poor support and glitchy

My previous seagate external drive worked fine for a few years, via windows file history. My new one comes with it's own software but it is entirely baffling. The manual has no pictures so it is almost impossible to relate to. Eg it says go to main menu as a first instruction...but the interface has nothing looking like a main menu. The links for support don't work. I get a message saying backup successful and then moments late another saying back-up failed. Seems no obvious way to set what you want it to back up. It wasn't cheap so this is a big disappointment and worrying as I have no idea if it is actually working as backup. It would have been

Seagate now is the synonym of poor…

Seagate now is the synonym of poor customer service and horrible warranty service! And worst quality drives sold out there! Never more I’ll purchase any product made by them after my most recent experience! I have an 8TB expansion hub drive that got its SATA port damaged, it stopped working properly most of the time, occasionally it would connect after placing the cable into the port at certain angle. There Seagate support did not offer any help, they told me my device was out of warranty and they advised me to back it up!!! Incompetent !d!0t5!!! I purchased it in 2022, so it was not that old and barely used it, it appears ports are of the most poor quality, disassembled it removed the disk, bought an adaptor and fixed it myself, but no Seagate products anymore, even as gifts!!!

Bought a very expensive SSD (Rugged Pro5), which stopped working after less than 2 months. I was obliged to agree to very 1 sided conditions to start the RMA process, and pay for the shipping back to support myself ! Unbelievable. Avoid !!!

What a service

What a service! My hard drive had crashed, and I was really stressed about losing all my data. Thankfully, Seagate reassured me that they would take care of the recovery. Now, just two weeks later, I’ve received a new hard drive with all my data restored. It's all covered under warranty. Thank you so much, Seagate!

Lying, Cheating and Seeking More Money

I purchased a 6tb external drive directly from their website, and received it in a box with no form of padding or protection. Predictably, the drive was damaged. I attempted to contact their support, and learned that I was expected to pay extra for them to replace it. With no other choice and CrystalDiskInfo results turning up alright, I decided to use the drive despite the clicking and grinding sounds. Less than a year later the drive started losing data. At this point, I contacted the Better Business Bureau about it. Seagate began lying and cheating immediately by reporting the issue as resolved to the BBB on first contact in an attempt to prevent me from responding in a timely manner. The options they offered me were, once again, the exact warranty options offered before, in which I would be expected to subsidize their failures. The only leeway they offered was to waive the fee for data recovery. In this case, however, I would be expected to send the drive to them and wait for them to send another one back to me with my data copied to it. Considering I've already seen the care they put into shipping these drive, I told them that wasn't an option. This went back and forth for a while until they, once again lying and cheating, closed the case as "inactive" withing three hours of receiving my last response.

Seagate Canada Store a terrible experience

It took eight hours of constantly reentering my information before I was actually able to complete my order from the Canadian Seagate Store and when done, despite all the time it took to do it, and the many times I entered the correct "Deliver to" address, they still got it wrong. It took hours to get back to them, and when it did, I tried to get them to correct the address they said, "sorry it has been shipped, we cannot change the delivery address". Time wasted makes what looked like a good deal not worth it, especially if I cannot get UPS to change delivery address to the correct one.

Seagate

Seagate, the company that now owns LaCie hard drives, has terrible customer service. I’ve had three different drives all purchased at the same time, and they all died within less than a year of each other. They advertise all their “support” options, but they’re non-existent, unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful every time I’ve dealt with them.

I now have no hard drive and wasted almost $175 on the drives. I also don’t have an iCloud backup, and their advertisement of data backup and recovery help is unacceptable. I wouldn’t just walk away from Seagate, but I would run as far as I can to another company that will hold up its end of the deal. I’ve emailed their entire leadership and corporate board from contacts I’ve had before with them.

The worst part is that they won’t even call you for support. They don’t offer phone support, only email.

10/10 will always recommend this company for external harddrives

They gave an exception to an expired warranty and are replacing and recovering a damaged harddrive at no cost to myself, the customer service agent, Melissa was very helpful and informative as well as spoke to me kindly and patiently. She went over and above. I damaged the external harddrive by dropping it when I moved my laptop, which had happened many times but it fell hard onto a hard surface, so the hardware issue is at no fault to Seagate and they are fully giving me all the support and repairs without charging anything, I was fully ready and willing to pay anything to recover my data and they have very generously gone over and above to help and ignore the warranty expiration (obviously just a one time exception but, as a very low income photographer who just lost irreplaceable files due to my own clumsiness, this is absolutely the most amazing gift they could give. ) 10/10 recommend Seagate

This company is truly despicable

This company is truly despicable in every way. I too, like many other reviewers, purchased a LaCie drive directly from Apple thinking that the drive would be good and compatible with my Mac Book Air as advertised on the page I purchased it. Did not communicate with my Mac Book Air. Contacted Sea Gate where customer service reps do not speak with you on the phone. If you request to speak to a person they inform you they are not allowed to do that and if your case is "escalated" where you are communicating with a person over email, it doesn't get any better because these "reps" don't actually read your case documents and ask you to repeat steps you already took to prove to them that the product is faulty. When you request to speak to a person on the phone, they take your case and hand it to someone else who is another ditz who hasn't read your case and again wants to take you through steps you already took to prove the drive doesn't work. They are so disrespectful of time. If you get so far as to receive a label to ship the drive back to them, they send you another faulty drive that doesn't work and a "complimentary" drive to replace the one you purchased, yet it is a "certified repaired drive" (aka, not new, not comparable to what you originally purchased. This company is some sort of scam. I'm going to contact Apple to see if they can help.

What a horrible company Seagate has…

What a horrible company Seagate has become! Purchased a $700 Rugged Pro drive. Doesn't work. They won't honor the warranty because Seagate conveniently placed the serial number on the inside of the sealed rubber casing. Here's an actual statement from the chat..."Naresh: Opening the rubber casing will not void the warranty. However, if the case is removed and there is no serial number visible, we will consider this a tampered drive according to Seagate's warranty policy."

So in other words, good luck finding the serial number and voiding your warranty, which won't be honored anyway. All we wanted was this expensive drive to be fixed and returned to us. They wouldn't even do that for us.

LaCie external back up hard drive only…

LaCie external back up hard drive only lasted 2 years. Very disappointed, I purchased this through Apple, expecting a quality product to back up my MacBook Pro. It failed, just as the guarantee ran out and both Apple and Seagate confirmed it was a faulty and unrepairable.

Seagate One Touch Failure

I had a desktop windows issue and transferred all the data to a One Touch that held years of Doc, pic,s music.
The unit was two =months past warrant for free disk rescue, the company honored the recovery and after a few attempts to recover the data was about 80% recovered. The customer service was excellent, timely and informative. Great job customer service, the lab did a great job as well

Terrible.

Terrible. My external drive stopped working after a few months of owning because the USB was unplugged accidentally while in use, causing the reader to get stuck. They purposefully design the device to be extremely hard to get into to try and fix yourself. Do not trust their drives to backup your data or have anything of value stored on the drive. 4 hours of customer support trying to use my warranty they made me go through hoops and bounds to get a "destruction certificate" because I was unwilling to send a recoverable backup of my entire computer to them. They then gave me the certificate which is a really strange contract to sign, essentially told me to remove the drive and ship them back plastic at my expense to receive a replacement. I tried to reason with them how illogical this is both shipping back plastic and the destruction cert only to get the same faulty model and I was not willing to waste anymore time relying on their awful business practices.

TLDR; I will never use another Seagate product and I will chalk this up as $120 lost. Advising anyone looking to buy any type of storage to shop elsewhere.
