When we took out insurance with these…

When we took out insurance with these thieves they were called Sky insurance, seems that they are now Safely insured, probably due to all of the negative reviews,, my daughter insured her first car with them and after 8 months they proceeded to issue a 7 day cancellation warning for exceeding mileage, there was no prior warning but lo and behold when you phone them every thing can be put right for a £167 fee to buy extra mileage, just before the end of her term with them they done exactly the same thing and told her that she would not receive her one year no claims bonus unless she paid the £167 again, this was 2 weeks before her policy was due to end, I will now seek advice from a solicitor to find if such disgusting behaviour is legal, I'm guessing being that they are an insurance company it is, as it seems with these sharks anything is acceptable, if you get a quote from these thieves do yourself a favour and go with someone else as you will end up paying more anyway.

No NCB received after 4 weeks of cancelling

Sky insurance gave me a ridiculous renewal so I shopped around and got cheaper anyway on to canceling the insurance was fine but when it come to receiveing my NCB they sent me the wrong amount of years out which only took 5 days to receive so now at this point my new insurance was waiting on the NCB as sky insurance made a mistake now after ringing sky and telling them they said they will get it sorted and get me the actual years sent out to me after waiting over a week I rang them about it because I'd not received it yet and they kept blaming this on covid and back log so I was reasonable but then 2 weeks later still received nothing so after loads of back and forth with them and by this time it'd been over 3 weeks and I've still not received my NCB after phone call after phone call they just kept telling me the same thing and still NCB received which has now gave me a cancellation on my new insurance and my premiums will more then likely go up after this I would advise people to be very carful as this could be you I will no longer be using sky insurance again and I will make sure people I know will avoid these as well

Sorry to hear this. If you've paid, bought a policy, but no documents have come through, then it's likely that the issue is a simple one - wrong email address inputted, or the documents may have ended up in a 'junk' folder. It will not be a 'scam'.

The best course of action in this situation is to call us. That way, we can simply re-issue documents or find out what happened and rectify from there.

We insured our son with this company…

We insured our son with this company yesterday on compare the market . We called to validate the insurance this morning and when asked about modifications we said there was mini spoiler but we can take that off if need be as it was only cosmetic. They said they would need to cancel the policy outright and charge us a £60 cancellation fee !!! This surely is a scam or if not a scam a very unethical way of increasing their revenue. Cancelling policies must be a lucrative practice.

We're sorry to hear this.

When a policy is bought online, there is a clear requirement during the quote process for the customer to confirm whether the car is modified or not. On top of this, the customer must also agree to answer all questions accurately, or run the risk of policy complications.

The reason these questions are asked is to ensure you're being placed with the right insurer and the right policy. If you fail to do this, you may end up buying an unsuitable policy (as is the case here). A policy that the insurer would otherwise not have made available to you.

Sadly, and even if it may see trivial, in these situations the policy must indeed be cancelled. This instruction is issued by the insurer, not us, the broker.

We can confirm that this is not in any way a scam, and it is certainly not in our interest to be cancelling policies.

BE WARNED

BE WARNED. For some reason my renewal documents were sent to me under a different email alias. Because of this I missed them and didn't see the terms of business; if you cancel early they'll reclaim their commission from you. I had paid 1/3 of my policy so far and owed THEM money when I cancelled after just over 1 month. They also charge a £50 admin fee for this.

Think carefully about using Sky Insurance if there's a chance you'll cancel your policy early.

Edit: Interesting to see Sky Insurance lie further down in their replies here.

This is simply UNTRUE. esure for example charge a flat £35 cancellation fee and will refund any amount owed on a pro-rata basis. Plus other insurers do not claim their commission back from YOU if you cancel.

Regarding your cancellation and refund, without looking at your policy specifically we cannot provide a full breakdown of costs. However, it sounds like you were paying your premium over instalments, and in this instance we retain our fees from the pro-rata refund that is issued if the policy is cancelled. This can sometimes mean that there is a ‘shortfall’ to pay.

With respect to our comment concerning our cancellation costs, we stand by it but would also like to provide some clarification. We are not an insurance company but an insurance brokerage. We charge commission for policies that we arrange, and like most brokerages, our commission and fees are deemed fully earnt if the policy is cancelled. These costs are comparable to similar brokerages.

Finally, it is indeed very odd that your documents were sent to you under a different email alias; we would certainly like to investigate this and report back, so would appreciate it if you could get in touch about this. It is worth pointing out that the terms and conditions in the renewal pack are highly likely to be the same as when the policy was first incepted. When a policy is incepted, we verbally disclose these terms, including all cancellations costs, and we ask the customer to confirm that they have understood and agree to the terms. We then send this information by email/post and offer a 14 day ‘cooling off’ period.

Would never use!

Would never use!

When leaving they messed up the NCD I had accumulated on my policy and subsequently due to their error I was charged £50 in admin fees with my new insurer due to submitting incorrect NCD initially. I would avoid completely, they lure you with cheap 1st costs then hike the price despite no accidents/penalties or change in policy then you struggle to get your NCD from them.

I would 100% avoid this company

I would 100% avoid this company!

I took out insurance in October and paid £450 upfront. My first payment of £200 was taken in December.. which is fine.

I was then contacted about my car being away from my home address more than 2 days a week. But when I took out the policy nobody told me I had to stay at home so many days a week. I called and queried this and I was told ‘if you’re staying away from home more than 2 days you need to call and tell us’ this made me feel like I was constantly watched and like I needed to ask ‘permission’ from my parents to stay away from home.

As a first time driver, all of this should have been explained. It was very confusing and the agents I spoke to were very unhelpful, rude and judgemental.

You constantly receive threatening emails advising ‘if you don’t send this we will cancel your policy, if you don’t do that we will cancel your policy’

I was unable to add the second address to my policy as it was too much of a ‘high risk’ area which is bull****.

So I had no choice but to cancel! Expecting some sort of refund seen as I had paid £650 over a month and a half. But instead I have to pay £160 to cancel?!!!

I sent in my cancellation via email and had no response. I then contacted a day after to find out they had not received my email so I had to send it again!!

If you want to be constantly watched and tracked then go with this company.

But if you want to feel like a normal human, with nobody to answer to, and you want to feel freedom while driving then AVOID THIS SCAM COMPANY!!

Absolute nightmare!!

We’re sorry for the delay in replying, and to hear that you’re unhappy.

We’d like to provide some clarification on our telematics policy terms to try and address your concerns.

Firstly, we do not expect you to keep the car at the registered address for every day of the policy; we appreciate there may be some occasions where this is not possible. Bearing this in mind, we will only contact you to discuss where the vehicle is being kept if our data shows that the vehicle is away from the address you’ve given us for the majority of the time. Two nights a week would not constitute as the majority, and as a result we can only assume that the vehicle was away from the home address more often than this.

One of the reasons that the address criteria is important is because the postcode that the vehicle is kept at is one of many factors that your underwriters will use to form a premium. As all postcodes are rated differently, your premium may be adjusted during the policy year if the main address were to change, or a secondary address was added. As a broker, we are unable to guarantee all changes made to a policy will be accepted, and on this occasion your insurers were unable to cover the secondary address and the policy was subsequently cancelled.

We do understand that multiple addresses can happen, so we do explain, both in the sales call when you arrange the policy, and in documentation afterwards, that we will monitor the car’s location and if the vehicle is kept away from the home address for the majority of the time that we will contact you to intervene. Importantly, we do ask you to confirm that you have understood this before allowing you to purchase the policy.

Upon cancellation of the policy, the refund of premium from the insurers is calculated on a pro-rata basis. We will then retain our fees from this figure. The cost of the telematics device is also non-refundable after it has been fitted. Without looking at your file specifically we are unable to give you a full breakdown of your cancellation costs, but we do hope that this reply goes some way to explain why the total refund from your policy was not enough to settle your outstanding balance with the finance company and why a difference would be owed.

Please note, that the practises mentioned regarding the telematics location and cancellation costs are not unique to Sky Insurance, and that other brokers/insurers will likely adopt a similar approach.

Luke was very helpful

Luke was very helpful with insuring my two modified cars. Very helpful and communicative and felt like I was talking to a like minded car guy. He offered advice on my policy and was very patient. If Luke is any indication as to my experience with Sky this year it should be a good one.

Massive cancellation charges

The price for cover on my modified vehicle was good, but on having to cancel the policy they will charge massive fees. My £560 policy was cancelled after 4 months and I only received £210 back - and they wont re-imburse it for 4-6 weeks! Only use if you are sure you wont have to cancel. I will use the usual providers in future.

Our Terms of Business are disclosed on the phone at the point of sale, including what will happen if you cancel the contract early and what our cancellation charges will be. During this phone call, we will ask you to confirm that you have understood and agree to these terms. In addition to this, we will send our Terms of Business Agreement to you by email or post.

We would like to stress that our cancellation charges are commensurate with other insurance providers.

Regarding the length of time it takes for the refund to be received, this is the worst case scenario. As a broker, we do not hold the premium that was paid, and therefore must wait for the insurer to process the refund to us. In most instances, the refund is received by the customer before the 4-6 week period.

An amazing service and the individual that dealt with me from initial quote, adjusting the policy and clearing an issue up for me was amazing. Luke went the extra mile to make sure I wasn't stressed as we encountered a problem that he resolved. He always treated with respect regardless of the amount of phone calls we had.

Modified Car Insurance - Brokerage Done Right

Insurance brokerage done right. Having worked in insurance for other competitor brokers for a number of years, I'm aware of the pitfalls and benefits of insuring via a broker - well what can I say all the pitfalls don't apply with Sky Insurance, from quote to cover in under 24 hours with a policy that suits my needs for my modified vehicle at a cracking price. Huge thank you to Luke for his perseverance in getting the best quote for me with a great insurer - the price is right great but the customer service made this a great experience. Thanks.

A huge thumbs up to the team at Sky…

A huge thumbs up to the team at Sky Insurance. Friendly, fast, knowledgeable customer service - every time I’ve called. They’ve always been the most reasonably priced too, it’s very much worth shopping around and giving Sky Insurance a call, I usually speak to Luke, who has a lot of knowledge and is great about coming back to me quickly with a great quote to get my vehicles insured and covered to my needs.
The team are great with modifications, changing any details like private number plate transfers, changes to your home address, explaining no claims bonus status, swapping insurance car to car over, anything and everything doesn’t ever seem hard work, they’re always happy to help and ensure I’m covered quickly. Can’t recommend enough, I’ve recommended to all my family and friends who also are very happy with their lower premiums and great customer service.
Thanks again to all at Sky, for keeping the same high standards throughout a pandemic and even with team working from home, thank you. My car Insurance’s haven’t been something I’ve had to worry about this year of 2020!

We don't insure Diesel automatics any more

Great no pressure experience

Always a pleasure to talk to Luke at sky insurance on the phone, no pressure sales environment, they do their best to get you a competitive quote and let you know what it is, after that its up to you to decide! Happy for you to get other quotes as well before deciding, although often they have the best-priced quote anyway and combined with not being pushy overall makes for a great experience.
