5 Stars! Pure Bliss Experience! Amazing Support & Tech! Great Product

Rainforest API was a life saver when we were trying to find a similar solution online. Never thought such a legit stable solution existed earlier.

Their support is one of the best I've seen till date. I wanted an extra data point in one of their APIs. I thought I'll create a support ticket and was almost 100% sure that its going to go in their product pipeline like every other similar software/ SaaS companies. Still thought of giving it a try.

I did not even have a drop a support ticket. I just dropped a one line note and they implemented the feature and had in production within 15 minutes. That's the quickest I've seen in my lifetime.

They do seem to have strong tech infra, stack & structure for getting such things up and running in minutes.

Kudos! A definite recommend for anyone who wants an API for Amazon.

The API never goes down

The API never goes down, and when I want something added the team is wildly quick in implementing. When I've needed trouble-shooting assistance they are always available and quick to assist/meet me where I'm at in my trouble-shooting

Used for a student project

I used the Rainforest API for a learning how to code project. As a beginning coder, I really appreciated the clear, easy to understand documentation and interactive API call explorer feature in the customer dashboard.

Impressive service, some technical issues to resolve though

UPDATE:

I have to say I'm pretty impressed with how much time and effort RainForest took to deal with my concerns. So I'll change my review to a positive one to appreciate their staff's efforts.

Technically, I'm still not 100% satisfied, because I still believe you can outsource all this headache with pagination to your own tools. For instance, your endpoint could simply get the number of reviews available and automatically get that number of responses back. If the user is afraid it'll take too long time, they can limit the number of maximum reviews they want to get and choose the sorting option (e.g. 1000 most popular or 1000 most recent). I implemented it using your API, so I don't see why you couldn't offer it as a ready-made solution. It took us hours of development time, so while the $49 refund won't cover this extra work, it is appreciated.

Anyway, I hope you hear this feedback and improve your service.

On a related note, it would be nice if you synchronized all your different APIs. For instance, in the RainForest one you call them "collections", in the other one you have (SerpWow I believe) you call them "batches".

OLD REVIEW:

I don't want you to send me those unsolicited emails any longer. Please, stop with this crap. I subscribed because I wanted to use your service, now I'm getting an email every day. Just stop.

Regarding the service itself — I don't understand why you can't automatically parse as many pages as I want in one request. I don't care that you have to scrape yourself each page with 10 results. If I want to have 1000 I want to have 1000 at once. Why do I have to run your stupid collections for that or make 100 parallel requests at once? Isn't this what your service is about, make it easier? Otherwise, I'll simply get an external rotating proxy and build a scraper myself. It's like 20 times cheaper than your service, so you have to figure something out about that.

Hi,

Thanks for your candid feedback and we're very sorry you've had a bad experience with us. As you can see from our other reviews, it's not typical of the service we deliver.

As a goodwill gesture we have refunded your full monthly service fee!

*Nothing* is more important to us than happy clients, so we’re keen to put this right :-)

Emails
-------
The emails you refer to are, ironically, being sent to you by Trustpilot because, during a previous support chat between us, you rated the response our support team gave as “Great”.

You also have a Zendesk support email address on your side set up as the email address on your Rainforest API account. We think this is also causing issues as it’s meaning a support ticket is being raised one your side every time Rainforest sends you an email. We’d suggest changing that to a personal email address instead - that way emails from Rainforest won’t open tickets in your Zendesk implementation.

Further - you can opt out of email by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of the email Trustpilot sends you and you will never receive email from Trustpilot again. We have done this on your behalf.

You can also entirely disable any email communication from us by disabling Update Emails on the Rainforest Dashboard, although we’d recommend you keep that enabled so you hear about service updates.

Pagination
------------
With regards your question on pagination; you should make a request for page 1, the API will then tell you if a subsequent page is available and you may request page 2.

It is implemented in this way due to the indeterminate number of pages that are available, which is only known at the point the request is run.

With regards Collections - we are a bit confused as to why you consider them "stupid". They are specifically designed for automating large volumes of requests and are used by thousands of customers daily.

Had you reached out to us we would have been very happy to share elements of our future roadmap specifically around automatic pagination which would address the question you raise on "getting 1000 pages at once". We have followed up with you via email, but suffice to say it is a little more complicated than you describe and we want to get the feature right, rather than releasing something prematurely.

Customers rely on getting responses of an approximate size, within an approximate timeframe. Let’s take your example of 1000 pages - that would likely generate many MB of response, run over multiple minutes. This would be highly likely to break customer implementations, trigger client side timeouts etc. There is also the question of maintaining session state between the invocations to ensure a correct pagination.

All solvable problems of course, but not so straightforward that it should be done without due thought as to the consequences.

Our internal plan is to release an “Automatic Pagination” endpoint designed specifically for this purpose. You could think of it as a kind-of dynamic runtime Collections that can be created on-demand.

This will deal with the use-case you describe, along with many others such as token-based pagination where a token from page 1 is required to access page 2.

It is a common request, but we want to take the time to ensure it is implemented robustly.

As is hopefully evident from the other reviews we love working closely with our customers to implement new features and additions to the API. In future please feel free to reach out to us as we'll be only to happy to work with you, or update you on our internal roadmap (which in this instance contains items to address the very use-case you describe!).

All the best,

The Rainforest API Team

Fast and easy, even more a novice coder

Fast and easy, I was able to get all of the information I needed through Python, while also getting my non-technical team on board through their desktop API app. Great stuff, and super excited to keep using their services into the future!
