Rent From Locals: Car Rental in Albania & GreeceReviews 

The car was not suitable for the Albanian roads which almost all are mountainous. I wish the company would give advice to the clients not to rent this car to the specific routes. It was hell to go to Himare, because the car could go only 30-40 km/h to the hill. We didnt know that almost all roads are steep.Also, company asked additional money for the car cleaning - we used a lot of rental cars in different countries, but we have never paid additionally for the cleaning.

Excellent rental experience. Very clean and new car, easy to book online, airport pick up with different drop location was very helpful form our itinerary.

• Dishonest from the start. The car was changed at the last minute, with no real transparency or clear explanation. They gave me a different vehicle and acted as if that was completely normal.
• Insurance added at the last minute. They also pushed an insurance on me at the very last moment, which added an extra €100 to the bill, without being properly explained upfront.
• No physical check-out. At the return, there was no in-person check-out with someone present to inspect the car with me. That means no proper verification, no solid proof, just their version afterward.
• Useless insurance in practice. They sell you a so-called insurance, but in reality it does not even cover the tyres. So when the problem happened, I found myself almost completely unprotected, with a policy full of exclusions that mainly serve to make you pay.
• They already had a deposit cheque. Despite already holding a security deposit, they still managed to add €209 more, bringing the total to €309 for one wheel. That is completely abusive. We are not talking about a destroyed car here, but a tyre/wheel, and they still inflated the charge as if they were just trying to make money off the customer.
• A completely disproportionate amount. €309 for one wheel, on top of an existing deposit, is hard to justify as anything other than overcharging. There was no real transparency and no honest commercial logic behind it.
• Rent From Locals will not help you. The worst part is that they hide behind the excuse: “it’s between you and the renter.” In other words, they take the booking, take the payment, let things happen, and then disappear as soon as a dispute starts.
• No customer protection. When everything goes well, everything is fine. But as soon as there is a problem, you are left alone dealing with a renter who can demand almost anything, with no real support from the platform.
• A deeply abusive experience. Between the last-minute car change, the missing physical check-out, the insurance added at the last minute, the deposit already given, the €209 added to reach €309, and the €100 extra for insurance, the whole thing shows a highly opaque and frankly shady process.
In short: the renter is dishonest, and Rent From Locals is useless once a dispute appears. You are left alone, with no real help, facing clearly abusive practices.

We are very satisfied with the car rental. The car was in very good condition, clean, and well-maintained. The owner was friendly and helpful.

Great service

First of all, I would like to say that I originally rented a car that looked great and was advertised as being in good working condition. However, as soon as I landed at the airport, I received a message saying that the vehicle had not been returned and that there was some issue with it. After waiting for about an hour, the administration finally replied and said they could offer me a different car instead.

They suggested a blue VW Tiguan and sent me a video. In the video, the car looked clean and in good condition, so I agreed. Then I had to wait again until they sent some people to pick me up. They drove me somewhere outside the city and gave me a completely different vehicle – a white VW Tiguan that was heavily damaged and in very poor condition.

The car had countless warning lights on the dashboard, the air conditioning did not work, the turn signal bulbs were burned out, and the check engine light was on. The vehicle was dirty, worn out, and clearly not properly maintained. They simply told me to take it and drive.

The people who delivered the car could barely speak English, and I had no idea where this vehicle had even come from. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with the entire experience.

I cannot recommend this company. Situations like this should not happen. If they cannot properly manage and maintain their rental fleet, they should not be renting out vehicles at all.
