Fantastic company…
Russell and the company are always fantastic. DPD however say that they can’t leave the item but did leave it on the doorstep. My neighbour went to save it. Sewing machine is beautiful.

Meant to be brand new..it wasn’t
Bought sewing machine online from SMD expecting a brand new machine. This particular model cost over £500. Sewing machine arrived in a box with multiple layers of tape sealing the box which indicated it was not brand new and had been opened before.
The Sewing machine had grubby marks on dials and other places on the machine where it had been used.
SMD only offer a repair service on machines bought from them and do not give refunds. Bitterly disappointed after spending so much on the machine which was an investment into my growing business and a very expensive one for me.

To confirm and clarify, I can assure you that we don`t supply used machines as new and having checked all communication channels, we haven`t received any messages from you since we supplied your new machine seven weeks ago, except for this 3 star product review posted 2 hours before this one ..
Promised so much, but has been difficult to use. Pros. When it does work, it is very smooth, does a lovely stitch, easy to control speed from slow and precise to very fast on long stretches of material. The IDT is great for slippery fabrics holding it in place neatly. Cons. Selecting different stitches is overly complicated and not just a simple case of select and go as advertised. It is extremely fussy about the thread used and will chew it up and get caught around the bobbin case if it doesn’t like it. Lots of time wasted and untangling. It comes with 3 bobbins which are specifically designed for this particular model and very difficult to source more that will fit. You can’t use any old bobbin as it won’t take it or will chew the thread up into the machine. Claims to be able to go through multiple layers of denim but really struggles, countless needles broken and jammed thread. Spent over £550 and I couldn’t be more disappointed. I’m an experienced machinist with over 40years of sewing.

My order was dealt with very quickly and delivered in no time at all, very pleased with the service.
The book doesn't really show you how to use the needle threader, I went on Utube where you can see what you are supposed to do a lot easier! I bought the machine as I have macular and was having difficulty threading my old machine, so I will hopefully master the threader!

I rang to ask a question regarding purchase of an additional footer for a machine I wished to order. Russell was able to answer the question just like that and then was able to give me so good information on the machine I was purchasing. The machine arrived the next day. Fabulous service. I'm so please with my machine. It's great value for money. Would thoroughly recommend this company.

Great Customer Service
Great range of machines. I bought a budget overlocker (Amber S100) in 2024 and more recently upgraded my sewing machine to a DKS100.
Both really good machines, even though I still don't know how to use either of them to their full potential!
But what really stands out with SMD is the customer service. Firstly, Russell helped me with buying the Janome on credit, as the link to apply wasn't working. He made it very quick and seamless.
Then when there was an issue with the buttonhole settings, I had Dave guiding me through some simple checks via WhatsApp (including sending me a couple of videos to show me what to do). When this didn't work he had it collected (for free) to have a look. There was some sort of fault that couldn't easily be repaired and so it was swapped over. All done and back to me within a week.
Again, just really helpful, and resolved the problem with little effort from me.
Very grateful for service like this, which is what makes SMD my favoured & trustworthy choice.
