutely helped me to improve in those areas. I had several ahas (light bulbs going on in my head) while taking this course as well. One aha was on how to relax without that awareness of being tense distracting me from my playing. I found the homework to be very helpful and some of the community interactions were also helpful. I found it easier to just do the homework and post it. At first, I did post some interactive comments but then I just focused on the course itself and the homework. It was nice to have the interaction but not absolutely necessary since Mark did a great job in both answering the questions I had and encouraging me on my progress through the course. At first, I lost track of how to do the postings but then I figured it out. The recordings were an immense help. I took lots of notes and highlighted the areas I felt were important to remember. I also liked how the course progressed but kept using a lot of the earlier teachings. For me, I need constant reminders of how the earlier lessons in the course fit in with the later ones. I think this will help me retain the information a lot longer in the future. Thanks, Mark for a great course.

Great combination of theory and practice
In the course you get a lot of theoretical information but also lots of exercises, tips and help to translate it into daily work. That’s extremely helpful.
I’m not through the whole course yet but I already benefit from it.
In case of administrative issues the reply is fast and helpful too.
UYP has been a great experience
UYP has been a great experience, wish I had unlocked this years ago. Mark in an excellent coach with plenty of god ideas, and the the course has helped me to enjoy performing piano in a new way with focus on the music rather on myself. Highly recommended.
I’m new to play in the zone
I’m new to play in the zone. I’m taking it slowly and hopefully surely.
Early days for me, although optimistic. Finding the approach interesting. It is also helpful in other areas of my life.

Thanks to Mark Morley-Fletcher I am playing at a level I never dreamt I could. Having been a Real Estate Agent/Business Owner for the past 35 out of 45 years I am used to training and counting numbers of things to do to double your income etc etc when skill training and that certainly worked and when I re-started playing the cello 9 years ago I was mindful of this. BUT the magic of music eluded me - it was not in my playing. Mark has Unlocked this within my soul. Unlock Your Performance seemed a little complicated at first - lots of things to think about but as the days go by I find they have become part of my every day practice habits and rituals... now part way through Practice Multiplier my progress is rapid - I now look forward to the time I spend in practice - it always called to me but was often dutiful habit now it is a pleasure as I absorb the background steps of Mark's tuition.. my husband now asks to play for him what I have been through each day - thank you BIG time Mark!

I am enjoying the course that Mark has created. It has given me a different insight into how to play music but the skills I have learnt are useful in other areas of my life as well. Thanks Mark.
