Rent From Locals: Car Rental in Albania & Greece Reviews 

The car pick-up parking lot is close to the airport. The service upon arrival was very attentive. The car was similar to the one we wanted and worked very well.

We were absolutely delighted to use Rent From Locals for our stay in Albania. Everything was smooth and well organized from start to finish, and we had zero issues.

We rented two different types of cars from two different users. In both cases, the cars we chose based on the photos were very different from the overall condition of the vehicles we actually received.
The first car had a broken fender, and when we returned it, they tried to keep the $100 deposit. The car had scratches, and the upholstery and ceiling were stained, dirty, and generally worn and poorly maintained, both inside and out.
The second car already had two warning lights illuminated on the dashboard when we received it.
The price is affordable, but you should keep in mind that any unexpected issues can end up being much more expensive.

One not so pleasant suprise was, that the owner informed us that we need to pay a fine if we bring the car back dirty. This was not in the rental agreement.
The car was not in the best shape - airbag warning on, one winter tire etc.
The owner was overall pretty nice, and there were no complications overall.

My low rating is only because of the car we received

We booked one car but it was not available, so we had to accept a different one because there were no other options
Unfortunately the car was clearly in poor condition even though it was still drivable
The price we paid was very high considering the condition of the car (it was almost half of the car’s purchase price rather than a reasonable rental price)
Warning lights kept appearing on the dashboard which made us worried that something might break down
The car also had a very small fuel tank, so we had to refuel approximately every 150 km
Since we rented the car mainly for long-distance trips this was quite inconvenient and stressful, as we constantly had to look for another gas station

As for communication, everything was good
They were always available, responded quickly, and helped us whenever we needed

The car was as promised — in good condition, and worked well. The pickup location is not at the airport but a short distance away. The Google Maps location was misleading and showed the wrong place. Dropp off very convinient.

Although the car was booked in advance, the pickup process took well over an hour. I would also have expected the pickup instructions to be sent by email, but they were sent via WhatsApp instead. Since all other information and booking confirmations had arrived by email, I had no idea I should be checking WhatsApp.

Overall, it’s an affordable and good option if you have time to wait.

Great service, super sweet owners, overall a great experience

The car had more than 300k km. The lights didnt work. The fuel indicator didnt work properly and we didnt know the amount of fuel pending. We were told we had full insurance but we didnt had any insurance papers nor insurance phone contact in case of breakdown,which was rather probable. He wanted to charge us extra for not cleaning the vehicle

Great service. Fast pick up and even got a child seat in last 10 minutes without reservation, really helped out friends with that.

The car shown in the photos when I made the booking was not even the car I received. On top of that, the car had a lot of problems: several warning lights were on the dashboard, and there were significant power issues while driving. Overall, it was a really bad experience, and I am very disappointed with the service.

I rented a used Hyundai with some dents and scratches. It was drivable, but not very clean and still had items left by the previous renter. Even knowing it was a used car, I expected better cleanliness. The suspension also felt like it needed maintenance.
The biggest issues:
• On the last day of the rental, the AC stopped working. It was extremely hot in Tirana, and driving without AC was miserable.
• My kids left their tablet in the car. The company found it and messaged me on WhatsApp saying they would ship it to me, but it’s been over a month and I’ve heard nothing since.
On the positive side, check-in and check-out were very flexible, and the staff were friendly.

Good experience. Easy to collect the car and to return the car. Direct contact with the operator (Mirjan), always fast to answer to all the questions and always ready to give support.

What a nightmare! I didn’t get the car I’d paid for. I’d asked for sat-nav and the extras, but the new car had no sat-nav, the Bluetooth wasn’t working, the USB charger cable wasn’t working… and the car broke down right in the middle of the motorway. The hire company acted in very bad faith and refused to acknowledge that the model (which I hadn’t asked for!) they’d hired to me was in very poor condition and faulty. No refund was given. That was the first and last time I’ll ever use them.

Pathetic experience!
Given the wrong car at first. Had to wait 2 hours to get the right one after a lot of arguments.
Handing over the car they bring up a fine saying the car was parked somewhere ( North Albania) when we went to the south. Would not recommend
