A useful supplier of Navitron Solar evacuated tubes & control system
I decided to experiment with Solar evacuated tubes for hot water on my bungalow in 2021.
Having read a bit about the theory, I sourced a supplier based in North Wales. It would have been good to meet him but at the time this was not possible. However, I spoke to him on the phone and was convinced to have go with the system.
We ordered a 30 Navitron evacuated tube collector, Pump, Expansion vessel and Electronic control unit which cost around £1500. Two spare tubes were supplied which was also appreciated.
I installed the pipework and ran up the system. Initial results are encouraging - one sunny day has generated a cylinder tank temperature increase of around 25 degrees C; as its still February, the results are varied. I am hoping that the thermal output will improve with the Spring and Summer sun.
A couple of criticisms. The delivery charge is steep at £400 and almost put me off the project.
There are very little coherent instructions or paperwork provided. The control panel instructions are poor. The equipment could do with a suggested schematic as a minimum, and a summary one page explanation would have saved rerouting pipework and a lot of fiddling about. Be warned that the system needs pressurisation to about 2 Bar in order to work properly.
I will update the review once we have had the benefit of the summer season.
