I have bought 2 pairs of loafers from Skolyx. The shoes are of great quality and look great, however, the sizes are drastically different. I bought the same size loafers and it look more than a size different from each other despite being the same size.

I exchanged a pair, and the cost of return shipping + double the import tax is roughly the cost of the shoes. Simply a hefty fine, and I have no trust in their sizing, which is very disappointing. Such a shame because I would have loved to have bought more shoe from them in the future...

After response from Skolyx below my review is still the same. It is not listed anywhere upon checkout about extra charges. If they included this information upfront I would understand, and potentially not purchase based off added costs. Be upfront and do not hide these policies on other Q&A pages. Simple as that.

There are plenty of great companies out there that include the final price upon checkout. Regardless of who is charging them. Clearly Skolyx is not one of them.

Since the US government introduced duty and several different import fees the customs handling has become a lot more complicated.

It’s also standard all over the world that if you live outside EU you need to pay local fees upon import, either to the carrier or to the selling company, so the price would be the same in total only difference is who charges it

Some companies have included custom and fees in the charges. Some (like us) declare clearly that we deduct 25% Swedish vat and don’t charge any us fees to you, instead these come to you on a invoice from the carrier.
This is very clearly stated in our site very clear in the terms and condition which you approved when purchasing and not something we try to hide, it would not benefit anyone.

It’s been quite hard since the US customs have had new rules almost every other week during 2025, but as soon as it becomes more stable we will see what our customers prefer the most.

We do have the best prices available either way though, feel free to reach out if you can find same products at better price and we will do a price match for you.

Support is useless

Support is useless. Wanting to order a size as their size guide is really whacky. It scales in a strange way, sometimes within a style, depending on your size, it will either be true to size, half a size small, half a size big or a full size too large.

I contacted support to verify. I provided a reference for my current Suitsupply dress shoes as well as what I wear in Nike.

I’m a size 12 in every shoe I own. Support told me that Nike’s size varies too wildly (I doesn’t, I’ve had 40 pairs of various models and always been a 12) and that they weren’t familiar with suit supple sizing and instead provided me with some obscure, hand made Italians brands that if they knew my size in them they could help me.

To not be able to give support in sizing for expensive dress shoes is insane. Especially when they want you to pay a return shipping fee if they don’t fit.

Get better at customer care.

Sizing can be a bit tricky, and the thing with Nike / Suit Supply and similar brands that mass produce a lot of their shoes in China / Asia is that they doesnt always follow international standards when it comes to sizing. Thats why its really good to cross-check with feet length as well, that usually gives us a 99% rate when it comes to determine the correct size.

Thats why we tried to ask you for your feet length as well, but without that we can only give general guidance based on your other shoes. So in this case its to go for 12 in our Belgian loafers to.

For even further better advice please get back to us in the support thread we have with the feet length.
This is only to be able to give you best possible support and help you avoid the need for returns, but its hard if you dont supply the feet length.

Awesome

Awesome is the word here! Fantastic service and support. Super friendly without any hassle! And all this although I did not end up buying anything because the last of the loafers weren‘t meant to be my fit. Super well made shoes as far as I can say in my experience.

If you live in Switzerland, READ THIS

I live in Switzerland. Skolyx courier of choice, and you can't change it, is FedEx. You'll obviously have to pay the VAT 8.1% of Switzerland. But the problem comes when FedEx pays it for you and charges you a disbursement fee.
For you to have any idea:
- Switzerland VAT 8.1% = CHF 1.80
- Original VAT = CHF 15,70
- Disbursement Fee (From FedEx) = CHF 22,00

It's unbelievable the amount you have to pay to FedEx. Last time I'm ordering anything from Skolyx. And obviously Skolyx doesn't give a __ to these type of charges. They just remove the VAT in their home country and ship it. The rest you have to deal with.

One solution would be to at least let the customer choose between FedEx or DHL. DHL is normally cheaper and normally doesn’t have these shenanigans of FedEx.

You mentioned that DHL is twice as expensive as FedEx. Here is the analysis:
• Shipping cost to Switzerland on your website (FedEx): 17 EUR
• Shipping cost with DHL (based on your comment): 34 EUR (100% more according to you)
• Disbursement fee charged by FedEx (****which I was never informed about and never requested****): 22 EUR
• Total cost with FedEx: 39 EUR

Based on this, DHL is actually cheaper than FedEx. Also, I strongly dislike receiving unexpected bills at home.

Please make sure to inform yourselves and your customers more clearly about these hidden fees — especially the additional charges imposed by FedEx.

Hi Afonso,
For orders from outside EU (except UK and Norway where we include all custom fees) we deduct 25% swedish vat. Upon arrival the local custom charges this fee through the carrier (In this case FedEx). An alternative is for us to add this costs directly upon ordering and include those in the prices directly, that would leave the upcharge to the same as you payed FedEx. We have done surveys where customers prefer the current solution in Switzerland, but we will of course take your feedback to us to see how we can improve and simplify the process if needed in future.

We will look into the DHL Express option to, the cost for shipping with DHL right now is around 80-100% higher than FedEx though, so it will be more expensive than FedEx, but we will of course look into it if customer request it.
We keep adding carriers all the time based on customer feedback.

Addition: Even if DHL is more expensive to ship, they usually also charge a administration fee, so you cant calculate with 0 there.

I can also just clarify that you did not pay any shipping cost on your order, it was free since you ordered for over 120€.

Amazing support Magnificent product

I like the experience I have got in the support, they helped me to chose the right size of boots. It was not easy but I am very thankful them for that. If you want to customize your own shoes, for example make a model with a different sole or leather than we have as a regular stock model that is possible to order from us.

Since this is a customized order you can reach out to us and discuss the details both before and/or after the payment is done. This is standard procedure for MTO / Made To Order for goodyear welted shoes.

The shoes are excellent!

The shoes are excellent!

I ordered the chelsea boots in dark brown. The welt stitching and last stitching are very good. I saw no loose threads. The boots fit well once you get your size dialed in. The leather is very supple and almost no imperfections were apparent to my eyes.

The city rubber soles were the big attraction here. It's very difficult to find a made in western Europe or USA good year welted shoe with rubber soles that aren't lugs or otherwise very heavy and bulky. The leather quality and general attention to detail is far in excess of US brand Allen Edmonds, my general benchmark for entry level goodyear welted dress shoes.

I noticed a few small dye imperfections around the lip of the shoe. We're talking nearly microscopic. A few stiches were thrown in the toe welt of one boot that are slightly out of center. Some heel wheeling or fudge wheeling would help bring a little flair to the boots, but they are otherwise straightforward and beautiful.

Customer service at Skolyx was top notch in that they got back to me quickly and they were very fluent in English. My only knock against the experience was a return for a different size: Skolyx offers shipping labels, but they weren't very clear on exactly where to find them on their website which ended up costing me around $100 US in shipping and another $30 US in customs handling charges to get an exchange. I am told they are working on a new website and a better return process which is great to hear! Customer service was very helpful throughout the process, but a little extra attention on the return would have saved me money and their team some aggravation, I'm sure.

As far as I'm concerned, if you live in a wet climate and want your footwear to be as water resistant while remaining beautiful as possible, there isn't a replacement for Skolyx. Now that I have the hang of the sizing and the return process, I'll be a return customer again and again.

Horrible customer service and no shame…

Horrible customer service and no shame in sending out defective sneakers. I bought a pair of sneakers with multiple defects. The response I received was a discount or I could pay $37 to return them. For an item that was received defective, I have to pay $37 to return?
This is a disgraceful business practice.

Bad Service from Skolyx and Poor Quality Yanko Belgian Loafers Skolyx Sold

I purchased Yanko Belgian Loafers from Skolyx and, after wearing them outside for the first time, the outer layer of the leather peeled off when one of the pair of shoes came into slight contact with the brake pedal on my car. I have never had the leather of any shoes peel off. I wonder if these were made of bonded leather or some inferior quality leather. I understand that they were not expensive shoes, but I expected they would hold up better. I do not believe that polishing the affected area will be capable of restoring the appearance of the shoes. Upon being advised of this issue, Skolyx simply advised that this type of issue can occur with deerskin shoes, and I should consult a cobbler (at my expense) to have the shoe repaired. Skolyx seems to overlook the fact that, if these shoes are so delicate that the leather peels off on slight contact with another surface, this problem would occur again.

I am accustomed to buying only high-quality shoes from merchants who want customers to be happy. I have never had a similar experience with a United States, United Kingdom, or the Italian merchants from whom I have purchased other shoes.

We are sorry to hear about the issue with the leather getting a mark while getting hit with your break pedal.

Like all other us/eu/uk merchants we take full responsibility for original faults, but for external damage caused by the customer, this is like most other areas not covered by the warranty.

Like we explained in our communication with you different leather have different charisteristics, and while deerskin is a very soft and comfortable leather its also means it can in certain cases be a bit less strong for external force/damage.

We still advice you to check with a cobbler, its usually not very hard to fix these kind of things without having any major impact on astethics or lifespan of the shoes.

We really hope a cobbler Will help you so you get lots of more use and joy of the shoes, as stated we would love to help in all cases, but external damage is unfortunately hard to cover.

A solid and quality-centric company, both in terms of their products (I’ve made two purchases of their ‘Traveler’ loafer thus far) and their astoundingly responsive customer service.
