Just Got Home from a nice week in Greece, Sivota with a car rental from Sixt. A very fine service. No problem with returning the car. We went over the car together from the start and again at the return. Very profesional

I rented a car from Sixt in Copenhagen and dropped it off on time after hours, using their designated lockbox system. Days later, they attempted to charge me for three additional rental days, claiming the vehicle wasn’t returned. Only after I provided a video of myself dropping the keys into the box — with a timestamp — did they finally reverse the charge.
Then came a second surprise: a damage claim for a thin, straight scratch on the driver’s door. I know for certain I didn’t cause this, and the mark doesn’t resemble normal usage — more like something deliberate. Oddly, they claim the damage was discovered the same day I returned the car, despite originally alleging I hadn’t returned it for three more days.
I asked for camera footage or proper documentation from their lot — which staff had told me existed — but so far, no clear evidence has been provided.
After reading other reviews, it’s clear I’m not the only one facing this kind of issue. Multiple renters have reported being charged for dubious damage and extra rental days with little to no proof. This appears to be a pattern.
Take photos and videos at both pickup and drop-off, including your return to the key drop. And if you can avoid it, maybe choose a different company altogether.

I rented a car and paid a hefty price for no-deductible coverage. But after Sixt inspected the car, they found a scratch on the wheel and sent an email informing me: Section 39 of your rental agreement, under Insurance and Protection, states:
"39) Regardless of chosen insurance coverage, a processing fee of 375 DKK including VAT will be charged per claim.."
I understand that no deductible is no deductible! What a horrible company! Sixt never again!

They always have cars available for booking on their web site, when in reality there could be zero. My first booking was cancelled next day, when I was on my way to pick up the car. I checked their site and there were plenty of cars still available so I decided to proceed to the office anyway, but when I came I was told they had zero cars and everything was booked out a long time ago. Luckily I was able to rent a better car and even cheaper from their competitor. Bad service, never again.

My son and me rented a car in Copenhagen . We immediately drove out of Copenhagen to the north and returned to this car rental office the same day . We parked up the car as instructed and left . This was in November . Two days ago ( Jan 25 ) I find fraudulent activities on my bank account this company was trying to take money from my account with out notice . It was an old bank account and had no funds . I contacted Sixty to see what was going on . I was told you have a parking ticket . Impossible we replied we didn’t park any where in Copenhagen . One day later a email letter - you had a speeding ticket , ok we said show us this ticket! . In the meantime some money went into this old account from another source and SIXTY pounced on the money again with out consent and took 145euros .
I asked again what is going on your taking money you have provided no proof what so ever . Next day they come back - ‘ you parked in our car park in the wrong parking space ‘ I said What you can not be serious is this a joke ? Why would we do that if we knew we would be fined? What would be the sense if we had been told this information . Their reply when you sign you give permission to take money from your card - It seems an indefinite arrangement for them -8 weeks after the event from their own car park . The staff dealing with this could not care less .They take no responsibility . This parking fine also received a none payment charge accelerating the cost and still we were not informed . The company customer care is ZERO - the attitude of the staff dealing with this don’t care . They have taken the money from my account. This company can not be trusted with your bank card . BEWARE

Terrible service, don't take responsibility for a car that breaks down.
My in-laws rented a car over Christmas from Sixt in Billund, which broke down after two days of renting. I called and let them know and they said they would contact me as soon as possible but no one called back. When they return the car, they only expect them to return it without filling the tank 2-300 kr DDK but no refund.
the radio screen (display) went black and they were stuck with high temperatures, no GPS in a country they have never been to before and no radio.
I (a mechanic) found out that this failiure is very common in this type of car but they hide behind the fact that the car was fine when they received it and therefore do not want to offer any percentage of a refund.

Rasmus and his team at SIXT Odense truly excel in taking care of their customers. Rasmus always goes above and beyond to make sure everything runs smoothly and truly value his customers. I also had the pleasure of dealing with Daniel, who was incredibly efficient and did everything to meet our needs. Both Rasmus and Daniel clearly have a keen focus on customer satisfaction. The team at SIXT Odense really sets the bar high for car rental services. This is the best service I have ever had in Europe and in the US where I travel for work or leisure very often. If you're looking to rent a car, there's no better place. Their commitment to outstanding service and attention to detail make every experience enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Horrible pick-up experience – and no reaction to our complaints
We had a horrible experience, when picking up a car at the Sixt desk in Malaga airport on 24 September 2024.
Our voucher could not be found, so we had to start the booking process all over – ending with a piece double our original booking. Not least insurance and “prime location” (airport) added to the costs.
When returning from our vacation, we prepared a complaint to Sixt, but before having sent it, we received 4 October 2024 a mail from Laura Oischinger from Customer Service explaining that Sixt have had some IT-issues, which had let to some bookings not being correctly concluded.
The mail from Laura Oisching was written in Danish, so we replied 8 October 2024 in Danish and explained our experiences and our demand for being reimbursed at least part of the additional costs.
No reply.
On 17 October we sent a kind reminder.
No reply.
By looking into LinkedIn, we then realize that Laura Oischinger is based in Münich, so on 31 October 2024 we sent a new mail – in English – which also included a translation of our original complaint.
We have still not received any kind of reply from Laura Oischinger or others in Customer Service, which of course adds further to our picture of Sixt - a horrifying customer handling in Malaga Airport combined with a non-existing customer after sales service.
SIXT apparently doesn’t care for their customers neither locally nor at corporate level!
Our recommendation is clear – don’t ever book your car with Sixt.

Update 3 ... 15 Apr 2025
I challenged the cost of the parking ticket SIXT charged to my credit card that was a result of their car breaking down… SIXT's Bank claims that because the contract states I'm responsible for parking tickets ... even though SIXT agrees the break down was not my fault ...I still have to pay.
I continue to fight this through my Bank.
I rented a citroen eTense in Odense for 5 days. Nice staff. Day 4 a warning message in French came on the dashboard. I pulled over and stopped. The car wouldn't start again. It was after hours, so the next morning I called Sixt, Emergency Road Service came out and got the car started. I drove it straight back to Odense and was given a new car. A bother, but everyone was nice. I was also told by the staff at Odense that that car was overdue for maintenance and they were told to rent it out anyway.
A few weeks later, Sixt emailed saying that since I hadn't bought their ERO insurance, they were charging me the full price of the ERO. I wrote that their car failed and I wasn't going pay. They continued sending nasty emails .. and the invoice for the ERO. I had a photo of the dashboard warning message, which I sent them.
I demanded this be escalated and a manager who offered me compensation of 60% on the cost on my five day rental. However, they would not agree to state I was not at fault.
I refused the compensation, and I have come here to find out how often Sixt has been running this scam on people.
Thank you.
UPDATE
I posted here because I want written confirmation I was not at fault. I asked for copies of the car diagnostic logs which would prove I was telling the truth. Instead I got this statement ...
"We have cancelled the (Sixt) damage claim, choosing to trust your perspective [the photo and date of the warning message from the car] over the evaluation from our mechanics."
in short, I suggest renters ask to see written proof of when the last the maintenance was done on the car before you accept it from Sixt.
UPDATE 2
I just got another claim from Sixt, this time demanding payment for "Police relocation" of their faulty car which I was forced to leave on the roadside when it failed.

I have rented a car from Sixt a number of times and have always been happy with their service. I tend to use the FastTrack option so I am on my way from Copenhagen Airport in no time.
Most recently, I was served by Steffen at Billund Airport, when I picked up a one-way car hire. Although very last minute on my part, finding an upgrade and extending the hire period was not a problem. I was very impressed.

Stay away from this company.
My story is no different than what has been posted. They contact you with an invoice of obscene amount of money with no explanation (when you ask, they will say they contacted you several times and you did not respond). When I disputed the charges (not knowing what they are charging me), they came with pictures of the car with dents that they have already reported and put on the rental agreement at the moment of checkout.
You think that this should be fine. No! They come back and are now trying to scam money on car issues that they had agreed when they handed the car to me. And this is almost one year later that they had come clean about the invoice after passing me through another departments and delaying.
The only thing they ask for is pictures. Any explanation is fruitless; they DO NOT listen at all. And worse of it, if you argue enough over several emails tiredlessly, they agree to offer a special discount on charges. I thought this only existed in Nigerian email scams.
I would rather pay a lawyer in thousands of dollars than pay this company a dime. And their practices should be reported.
Terrible company! Stay far far away from Sixt!

I go to Denmark fairly often, ant least three times a year and SiXt has always been my preferred rental option. However this has changed, the last two times they have charged me fees for damages that I didnt create. The first time I rented was in January and it wasn’t until June I got a email claim stating that there was damages and I had to pay. By then I had deleted all pictures of the car because of the time frame so could dispute that I didn’t make those damages. I didn’t want the headache so I went ahead and paid but by then I had already paid for another rental through sixt in July. I went ahead and bought insurance the second time to ensure that I was covered but they still found a way around it and charged me. Also, when I picked up the car it ended up taking two hours due to their system being down. This of course was out of their control but the person helping me had to go help other people all the time while other customers got their vehicles at regular speed I ended up being at the counter for over an hour. The second time I made the mistake of not taking pictures so unfortunately they can make up anything, and again, also the person at the drop off told me just leave the car and didn’t bother to check it with me. Again I didn’t want the headache so I just went ahead and paid but I’m not making the same mistake three times and will not be renting from them again. I travel a lot and had never had any issues with car rental or damages but somehow weirdly the last two times that has changed, and also how can a rental company claim you made damages to their car 5 months after the fact?

Reply from SIXT Danmark
Sixt appear to have made it their business model to give you an old (40,000 km) car with un-repaired damages from previous rentals and then sticking it to you when (alledgedly) new, minor damage has been added to it upon return. Then they ghost you and do not respond to questions about the alleged damage.

I was waiting to write a review because I was hopeful Sixt would resolve the concerns from our rental in July. Unfortunately, not only are they not resolved, but they have now gone back on what they promised they would do.
We had a flat tire in Belgium, driving from Denmark to France. They got a tow truck who replaced the tire with a used one of a different size and said in France we would need a new car or two new front tires. For the next two and a half days we spent hours on the phone with Sixt Denmark saying Sixt France had to help and Sixt France saying Sixt Denmark had to help. While everyone was polite and understanding, there was no follow up. No support even when were told they would be available, and finally we had to go and have two new tires installed on the car to make it back to Denmark safely. We were told repeatedly we would be reimbursed for the tires.
Our rental ended July 14 and at drop off, we were told the car was fine and off we went, hopeful we would get the refund for the tires.
Within days we received notice that there was damage found after drop off that we were being charged for. Then emails back and forth about the tires, sending and resending the receipt. This week, they informed us they are not paying for the tires. Apparently we still owe for the damage though.
Despite paying extra since we were leaving the country, we received no support, and Sixt was completely okay with us driving on a used tire of a different size which we were told was unsafe to drive back to Denmark. Not only are we out more money, but they are claiming we still owe for damage we were informed of after our rental had been reviewed. The biggest concern is that Sixt was unconcerned with our safety, and driving on a used tire of a different size which we were told could not go far, was not a priority. We solved the problem on our own without their help, trusting we would be reimbursed for the tires as they had mentioned many times.
Do not use them if you prioritize safety, or for travelling between countries, because you will find yourself disappointed and out of pocket.

The 2nd star is for the car :)
Dreadfully expensive, slow (I spent almost as much time picking up and dropping off the car as I spent driving it!), and sold me a bridge toll that didn't work.
Want to recover the extra cost you had to pay? Sure, go through our HQ, it's a slow and complex process which will sap your will to live and discourage you from completing it.
Oh and we're going to hold onto your deposit for an extra week so we can play with the money.

I rented from this company thinking it was the cheapest option. Wrong!
At the pick up, the young attendant was very insistent that I take the extra insurance on top of the normal insurance. Of course, at the end of the rental, not only were the parking lots full with no employees in sight, but they claimed damages the next morning! Luckily, I took pictures.
Normally, Sixt is a good company, not my first time with them, but this particular branch seems to be badly led and doesn’t reflect the outstanding Danish values of trust and honesty.

I rented a car from Sixt at the end of March 2024, We arrived late into Copenhagen airport so had a collection at the airport through a collection box which worked well with our young family ready to visit family after much awaited trip
We used our car to transport us to our family 20 minutes out of the city and back to the airport at the end of our visit
We dropped our hire car off at the airport with ease, no member of the team were there to take charge so we left the keys in the lock box
I contacted Sixt about having paid additional charge per day for the satellite navigation - which was already built into the car with no response
I did however get a notice that the car was damaged, on looking at the garage report sent this states a leak from the tyre, an unhelpful response from the team was it is the customer responsibility to prove the damage wasn't done, without a pressure gage I am not sure how this can be done, but to note on return there were no pressure warnings on the car.
After no resolve I assumed that the matter is closed
August 2024 I'm sent an invoice with no note stating I have outstanding damages, in the email is attached photos of the wheel (not clear how a leak can be seen in a photo) I also note in the rental agreement it states damages to the wheel before my hire noted and a picture of the boot, I raised that this issue as far as I am concerned is closed as I have had no response from March, I have not had any correspondence to the charge of satellite navigation, I have offered in every response to have a phone conversation with still no resolve
I have also raised that I have paid the damage excess waver per day of the hire.
I feel Sixt should be contacting me to offer refund for the satellite navigation and apology for what has been distressing email exchanges.
I would have still all these false claims used Sixt again but can only advise stay away and use a more trusting company

I rented a car from SIXT during my stay in DK. On my way to Copenhagen from Aalborg, the "check engine" light came on and the brakes locked twice. This was very scary but fortunately, I was not close to any other vehicles. I was able to exit the highway and called numerous SIXT phone numbers for help. More than a two-hour ordeal ensued with back and forth with a rep in Aalborg who had to check everything with a manager. Often she did not call me back as I waited for answers. Since it was Sunday there were no offices open to bring out a replacement but I was told I could get on a train to go to Kastrup for the replacement. Cars break down on Sundays too!!! A train ride was not an option since I had 3 suitcases, flowers, plants, miscellaneous items, and we were only two people, my daughter and myself. A SIXT rep in Billund told me that they get a taxi for their customers to get to their final destination. I asked for a cab but was told no. At that point, I cancelled the contract with SIXT and I called a cab myself.
Very poor customer service from SIXT and I will NEVER rent a car from this company again!
