My bad experience at the check in counter, ORD airport, USA

My bad experience happened over 1 year ago, 24 Sep 2017. But still in my memory.

I booked flight to fly from ORD airport to Bangkok, Thailand, layover in Doha. I arrived the check in counter late due to the delay of my domestic flight from Michigan that I could not avoid the late arrival at different airport. Also the Qatar Airways rescheduled to leave about 25 min earlier after I already booked domestic and international flights. I had been panicked when I arrived the closed check in counter and I realized I was late. The plane will leave in about 50 min. One young guy at the ORD airport helped me to contact the check in counter staff. I was very impressed. I had waited about 10 min. Then the check in counter staff showed up. I tried to explain her my domestic flight arrived late at the Midway Airport and I had to take CTA trains to come to ORD airport. She stated unkindly that I need to arrive the counter 2 hr before departure time and tried to sell me the next day expensive ticket without offering me to the next day flight. She told me I missed the flight. I had felt bad. My guess is that since I hadn't checked in yet, they gave the seat to someone else. I had been stressed and panicked at the airport and finally I made decision to buy new cheaper ticket to fly with different airline.

I found out later that there is 2 hour late rule that most airlines put missing flight passengers standby to next day flights with no charges or fees. I arrived the airport after check in counter closed but the plane did not depart yet. So my family, friends, and I will never book flights or fly with Qatar Airways again. Very bad check in staff who did not follow 2 hr late rule.

No chance to stretch the leg. A big box is mounted on the floor under most of the seats

Claim 4. of April 2013
...just returned from Saigon via Doha to Copenhagen (QR605/QR085 seat 25A/28A). 15 hours of fighting with a big metal box under the seat and no chance to stretch the leg for a minute. Quite a pain for so many hours of flying.
A couple of questions:
What is the purpose of this box ? It cannot be for comfort of the passengers ?
How do I avoid these boxes if I ever fly Qatar Airlines again ?
How can you charge full price for these seats ?

1 star airline - no compensation after 48 hour delay due to flight cancellation

Our flight was delayed by 48 hour and during this time we were installed at a hotel without any contact number to Quatar Airways, not knowing what happened. At the hotel we were only allowed one glas of wine at dinner and one soft drink for lunch, the food was left overs and sandwiches, not other beverages was offered.

Due to this 48 hour delay we are entitled to a compensation of 600 EUR by EU regulation, but Quatar Airways are beyond the law and ignores this right. They didn't inform of our rights to compensation, catering and accommodation in writing when the flight was cancelled as requested by law.
