Up until I tried putting the app on my phone - I would have rated Santander a lot higher. They locked me out of my account - fair enough I thought - and waited for new log in details. These came - and don't work. A ten minute wait became 18 minutes before I gave up. Next I was promised a 20plus minute wait....
Looking at other reviews - i'm not alone. This needs some work and investment - unless they want yo lose their customers.

I traded in my car and am due refund for overpayment I've been calling since February for refund and since I moved i gave them new address 3 months and still no refund when I call customer service I get different answer every time today I emailed CEO Christina Reily and hopefully someone from her executive office will contact me if I hear nothing within 24 hours from today I'll be submitting a formal complaint with the banking commission and my attorney generals office

Santander has been one disappointment and frustration after another. After many years, I am moving my money elsewhere. Every time I try to move funds in or out, they get in my way. On-line banking has different functions than their app. Customer service is awful. Agents don't know anything and need to put you on hold while they figure out what to do.

Went in with a basic business banking question and was met with zero real solutions. I was told to file multiple name variations with the state and to manually alter checks just to deposit them.
No effort was made to fix the underlying issue or even properly review my account setup. The overall tone was dismissive and unhelpful.

Competitive for Savers
Competitive for Savers. Santander does provide some competitive rates for savers and in particular, for regular savings accounts. The online experience is not bad but it could be improved as it feels rather clunky compared to other online offerings.
However, it does feel very secure and I've always been able to login without any problems and do what I needed to do so, I'm still happy to recommend to anyone looking for a good place to save.

Come on Santander, you push us towards On line banking then today, when trying to log on, receive a message that I need to update the App as you have made some "Improvements". "Go to Play Store" you direct me only to find out the App is no longer compatible with my device. This means for me, the cost of a new device just to access my bank. "Improvements". Errr. No.

These are the most corrupt lenders out there. Don't waste your time. They have a million hidden late fees. You can't make a partial payment unless you go through a million portals. Customer service sucks. Just stay away from these low life leeching bumbs.

Long time current account holder, opened flex account for travelling overseas , need at least 2 direct debits, I have 5, Santander can't or won't, transfer my direct debits between accounts, I have to contact every individual recipient and change debits myself, if I had switched to another bank, this would be done automatically, and sometimes, a joining reward. Absolutely no incentive to stay with them.

I wish I could put zero stars. There is a reason why this bank has such awful reviews. They are incredibly incompetent, careless, and clueless. They made multiple mistakes with my account, provided me with conflicting false information, and ultimately put me in financial harm because of their conflicting information. Worst of all, they don’t care. They don’t do anything to try to help their customers. Instead they refuse to take blame for anything and treat each situation as “oops, nothing we can do” and ultimately the consequences fall on the customer. I have never seen a company not try to help a customer, especially when the errors were on their own end. Do NOT risk your finances with this bank.

Reliably Takes You Money
Reliably take your payment, reliably unhelpful. After thoroughly reviewing my account, there is no option to make a payment to principal online (very boomer of this company), so I chatted their half-structured help department. After explaining (very clearly and with *recorded video*) what I needed, the chat ended with #101020054, and #100651252 (separate conversations bc I like benefit of the doubt) and I was immediately logged out of my account. Twice. I can give 1 star.. for progress of business and all that. But ending chats for clear and poor training isn't advisable.

Thought about using you for a car loan but after my sister has been trying to pay her car off because she has the funds to do so I can’t believe the aggravated stress they are giving her, I think your bank is stealing money from her making her wait to pay off the rest of her car. You are just getting her for more interest. I work for a bank and I have never heard of such a thing . Shame on your financial institution.
Months without resolution
I have been trying, without success, to take my deceased partners name off of the title of the vehicle we purchased together. I have been mislead, hung up on, redirected and passed around. It has been almost 4 months since I started this process. I need to get this resolved so I can refinance with a more reputable bank. Worst bank ever!

I wish I could give this BANK no stars, my Hell started on February 27, 2026 when my Social Security checklist deposited. I went to the bank to get my money out but when I got there, I couldn’t retrieve my money because my license was expired and also I have lost my card a few weeks before so I was told to get my appointment at DMV and come back to the bank before March 15, 2026, and I will be able to use the DMV slip of proof to clear my account out before they officially closed it on March 15. I went to DMV and as of March 11, I went back to the bank to retrieve my money out of I was told that someone decided to mail my check out to me on March 10, 2026. I opened up a checking account with Santander 20 years ago. Had an issue with them that took three weeks for them to resolve after 20 years of being with them. They decided to part ways. I highly recommend it if anybody is looking for a checking account or savings account that you do not use Santander is your primary checking account because they will do you dirty

Payment issues cant connect with anyone. No notifications if there are payment issues. The only way one know is after the asses fees. So, I cannot believe that they have a 1.5 score. I am sure such a high rating is why they think they can just rest on their laurels. All I can suggest is as quickly as you can refinance with someone else. Maybe a loan shark you at least know where you stand.
Do not use them for car leasing
After a car lease-end inspection, even though I replaced the damaged item on the car before I returned it, they still charged me for it. Spending more than an hour on the phone with a not so pleasant customer service rep, created more frustration and did not provide any help.
