Incompetent scammers. Will damage your property

This is a zero star review. Avoid this company at all costs. Speedyjet caused thousand of pounds of damage to our property and charged thousands to unsuccessfully unblock a toilet.

I called Speedyjet to unblock a toilet and to carry out a CCTV survey in a residential flat in NW London. They had availability to attend the same day and the individual I spoke to in the office seemed professional enough. Speedyjet attended and attempted to unblock the toilet using rodding but this was unsuccessful. The CCTV survey was also unsuccessful. Total cost of this visit: GBP 208. I was told by the plumber (Peter) that they’d need to re-attend, remove the toilet (which I was informed was not a ’standard’ toilet and may need to be 'smashed off' and a new basic toilet placed there instead), re-do the CCTV survey and carry out jetting. I was told a plumber would need to attend to remove the toilet and 2 separate engineers would be needed to do the CCTV and the jetting. Other than the point about smashing off the toilet which I found bizarre, I was not hugely concerned at this point. I spoke to the company that installed the toilet and they told me that because of the design of the toilet, the bolt to remove the toilet is concealed and all that was needed was a long allen key to remove it. Speedyjet returned to the property and apparently spent 4 hours carrying out the work described above. The total bill for this was over GBP 1600 due to the number of people on site and them charging per half hour. I was told this needed to be paid the same day. Without my authorisation, Speedyjet attempted to deduct the full amount from my credit card but this bounced. The toilet was still not unblocked and I was told there was a blockage in the elbow of the soil pipe. They would need to return and recommended sawing through the soil pipe and using ‘mechanical coring’ to access the blockage. Total cost of this visit: GBP 450. Again, this was unsuccessful in removing the blockage. As they did not refit the soil pipe properly (after sawing through it), it came loose a week after they attended and caused sewage to spurt out of the pipe, into open windows (including onto a baby cot) and all down the rear of the property. This has subsequently cost almost GBP 1600 to fix (not including cleaning costs). I now understand that mechanical coring simply means drilling a hole in a pipe - again after drilling this hole, it was not repaired and this caused a leak into the commercial premises below. The rodding mentioned above has caused a crack in a further section of pipe which again has had to be repaired.

All this to say, this company is dangerous and totally incompetent. They have caused us thousands of pounds of damage in addition to the thousands we paid them to achieve nothing. Once we realised they were scammers, we had to start again with a new drainage company and re-do everything as the information provided by Speedyjet was imprecise and unreliable. They did not supply reports, as promised. The main plumber is ‘Peter’ - he was aggressive and rude threatening debt collectors unless I paid all of the outstanding bills immediately.

Steer clear !

I called them in August because the website looks good. Don’t be fooled by the website! They came as we had no hot water, identified the diverter valve was faulty, and quoted me £400 + VAT to change it. Total including call out was £600. To cut a long story short, they finished the job after changing a second part, total cost £800 (heating seemed to be working). However later when we came to switch the heating on properly, no heating.

By this time I had boiler insurance so their engineer came out, and identified the problem again to be the diverter valve. So since the new valve would still be under warranty, I called back SJP.

That was 2 weeks ago and they have not been back. Every day we have called, and usually get told ‘someone will be out tomorrow’, then no one comes, so the following day we phone again, get told ‘tomorrow’. Meanwhile it’s now 18th November and we have hot water but no heating.
STEER CLEAR OF THEM.
What I should have done, get someone who is a member of the Institute of Plumbing or some professional body, so they have to act decently.

Extortionately overcharged...Scammed

We have a small 15 inch drain outside the kitchen for a rental property, that was blocked. Organising the booking was fine and thinking that its a small job and shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to clear with a High Pressure Water Jet for which they charge £75 per half hour. Their service engineer got to our premises by about 10.00am and spent the next 30 minutes looking for an outdoor water supply to refill his machine, since his machine had run out of water. He eventually had to connect to the kitchen sink supply and then asked how long does he think it might take to clear the drain and he said about 30 minutes. I confirmed what the charges will be. He said £150 plus the VAT for the complete job. I was not happy about this, since he had already spent 30 minutes looking for the supply! Wanting to just get the job done, I reluctantly agreed. I had to go onto a meeting and left him with the tenant in the flat. I specifically told the engineer to call me for the payment after he completed the job and I expect that’s what you would do under normal circumstances…ask for the payment for the job from the person who made the booking.

I received a call from their office at 11.01am saying that job had over run by 30 minutes, so it’s going to be £150 plus the VAT. I responded saying that’s fine. I was expecting him to ask for my card number, but he put the phone down. I waited for a call back, but nothing. I called the tenant after the meeting which finished at 1pm, to see what was going on. The tenant to my shock and disbelief informed me that he had to pay £360.00 by his card. I asked him why did he pay, when I specifically asked the engineer in front of him to call me for the payment, once the job had been done. This tenant struggles to speak and understand English, so I’m not sure how and why he had to pay.

Anyway, I think I should have only be charged £150+ VAT for the job, but was charged double.
