My experience is average. Not good, not bad.
Due to confidentiality, I am unable to say what my one paid out study was for. The researcher posted the wrong time for the study. I informed her of this. At first, she was combative, but she empathized with me when I told her it was my first study and that I could not travel 3 hours across the state for a rescheduled meeting. I was paid via PayPal.
I have filled out many many surveys with only 2 responses, 1 for the aforementioned project and one for a scheduled one. My scheduled testing date is Friday for a functional study.
One thing to be aware of is that Respondent takes a 5% cut(or $1, whichever is greater) of your payout.
I do agree with others who say chat support is non existent.
Do I think this site is fraudulent? No way. Do I think you can earn a living with Respondent? No!
I may tweak my review depending on Friday’s outcome.
Reliable Organization for Focus Groups
I’ve been using respondent.Io for almost a year now and I’ve completed over 10 focus groups, which I’ve been paid for each time. I never once was scammed by this organization. I’ve completed several focus groups where I’ve received payment via PayPal, visa, debit cards, virtual visa, debit cards, checks, and other forms of gift cards. I highly recommend signing up as a participant with this organization to do group if you’re looking to make some extra cash on the side. Most groups pay $20-$250; however, there are some groups that pay less than $20 or more than $250, but these are uncommon.
I will start by saying I signed up July…
I will start by saying I signed up July 23 2022 , on 7/25/22 I got invited to my first research study for skin care which had a incentive payment of 150$ , I got accepted to another in November for a zoom about college work ect which paid 30$ on November 21 I got accepted to another for a car maintenance study/diary which paid initially 100$ but had a bonus which I did so I made 150$ the first two I had a bunch of questions if I really am going to make 150 for a hour of answering questions could this be real , and sure enough as promised paid , mind you I was pretty much harassing the reps asking a million questions and they always replied very professional and helpful well recently I had a issue I had updated my PayPal email, but because I updated it after I was invited, even if it was before I was processed payment it got sent to the wrong email , at 1102 this am it changed to paid , mins you all along I was conversion with a rep from respondent that name's Justin , he assured me that when it came back as rejected him personally will send me payment to my new PayPal and he did they are always there to answer any silly question or handle problems , it's not there problem that people don't get chosen I have applied to litterly 250 projects and I was accepted to three but of those 3 I have made 330$ for 2 hours total of work it's a amazing platform and the customer service people are very helpful this platform is a blessing and people should be great full you take the screener and if you qualify you get picked , that's the deal you have to answer the question but where else can you make 150$ for a hour work sitting at home NOWHERE IM GGREATFUL
I have completed two research projects…
I have completed two research projects as a participant, one was for 150$ other for 30$ only downfall is it takes awhile to get paid and I have applied to hundreds of studies and I’ve only got two , I think they need to make it easier to get accepted for the studies and payment is threw PayPal so which should definitely be almost instant, if anything the most 24 hours but besides that they will pay just takes a wails and depending if u qualify for the study
Been on Respondent for almost a year …
Been on Respondent for almost a year straight. Consistently applies every single day. They can do better!
Please respondent take note and change these!
1. Ridiculously high fees under the pretense of PayPal processing “yeah right!”. You know we get taxed too right? Why not making the client responsible for all fees? But no, they charge us both. Clients and participants which is ridiculous!! They are the only research platforms that takes from both! Mind you other platforms too uses Paypal!
2. Very poor and neglected UX for participants. Very clunky message box! Weird and uncomfortable. Clients sometimes needs to email us stuffs and that message box sucks! Very bad experience! This site looks like it was made in 2004. They should use those high fees to improve their UX.
3. Stupid rule of 3 surveys per day. What if I qualify for more than 3 and all 3 clients might want to hear from me? This rule is unproductive and dumb. Think for clients!
4. Terrible rules that we can only edit our profiles once a month! Mind you, all the other platforms allow their users to be proactive so clients can find us quickly. Who makes these rules?
With that poor UX, poor message features, no integrated video conferencing,no NDA feature, no testing feature, email templates looking clunky and overwhelming , they should humble themselves. They are just a quick put together job board from 2006. Similar to Craigslist and they have the highest fees! They surely love the passive income aspect but have no backbone to create a great valuable tool in UX or market research. I hope more business run to the competitors who tirelessly invest in perfecting their tools.

The referral program is FAKE:
The referral program is FAKE:
I have been in respondent for a couple of years and I hardly can get projects due to my geographic location. Very well, once in a while I find studies in which I can participate, and I always get paid, which is great and very lately I completed a 90 min interview alongside a referred contact who also completed the task successfully.
The external marketer paid us for our time, via Paypal but Respondent hasn't honored the 50 dollar referral fee they promised they were gonna send me once my referred candidate had finished a study himself.
I write and WRITE support tickets asking for an explanation or an answer and they haven't responded a single one of them.
Is it a racism issue because I am Latin American? If that is so, why publishing projects in which they require people from my nationality then?
You can't DISCRIMINATE your users and deny the referral payment just because they are outside the US.
Or perhaps it's like a lot of people here are saying, Respondent is slowly turning from a reputable website into a scamming one. which is a shame. It used to be a good platform.
Disappointing! You scammed me and my referred candidate! You don't pay referral fees! :/
Completed two studies for them
Completed two studies for them, marked as attended and ‘paid’, sent to PayPal. Expected dates of arrival have now passed.
Emailed multiple times, no reply.
I’m really not sure what is going wrong here or how researchers continue to use them. Extremely disappointed. May have to complain to an authority although not sure which yet as depends on which country they are operating from.
Hopefully I will get a response one day.
Excellent way to make extra $$$
It took some time to get used to the site and it's limited project browsing features, but I am so pleased with this platform. I've made a surprising amount of money in a short amount of time. I'm able to see the status of my payment, which really does go to my PayPal very quickly. I do submit a lot of screeners, but I'd say that my success rate in getting selected is roughly ~10%, which pays off.
The majority of researchers are very kind and appreciative. It feels rewarding to be able to give an honest opinion and have it make an impact on a product or service. Would highly recommend this platform to anyone with a bit of extra time.
Almost Too Good to Be True!
Surprisingly very good and 100 percent legit. I definitely thought this was a scam at first. When I first signed up I applied to many surveys but hadn't been selected for any. Finally after I did get selected to participate in my first survey worth $10 , it took a couple days to process and I did begin to worry. But about 10 days in I received payment to my paypal account. After I began applying to as many surveys as I could ; that I qualified for. So far I have made over $650 with respondent over a 2 months time frame. I have applied to over 100 studies being selected for about 10 % . It takes some time to get selected and you have to apply quick as spots fill up fast but its is very much worth it. Keep in mind you DO HAVE TO QUALIFY FOR THE SURVEYS TO BE SELECTED AND GET PAID!!! Respondent is looking for professionals with actual jobs to give professional feedback. If you don't fit these standards you may not be success with these surveys.
(PS - Had ONE situation where the researcher forgot to pay me! Waited over a month but did reach out to the support team and they worked with me to receive my payment. )y.
Still waiting on payment...
I completed my “In-home interview” in early Dec and was told my payment would take 8-10 days via paypal...its now Jan 25th and I still haven’t been paid. Initially, my emails and concerns were met with an immediate response but now, over a month later, I’m being ghosted. Apparently, after reading these reviews, I am not the only one. I’m sorry for everyone who got caught up in this mess. I’m embarrassed I took this company at their word and naively allowed FIVE TOTAL STRANGERS into my home for a two hour recorded interview filled with countless personal questions and footage taken of my home and my pets. To add insult to injury, my interview was initially set for Dec 9th but was changed by the researcher to Dec 10th which happened to be a work day for me. However, the payout was substantial enough I felt it was worth taking a half day off work to participate. (Yeah, I know...I’m a smart one. 🙄) So, over a month of numerous emails (mostly on my part) and claims of “payment sent” and, most recently, “payment resubmitted” and I am STILL waiting for my money.
Needless to say, I should’ve done my homework on this company - it could’ve saved me a lot of hassle and frustration if i’d only read these reviews before signing up.
Never got paid
I did a study back in Sept. 2019. They tell you it takes 8-10 business days(2 weeks) to receive your payment after you do a study. My Respondent account shows I was paid by the researcher. But I never received my payment. So I contact the researcher and he stated to me that on their end they sent out the payment. I email Respondent and they looked into it and stated that they would have to reissue my payment and it would take another 8-10 days as well. Never received payment. Then they said they would send it directly to my PayPal account, and I verified with Paypal support that there were no pending payments from Respondent. When I reach out to Respondent, they kept giving me the run-a-round. Now it's January of 2020 and I again contacted the researcher to make sure they actually paid me. They verified they paid me and emailed Respondent themselves to help me with the issue. I've emailed over 20 times to Respondent and now they are not responding to my emails at all. I plan on taking legal action against Respondent.
Update:The problem was resolved....Respondent has horrible customer service
Update: The company that I did the study for never responded to my inquiries of payment but Responded did step in and help resolve the issue. The payment was issued a few days after I posted my initial review. I would say when searching for studies make sure the companies are legit. As of today. I’m ok with there customer service and the overall process.

Hello,
I recently signed up for Respondent. I was approved for a 30 minute remote study. I did the study and awaited my payment. When you sign up, you are informed that the payment will post within 7-10 business days to your PayPal account. It’s been at least 3 weeks and I haven’t received my payment. In my Respondent account it says the payment was sent. I have emailed Respondent 3x and customer service has not responded at all. They don’t have a phone number. Email is the only communication for customer service. I would not recommend this company to anyone else.
