Bought a £124 5TB Seagate HDD Feb 2022

Bought a £124 5TB Seagate HDD Feb 2022. The Two year warranty should have taken me to Feb 2024, you would think.

Hard Drive failed in November 2023. Checked Serial on Seagate- Warranty is invalid as it expired in October 2021. How can a company advertise a two year warranty before you buy it, then you buy it, register it and find out the warranty based on the serial number is invalid and expired before you buy? How can that be legal?

That's right my two year warranty on the product expired 7 months before i bought it!!!

1. 2 Year Warranty Expired October 2021
2. Product Bought With 2 Year Warranty Feb 2022
3. Drive Fails with Data Loss November 2023

Seagate refuse support or refund. There was never a 2 year warranty in place.

Used to buy Seagate drivers over other reputable manufacturers, not anymore.

False advertising of 2 year warranties, failure to provide refund or replacements.

Case referred to Simple Procedure Court Action.
Consumer Rights Act ensures I will win

Joke of a company, joke of a support.

Abysmal customer service

Avoid this company’s products if possible because their customer support is non-existent and if you have a fault with one of their products you won’t be able to get it fixed.

My experience with their abysmal service is as follows. I bought a Seagate Ultra Touch 2TB HDD on 4th July from Amazon to be used for Time Machine backups of my Macbook Air.

The product worked ok for a couple of weeks, but then the disc started powering down and disconnecting every time a backup was completed, creating an error message, with no drive shown in Explorer. It then reconnected each time the next backup started, leaving my screen full of error messages, especially after overnight backups. I checked the backups when the disc was connected and fortunately, they’d been recorded successfully.

I ran the Mac Disk Utility app and it said there were no faults on the HDD. I checked the Time Machine app and there are no settings for auto disconnect.

The only support service offered by Seagate on the contacts page on their website is a webchat facility. This is accompanied by a note that says “As of June 30, 2023 our support options have changed. Please take advantage of our online chat support for a faster response or self-help options listed below.”

A fast and supportive response from their team is vapourware based on my experience.

I contacted the webchat support service and after 30 minutes, and some tests with the agent, the cable shipped with the drive was identified as faulty.

The agent then said I was being transferred to a colleague who would read my transcript and continue the call. The second agent told me that the cable was out of warranty as it was over 90 days old, even though I registered the product on the 5th July 2023!

I had to provide proof of purchase, and after another 30 mins, the agent said that I was being transferred to another colleague. However, this time I was returned to the virtual assistant and had to connect to the webchat service again!

The third agent challenged that the cable needed replacing but finally accepted it was faulty. After 30 minutes, making 1½ hours in total on the call, he checked the accessory was in stock and typed “I have requested a sales order to provide you with a new USB cable, you should be contacted in the next 24 to 48 hours with an update to the next step”.

As I felt that the process had taken far too long, and had involved far too many agents, for such a trivial issue, I asked for the email address of their customer services department so I could make a complaint – and was told there was no email address, but I could leave a comment at the end of the chat!!!!

I then asked for the address of their Head Office and after being kept waiting for another 30 minutes, and therefore wasting 2 hours of my evening, the agent disconnected!

I’ve not heard anything from Seagate since the webchat, so I’ve had to buy a replacement cable from Amazon. This is the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced, and it feels like they’re defrauding unsuspecting customers. Their website says: “We honor our people’s craftsmanship, take great pride in successfully collaborating with our partners, and care deeply about our customers and their data.” The one thing they don’t do is care deeply about their customers so avoid buying their products if possible.

Seagate Backup Hub storage for MAC and customer support a total disaster

Seagate Backup Plus Hub

Just over 18 months ago I purchased a 6TB Seagate Backup Plus Hub based on the fact that it was listed as MAC compatible.

It functioned reasonably well loading on my MAC Desktop without and problem and then in April/May (2023) the Seagate Backup Plus Hub stopped mounting and none of the files held within were accessible

I contacted Seagate Customer support regarding the problem and received over 20 plus emails various solution scenarios, none of which worked. Including I should download the "Paragon Drive for Mac OS (Big Sur and later)" which I duly did and in fact paid GB£19.95 for the program. Still to no avail I was totally unable to mount the Seagate Backup Plus Hub.

Over the numerous emails with the Seagate Customer Support team, I was given several anomalies including:

NTFS from the start, it was never compatible with Mac by itself and high chance it was accessible on Mac with the help of Paragon software – despite the Seagate Backup Plus Hub was clearly listed as being 100% MAC compatible.

I also received the statement from the Customer support team that “please bear in mind that we're not trained for advanced Mac OS troubleshooting, hence the suggestion was to contact Apple Support directly on this” So I severely question why the Seagate Backup Plus Hub is listed as MAC compatible. I find it somewhat surprising that supplying External Hard drives that are listed as MAC compatible that SEAGATE then note that they are not trained for advanced MAC OS Troubleshooting, that seems somewhat contradictory.

In the end I gave up and purchased a new 6TB Intenso 3.5 Memory Center, I plugged it in and it immediately functioned correctly within seconds without having to go through any other program. I immediately transferred a large file from my MAC onto the INTENSO and it functioned 100% perfectly.

Since that time, I have spent numerous hours trying to recover photo files from the Seagate Backup Plus Hub via a Windows Laptop onto a ancillary hard drive then in turn retransferring them to the 6TB Intenso memory center via my MAC Desktop

In short the Seagate Backup Plus Hub as a back-up storage for MAC is a total disaster and the Customer support team are ineffective

Under the Radar Company

I've been ordering Olive Leaf Extract and other wonderful things from this company ever since hearing about them many years ago on the TV Show "Know the Cause" hosted by Mycologist Doug Kaufmann. They're a small company, but customer service is outstanding, products are always delivered on time, fresh and do exactly what they are intended to do, which you will have to research for yourself, since they make zero medical claims on their site and do not allow customers to do so either (very smart, keeps them off the FDA's radar). Rather, they concentrate their time on explaining how each herb or veggie is processed. I did not know you could buy freeze dried broccoli in capsules, until I saw them! Great for travel! They have sales fairly often and you can easily be notified via email. Instead of having an enormous selection of products that do not do a thing, they have a few products that work great--my preference! My only wish is that they would sell olive leaf as a powder, in addition to the capsules. All items in capsules have been "freeze dried" (yes, I've been buying from them long enough to have read every description) You can't get better quality than that! Hope you visit and "No, I don't work for the company." I just want to report a good company that is worth the time, effort and money! Happy shopping! Side Note: During COVID, they did not miss a beat and after it was over, they had developed at least one new product. :-) That's my kind of company: one that always finds a way to keep moving forward, even during challenging times.
