They doubled the cost of my home…
They doubled the cost of my home insurance over two years , despite no claims ( ever on any insurance ).
No reason or explanation given , just take it or leave it attitude , dreadful way to treat customers
Lloyds home insurance was 50% cheaper than Santander new quote so moved to them
Absolutely shocking company
Absolutely shocking company, we were hit by a foreign lorry and had our vehicle written off. We pay for a curtesy car, they made every excuse as to why we weren’t entitled to it. Now we find out it’s gone down as a fault claim because it’s a “tricky “ situation with the other driver being foreign! And it will take some time before if ever they can resolve the claim ! Absolutely shocking! Would definitely not recommend this company
Santander attempted rip off
I took out car insurance with Santander in April 2026 but sold the car in June. I called Santander to cancel the insurance and gave notice that I expected to take delivery of a new car in the next couple of weeks. I was told that unless I could give a precise date and registration number I could not ‘transfer’ the current policy and unless I cancelled the policy it would effectively continue on the old car until I took further action. I decided to wait until I had spoken to the new car dealer but asked for an indicative 12 month quote for the new car which was a staggering £2500 for an Audi A3 compared with less than £600 for my existing car. I am aged 84 with a clean sheet on previous claims. When I challenged I got the blah blah about increasing prices and new car being more valuable than the old. I subsequently cancelled the old insurance online with a pro rata refund and a £50 change fee which will take 7 days to reach my account.
I then went on a comparison site to get other prices and the cheapest quote was less than my current policy. Guess who the cheapest quote was from ?? You got it - Santander!! What an attempted rip off
Sent a request for driving conviction…
Sent a request for driving conviction details to spam folder, which obviously went un-noticed, then subsequently cancelled my policy and left car undriveable for over a week while they 'tried to rectify it'. Do not take out a policy with this company. They're a joke. Hands down worst insurer I have ever had even if it only lasted a month.

Why? Because they made excuses over what was a fully proven open-and-shut case against Sports Direct and I should have received my money but because of some grey areas to do with Mastercard over certain means of transactions, they couldn't return my funds.
Since then, there should have been a full case of fraud opened up against a company called Autodoc, in Newton Abbot, a garage which did more damage to our car than provided the requested fixes, and again they simply closed the case.
There is also a line of rationale called 'logical deduction', when a company doesn't cancel orders they are meant to, should have to refund your money but instead we are told that obtaining funds back has become especially difficult and that very obvious cases for the return of funds might not be successful.
You have to wait about two-weeks for forms to come through, as well, and it is starting to look as if debit-accounts are not protected with Santander putting customers off and then declining your moneys owed.
I was with Abbey National before they became Santander and together with the fact that the bank doesn't offer any business options for start-ups, I am concerned that even their long-term customers are not in receipt of that which is expected.
I was already annoyed with them, after they made a fuss over obtaining money back from a company called Crampton and Moore who robbed us of £249 for a used DAB-radio sold as new and then who refused to provide the necessary returns-label, grey areas again...
Not good enough and maybe time for a change. They can talk about the disloyalty of their customers jumping ship in their adverts but maybe they could consider why people want to leave instead of complaining about it somewhat after the fact.
Misleading holiday insurance
I am absolutely disgusted with the service—or lack thereof—provided by Santander Holiday Insurance. I specifically took out this policy after being assured it covered cruise-specific issues, including missed ports due to bad weather.
However, when the weather turned and ports were missed, I was told the coverage I was promised didn't exist, and I was offered a insulting £40 settlement.
The Main Issues:
Deceptive Sales/Information: I was given false and misleading information. It appears Santander, Chubb, and their partner companies do not communicate with one another, leading to customers being told whatever is necessary to get them to sign up.
Zero Proactive Communication: They didn't have the common courtesy to update me on my claim or my complaint. I had to continuously chase them via email just to get a response.
Poor Value vs. Competitors: My family took out insurance with the Post Office; they had their claim settled and paid within days. Meanwhile, I had to fight for basic transparency from a bank I once trusted.
Santander has completely let me down. There is a total lack of accountability and a massive disconnect between their departments. I will be canceling this insurance immediately. If you want peace of mind for your holiday, look elsewhere—don’t make the same mistake I did.
I had a very helpful and polite man…
I had a very helpful and polite man today, help me with an ongoing claim. He was friendly, patient and couldnt help enough. Reassured my issue as urgent. Hopefully we will get it sorted now. Thank you Hussainh( excuse the spelling)
The service is a joke
The service is a joke. For leasing they have telephone opening times hours 12-15 which is extremely narrow. Not surprisingly you sit in queue forever as they say you should try to chat. Which I have done. The chat function knows zero about your particular case like rest values and so on. That a big bank can go so low shows that they don`t really care about their clients. When I eventually came through they still couln`t say what the rest value would be if I prolonged the finance one year. So how to make a decision ?
Cannot access account because OTP not being received
Tried to access Bank account online, website loaded had to get One Time Code tried many times non received. Phoned bank no service after 6pm. No wonder Customers are leaving less & less service from these guys.
My local Santander branch still open.
Excellent bank account, mortgage and online services. App is good too. Thankfully my local branch is still open unlike many rival UK banks.
My home insurance went up by 33%
My home insurance went up by 33%. No claims were made. No explanation for the increase was provided. Have been with Santander since they took over from Abbey National, I'd say about 30 years. I am surprised they are still in business. Looking for alternatives.
Are they really in the car insurance…
Are they really in the car insurance industry? I have never been asked to provide so much stupid information in my 36 years of driving and being insured. They want photocopies of my vehicle log book. Why? They have my reg number. They want photocopies of of the front and rear of my driving license. Even tho I gave them my driving license number. They want a copy of my NCD Which previous insurance companies hold. They are rarely ever sent out to customers. It’s called a national insurance database! If I’ve want to insure my home, do you want copy of my deeds? Do you want photos of inside and outside house? Do you want evidence from land registry that i own the property? Every other insurance company has all these details at the stroke of the keyboard and can verify all your submitted info within seconds. Utterly lame. Don’t waste your time!
Fantastic customer experience
I have experienced fantastic customer service whilst trying to resolve an issue created by a different insurance company. Gillian you are an absolute legend.
Do not trust santander home insurance
Do not trust santander home insurance. they are just taking your money
Take every opportunity to fleece customers
Updated my car insurance online (big hike in price) also an additional £25 admin fee despite being done online. I hadn't put on the car had a tracker so called to also mention the charge and the tracker. I was charged another £25 to put on the policy that there was a tracker. I said well, leave it off and was told my insurance would be invalid
Avoid this company
They weren't helpful at all. Avoid them as they will take your money but when you need assistance you can't find it.
Absolutely Terrible Experience!!!
Absolutely Terrible Experience!!!
I strongly advise against using Santander Home Insurance, especially if you're in Spain. Their communication is non-existent – it's practically impossible to reach anyone when you need help. Emails go unanswered, phone calls get you nowhere, and you’re left completely in the dark. When it comes to filing a claim, prepare for total frustration. They always find a way to deny it, no matter how valid it is. It feels like they are just looking for excuses not to pay out, and they blatantly ignore you in the process. Trying to cancel the policy? Good luck. They make it as complicated and drawn out as possible, clearly hoping you’ll give up so they can keep charging you. This company is a complete waste of money. They take your premiums but provide zero service or support. I regret ever signing up and would never recommend Santander Home Insurance to anyone. Stay away – this company is a scam in disguise.
I was looking to change over my new car…
I was looking to change over my new car to Santander as I am currently with them for Car insurance and I decided to speak to their call centre. After speaking to them I am now not renewing with them. Honestly in they are looking for business maybe they should spend some money on new customer services call handler, as someone with experience doing the job speaking to people like they are morons is not the way to do it. I don't need to get told off for trying to get insurance and this will be the last time I use them.
Awful service in less than one month, god knows what they'll do if i do have an accident.I have been with Santander less than a…
I have been with Santander less than a month for car insurance. I clicked on the wrong year for a claim for storm damage when I took the policy out. They emailed to confirm what was the correct date, I emailed back, they chased me again so I emailed them back again confirming I had the wrong date, they chased me again by email so I phoned them to confirm i had the wrong date. so they have now decided to charge me £25 and put my insurance up.
