Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 77 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complained about terrible customer support, extremely long waiting times, and frustrating automated phone bots that made resolving issues nearly impossible. Many people also mentioned unexpected billing errors, unannounced monthly charges, and difficult contract terms. However, some reviewers were happy with the cheap pricing and affordable plans offered by the provider. A few individuals also pointed out that certain interactions with staff members provided genuinely helpful assistance. Despite these occasional bright spots, the overwhelming consensus remains deeply negative due to persistent communication failures and poor reliability.

security questions / process over the top, and they have some total breakdowns in their process based on the questions they ask ... you cant answer some as they are based on A WORKING SERVICE. also, i had their fibre broadband last two years, its drops a lot, never had that with spark and its apparently the same network? maybe the poor cousin access only ...

tried to get an inactive / faulty…

tried to get an inactive / faulty skinny SIM i have had for years swapped so I could setup a second mobile service, couple of phone calls, email, and facebook chat finally got some info .. called sim swap today at 1238h for 27 mins and got now where. your staff are not helping and actually argue in a passive aggressive way. i asked for a sup/manager and was told OK but never got a call back of course. stop with your ridiculous scripting 'i want to let you know what to expect etc', and the tone and sound of staff is even bad. i have been with skinny since 2012 and can confidently state you have got much worse of the years, i dont know if the call centre(s) were always offshore following computer driven processes etc but i will go some place else now. can you listen to the call and respond to me that this is the level of customer service skinny is happy with? i want to be able to use this information for friends and family when talking about skinny products and why i left going forward, thank you

NOTHING BUT A SCAM AND A LIE

NOTHING BUT A SCAM AND A LIE
This is for Skinny Pre-Pay mobile where one can choose WEEKLY/4 WEEKLY or YEARLY.
So I chose 4 weekly only to find out that it is 28 DAYS and not 4 Weeks,
So basically they have managed to suck me a extra 1 month from every year.
This makes it 56 WEEKS PER YEAR
False Advertising,

Absolutely shocking service

Shocking service. Do not use. Didn't pay me back after i moved even though i had a whole month i had paid for in advance. This company robs people of their money. Placed callbacks as long wait time to talk to someone and nobody called back even though i was told i was placed in a queue. Could only get answers by what seemed like a robot on messenger. I have never experienced such shocking service. I will never use Skinny ever again. Such an embarrassment for a NZ company. They need to reflect on the bad reviews and start upping their game although for me it is too late. I have lost all faith in this service provider.

Actually zero stars

If I could give Skinny zero stars I would as that’s how bad their customer service is. Their text based system just takes you round and round in circles without addressing the key issue with long wait times between responses and no consistent care in a single issue. Excruciating.

Internet hardly worked

Internet needed to be reset every 20 minutes. Help bots are no help. Chatlines don't help. Help pages don't answer specific questions. You wait for 45 minutes in hold. Help doesn't work. No responsibility. Hours wasted at my end. Left skinny but they kept charging me. Still waiting g for a refund and apology. Ironically I left due to their poor communication and problem solving. Now I'm still stuck waiting in hold and fed up.

Bad Customer service

We signed up on Friday 23/5/2025. Received a WELCOME letter, letting us know we would receive a new MODEM on Monday 26/5/2025. No modem has arrived, no updates, unable to TRACK+TRACE delivery progress at all. In the meantime, we have NO INTERNET at all and are unable to speak with anyone from CUSTOMER SERVICES.

We have made the decision to cut our losses and signed up with another provider! Hopefully, who have better CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Nice when you want to sign up not when you’re on board

It is weekend so can’t even try to be patience and be on the phone for 1.5 hours (that’s wait time when I last called them). I am working from home and need the connection working. It stopped working this morning, not even on cable. The FB messenger support finally responded and said power supply fault on the smart modem which they are aware of, will courier it in next 3-5 days. Yes just the power supply unit of the modem. What am I going to do with it? And what am I going to do when I lost connection? The offer is extra data on skinny mobile, if I have one. They obviously can check from my account if I have one or not. Absolutely non sense.

worse than sky tv

Update: 10th July 2025
Still not fully refunded. They tell me in Messenger what is going to be refunded, then refund a fraction of that amount.
Every time I Message a new person answers the message and want so the story.. "Read the F$%^ing thread".

So incompetent the word incompetentis too good for them.

First post: 13th May 2025
I was with skinny mobile for a few years and I never had any issues with the mobile service. I was on monthly pre-pay for 4 numbers, all coming off my one card. About 4 weeks ago I moved to another provider. An absolute incompotent nightmare trying to get the remaining funds in my accounts refunded. Customer service is so poor it is off the poor scale. They did end up refunding some money but it looks like they just guessed the amounts. Still more required. Still trying. I can't get throug on phone and messenger is poor as well.

Their customer service is almost…

Their customer service is almost non-existent. Zero assistance on both phone (on hold for 45minutes) and message system. Every provider is good until there is a service issue, that's when you get what you pay for. I will be changing providers after this, I don't recommend Skinny.

Atrocious customer service

Atrocious customer service. CSR asked all the necessary questions to identify the account owner and then asked questions which could only be answered if the service is working. Sought to escalate the call to a supervisor. Not possible. Requested a call back but no call received. Incident due to faulty Skinny supplied router, service unavailable. CSR unable to assist and unable to provide credit for service not available. Pleased I'm not a SPARK shareholder, will be walking, taking my home(s) and businesses elsewhere... That was $4k+ PA that they're losing...

Never Skinny

I left my previous flat in October last year. My former flat mate took over paying for the broadband in November. I'm still getting billed by Skinny. Emails are useless. The 800 number is lousy. Just excuses why I can't have my money back. No store like Spark, or 2 degrees where you can go to fix a problem. They are absolute rubbish. Use them if you're a masochist.

DISMAL PERFORMANCE AT BEST

Dis-interested Skinny employee leaves me waiting on the phone for 17 minutes mostly spent in silence as she ate or slept, no phone , demand to speak to a manager and 40 mins later another dis interested moronic Skinny employee takes another 45 minutes of my life and finally phone top up accepted. It was evident from the start that they had no interest in helping a customer in fact the so called verification codes that they were to send to my phone, never happened and so the circus could continue. I must add, they called me on the number they claimed they had sent the code to....they never sent a code or emailed a code to me. This is more about entrapping us with bait behaviour, in other words doing nothing to help knowing that for us to hang up means another 45 minute wait to speak to another moron. Three and a half hours later and most of that time was spent in silence while the employee put the phone on speaker and my melt down was enjoyed by the other moronic employees of this useless company. Seems you get trolled when you put up a review that they don't like. Stay away from this company, they are not for New Zealand.

Plan cancelled after one missed payment

Skinny cancelled my plan because I missed one payment. No contact from the company or attempt to retry the payment. I added credit to my account via top up but was unable to add a plan to my mobile due to a website issue. The credit was then used almost instantly due to the price to use Skinny without a plan.
