We have been using the gates now for about 4 months and we love it. They are easy to open and just as easy to close. I like it that the littlest of the littles cannot open it though.

Fantastic with one flaw
This gate is fantastic and has held up well. I like that I can set it up with extra hooks. At the top of my stairs I have a triangle of hook points, so I can block off the stairs, or the hallway, or both at the same time to isolate the living/dining/kitchen area. Being able to swap the base of the gate to any hook gives great flexibility. The lock works well and is easy to operate.
The only negative, and it is terrible, is the screws that are included for installation. DO NOT USE THE SCREWS! Buy other alternatives. The screws are garbage. I broke 3 screws installing my gate into pre-drilled holes before I quit and grabbed some alternatives that I had on hand. Full disclosure: I was installing into solid oak which requires a bit of extra torque. For the minimal cost of some decent screws, I still recommend throwing out the originals and using replacements. You don't want your gate to fall off the wall when it gets pushed into.

We’re sorry that you’re having some trouble with the hardware, and we’d like to help. The hardware we include with the gate is high quality and will usually never fail unless certain issues or conditions occur during installation, which I’ll touch on the most common of those issues next. Oak is a very hard wood, which can be difficult to drive screws into. If the pilot holes are not drilled deeply enough or wide enough, there can be problems with installing them correctly. Also, if you were drilling into a banister post, you may have hit the bracket securing it to your floor. Additionally, using a power drill as a screw driver can also put too much torque on the screws, causing them to break. Be sure to only drive them with a hand screw driver and make sure the pilot hole is at least as deep as the screw is long and is of the proper diameter according to the user instructions and type of material you are attaching to.

When installed correctly is very nice, tight and secure. I purchased the extra hardware to put the gate either at the top of the stairs at the landing or at the beginning of the hallway leading to the stairs downstairs. Easy to move.

A good system
The smart retract gate is a good system for keeping children and pets out of unwanted areas. Once it is installed you can activate it quickly and easily. While nothing is foolproof to a talented fool, this gate does better than most at keeping things on their respective sides.
Do keep in mind that it comes with the hardware to be mounted into studs, so if you aren't sure if there are studs in your mounting area, or if you're putting it in a place that will have two closing options, be sure to order the appropriate accessories up front. The drywall kit only has 2 screws in it so be sure to order the right number. Also, if you have thick or fancy trim you might need to order a spacer kit or two.

After doing considerable research…
After doing considerable research regarding different types of gates and would work best in our less than ideal space, I decided to give this a try. I have to admit I was a bit nervous that it could stand up to a room full of toddlers, but it definitely has! I needed to hang at an angle and it was simple - the gate itself is easy to remove and store if needed, too. It's much stronger and durable than I originally thought and would definitely recommend to others.

Won’t use another gate again
Brilliant gate- we have two and wouldn’t use a different kind again. Easy to use with one hand when carrying a baby, and retracts away so that when you aren’t using it doesn’t get in the way.

We love the Smart Retract gates and…
We love the Smart Retract gates and don’t hesitate to recommend them. We own two and put them in strategic areas to corral our dogs. They were easy to install and open and close smoothly. I also like the sheerness of the gate which allows us and the dogs to keep an eye on each other.

I'm so happy with these gates
I'm so happy with these gates! they're so easy to use and I love that they're unobtrusive when not in use. I got two for the top of staircases. It took a few tries to figure out how to do it one handed, but I have it down now. The downside is my guests get stuck
