If I could give zero stars, I would.
I have a smart meter but have still been receiving estimated bills. In February, I submitted a meter reading which suddenly caused my bill to jump to £945. When I called, I was told this was an error and the amount was refunded.
Now in March, my bill has come in at £1,900. I’ve been told this is due to previous underestimation, but this makes no sense given that my salon has been mostly closed since January due to reduced staff and illness. Our energy usage has been significantly lower, not higher.
The complaints department has been no help at all. I’ve asked for the meter to be inspected as it clearly may be faulty, but nothing has been resolved. I’ve also tried multiple times to switch providers, but this has been blocked without proper explanation.
This situation is causing serious stress and is putting my business at risk. After being a loyal customer for 10 years, this is extremely disappointing and unacceptable.

After a very difficult start to the year financially, being a small business meant I had to put measures in place to ensure that all of my bills got paid. One of these measures was payment plans, of which I have had to apply to my Ruby energy bill more than once to ensure my bill gets paid. My Ruby electric bill is an extortionate amount each month.
After contacting Ruby energy in good time, and time enought to address my direct debit they have not only taken the payment plan payment, they have also taken the whole invoice total on top of that leading to unpaid wages to my staff, inability to buy stock to continue trading in my kitchen, and inexpicable stress in trying not to fold my business (I am in the hospitality industry which has been very difficult so far this year).
The Ruby enery team mislead me to think that making a large payment towards my invoice and starting the payment plan, with another set up the following week, would mean the original invoice would not be taken on the planned date.
There is nothing I won't do to try to remove myself and my business from the intense stress this company has caused me time and time again, while navigating a tempremental industry with constant rising costs & diminishing trade volume. I can only warn others against using Ruby energy - insanely high costs, unclear communication & false security in direct debits. Choose another company!!

When I spoke to Zimkita I was initially very stressed as I had received 9 letters dating back to February 2026. These all said I was over due with my payments. Zimkita was able to calm me down, she listened to all my concerns and addressed all of them. She also apologised as these letters had been sent in error. She wad very caring and supportive and explained my account was up to date and I had no outstanding balance. She said she was going to up date my account and reassured me they were just waiting for this month's direct debit. I found her to have an excellent telephone manner. She was lovely to speak to and I feel calm and reassured. If I could score Zimkita 10 I would. Its not often I speak to someone as lovely professional and supportive as Zimkita. Please pass on my praise to Zimkita and her managers . Thank you so much. Catherine Rouski
