Spacers are important to use so you can open/close properly easily as well as take if off the hooks to move it to another place. We learned the hardway. It is because of the trim.

These work great
These work great. I needed to connect two of them to cover a large space. Keeps my dogs and baby separated. Only thing is, by connecting the two, opening and closing them cannot be done one handed.

Do not buy
It was a pain to install. The instructions say there are video instructions online & that is a lie. I had to order special spacers from them when I realized that my install attempt failed. The spacers should have been included in the first place!!!!! Very frustrating.
Then, after ordering them, paying extra and even more shipping, they showed up. I spent another 20 minutes re-installing them. It looked great. Thought to myself, well, at least it’s worth it to keep my kittens from going downstairs. I closed the gate and went downstairs. 2 minutes later my kittens are downstairs meowing at me. They went right UNDER the gate. Like the gate wasn’t even there. Worthless. It was a pain, it was a waste of time and it was a waste of money.
One star is too generous a review.

Simply does what it is supposed to do, well.
Should sell additional pairs of wall catches so a single Smart Retract can close off several different areas. I used standard metal hooks to do this here.

This gate was the perfect solution for keeping dogs on ground level.
This gate was the perfect solution for keeping the dogs from going upstairs. You can open with one hand which is perfect when I am carrying an item upstairs. We left the gate just a bit above the floor to allow the cats easy get away if being followed by a dog. I would definitely buy again.
