It allows products to be out of stock and them to be replaced with things that are not even close to the same or almost double the price of the original product. Albertsons and Safeway became one they sent all their call centers over to the Philippines where they don’t even have Safeway stores, they leave you with customer service agents who haven’t been trained with Customer Service nor give it care less about decades long consumers. Safeway routinely makes offers if fails to fulfill
Safeway's digital coupons and online ordering consistently do not work -- customer service agents (located in the Philippines) can do absolutely nothing about them, nor can domestic ones. I tried to place an online order for a 5-lb. bag of chicken drumsticks for $4.85, but Safeway cannot fulfill that offer because it routinely fails to maintain its product/offer databases correctly. I've spent over an hour dealing with Safeway's nonsense and deflection -- the problem has nothing to do with my operating system, web browser, its version, its cache, whether or not I'm using a VPN or an ad blocker -- Safeway won't even generate a report about the problem with its offers without making customers first jump through a whole series of hoops and it certainly won't correct them before they expire; I send screenshots of the offer in question and the result of trying to use it (the wrong thing in my shopping cart), but Safeway won't even forward them to its completely incompetent IT department. There are all too many bad grocery store chains in the country -- Kroger is also heavily represented where I live -- but Safeway may be the worst I've ever had to deal with.

Today I shopped for the month…… probably for the last time at Safeway. Chubs of hamburger were on sale. I was told to get a rain check. ……they were sold out Then I happened to go back into the meat department and a man was putting 3 chubs in a ladies cart. When I questioned I was told that they had put them away for her. This is not the first time that I have been treated like this. I worked for Safeway for 30 years and something like this would never have been allowed. I feel Sobys is ruining the Safeway name.
Also why were the Canadian flags pulled off the floor? The Atlantic provinces proudly show theirs…..why not Alberta. This is a good way to have customers boycott you. Keep your nose out of politics

The Safeway Pharmacy staff at the location at 5616 176th St E, in Fredrickson, WA, engages in the kind of fashionable bigotry and overt antisemitism which has given The Woke Left such a bad name.
I've been having issues with them ever since I moved to Frederickson from Federal Way last month.
The Safeway pharmacy staffers in Federal Way were content to do their job in a professional manner. By contrast, their counterparts in Frederickson are the pharmaceutical industry equivalent of online trolls, who abuse their positions of trust and their labor union protections to displace Safeway's corporate views with their own entitled bigotry.
The staffer who requested my last name Saturday apparently did not care for my answer.

I HATE Safeway! They over charge you constantly. Their sale and coupons are the biggest pain, and are usually a way they get you to buy stuff without getting the discount. Be prepared to spend an eternity trying to scan stuff and clip coupons on your phone only to have problems at the checkout or worse after you get home and discover it didn’t work out right. It is a nightmare.

Today I asked if someone could help me at customer service. Laura was too busy chatting with different staff but finally came to the counter. She insisted that I find my receipt on my app; honestly couldn't find. When I finally found it I said I found it, meanwhile Guida walked in ( she is always nice and polite). I said Laura wouldn't wait on me because she was too busy talking to all the Spanish speaking customers. I found the receipt and then they refused to wait on me and had me escorted out. I called corporate, Laura has several complaints filed against her. I have been shopping at Safeway for the past 25 years, long before this store opened and before this lousy employee Laura. No customer service skills at all.She should be fired!

I’ll be shopping & ordering delivery somewhere else
I have used the Safeway for U delivery service for over a year and every month it’s gotten worse and worse. The biggest problem is when something goes wrong during the time the shopper is filling the order, there is no way to contact anyone.
Today was the last straw. The shopper kept asking me if I wanted to replace an item that was out of stock, and I wrote back on chat as asked to do. Told him that I had already listed a substitution on my order. He continued to ask me the same question and I kept telling him what I needed. He eventually finalized my order without adding the item I needed for this week’s meals. I am injured from a fall so now I have to struggle to drive to Bel Air and walk to the dairy case to get the item.

Continued to argue with me while I was trying to get my card to pay. Threatened to call security. Then called me names while leaving because I did not take my cart after his very assaulting attitude.
catastrophe
On 6/14/25, I ordered groceries online. 1/3 of the items I ordered were out of stock, but it’s marked available on the App. I requested delivery time frame of 1 pm to 5 pm. Around 5:15 pm, I received a text that they’re running late and could not deliver within the time frame requested. I immediately called the customer department to cancel as I’m leaving my house at around 5:30 pm. The customer rep tells me not to worry as the order will be canceled. At around 8:45 pm. I received a text saying my order is on the way with a delivery time estimate of 8:50 pm ??!! Unbelievable. I immediately called Customer Dept and was told, “Oh, because we cannot get a hold of the store to cancel”. Seriously? whose problem was that! Such incompetence. So I double checked and was told that I should get my refund within 5-7 business day. The days passed and I called again and was told that the previous customer rep did not process the refund correctly! Seriously? Now I have to wait another 5-7 days for my refund. This is not right! Because, if you place an order, within less than a minute monies are taken out of your bank account, but refund takes 5-7 business dayd (that is if they do it properly!). so frustrating.
Poor quality produce and expired products
We keep giving Safeway a chance because they’re fairly close but now we are tired of getting produce that is moldy, because you can’t see produce, that is packaged up, or spoils within two or three days, or a product purchase, only to find that the expiration date is within a week. For example, we just bought a carton of half-and-half on Saturday the 21st to find out that it expires on the 24th. Maybe I should be a more careful consumer, but I don’t want to have to look at every single item at Safeway to find out the expiration date. Conversely, going to the other grocery stores in my area, have products where the expiration date is several weeks out, and their produce lasts the normal amount of time. We have. specifically shopped at the Safeway near Green Mountain off of Alameda. Unfortunate. Thx.

We stopped in and started our shopping as usual (The last 5 years). They had some Chicken Drumettes on sale at 5.00 a bag. (Great Price) The limit wasc5 bags per person..(SUPPLY ISSUE COMING UP) We went and looked and they were completely out (READY) The area they were in could probably hold 10 bags (IF THAT) so basically TWO PEOPLE GRABBED ALL 10 BAGS....(Whoops) It looks like "SUPPLY" COULDN'T keep up with even 10% of the DEMAND...... We asked for a raincheck for ONE BAG!!!!!!!!!!! The manager (ROBERT) IMMEDIATELY SAID NOPE! I hope in the future that "COMMON SENSE" ARRIVES at this store....(COURTESY TOO).
