Scammers! Claimed to be picking up from our usual company, even had the audacity to say that people were going around claiming to work for them and just taking the scrap. Then quickly left leaving £40 in an envelope for what we would usually get about £300 for. Then wouldnt answer any calls or messages. Avoid at all costs.

Stay well clear. The company seems to be a couple of con artists, a husband and wife duo, I believe. The man's name is Liam Donellan and his photo is on the Smart Refining website. They scammed us last year by posing as colleagues of our usual waste crown refiner. It was only after my receptionist handed me the meagre amount they paid for my gold crowns that I realised something was wrong. I called our regular company, who confirmed they hadn’t visited our practice and weren’t scheduled to do so for another month. Upon reviewing the unbranded receipt left by these fraudsters, it was clear I had been scammed. They had also swapped the labels on the waste crowns storage pots for their own Smart Refining branded labels

They nearly pulled off the same trick this week. This time, his female partner in crime called the practice, claiming she had been asked to contact us by our usual refining company to let us know they would be calling in to pick up the waste crowns. My receptionist agreed, but when she mentioned it to me, I decided to call our refiner using his private number for confirmation. He informed me that he hadn’t asked anyone to contact our practice on his behalf.

We allowed Liam Donnellan to enter our premises for the sole purpose of capturing CCTV footage which we have forwarded to our legitimate waste crown refiner. We also signed a statement of truth with their solicitors, which can be used in court. Hopefully, this will help put a stop to these crooks. There is no place for these kind of cowboys in a professional industry like dentistry.
